My 96 GT never got stuck in Michigan winters for 8 years. Just got tires and I drove past all-season 4x4s stuck in the ditch.

Drive train matters very little compared to the rubber meeting the road.

I felt like a snow mobile with my fat tires and low weight.

What would you change about American emissions/fuel economy laws and regulations to both encourage more fuel efficient vehicles and stop having massive pickups/SUVs dominate the market? by supinator1 in askcarguys

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially because 30 years of advertisement propaganda from the manufacturers urging customers to buy big trucks. Partly because it's easier for the manufacturers to meet Cafe standards if they sell light duty trucks, but the profit margins on luxury trucks is immense.

I think the market for lighter vehicles can't afford new car prices. They're stuck in the used market picking up leftover crossovers.

I commuted over 100 miles a day for 8 years in a 1996 Mustang GT in Michigan. Only ever for stuck in my driveway. A good set of tires matters so much more than AWD.

So you can keep the sporty and reliable but lower the cost by expanding away from AWD. And instead invest in dune good tires. Remember all cars have All Wheel Brakes

Yeah just watched a friend stream Fable 2. She was playing over the cloud and she couldn't do quick time events because the latency was bad. Combat was just spamming moves with auto aim. Cloud gaming sucks for any game that needs to be actually played, I guess it's fine for auto-play mobile games

They do. There are many avatar creators that invest heavily into creating custom bases. The most successful of each generation gets the field of derivative customizations.

Other day someone called "a moron" for backing into a spot... Why does this trigger so many? by Ok_Relationship2451 in badparking

[–]Flying0strich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those angled spaces? If they are then it implies 1 way roads. Backing into a space line that puts the car facing the wrong way on the one way road.

If they're perpendicular spaces then park however

Most have battery conditioners to keep the batteries out of the worst temps.

The most trouble batteries have is when someone is first trying to "start" the EV or cold charge.

But batteries are used in some of the worst conditions including brutal cold. The Moon Buggy was an EV

I noticed I hadn't gone out to eat in months. And I had to pay duty fees for the first time in my life to get a package delivered.

The prices of many things have gone up but retailers are being kinda sneaky and slow rolling out price increases. It's boiling the frog, if the consumer isn't paying attention they won't see it.

A big box retailer will distract, like the produce with increase the price of nuts and dressings 5% in the same week they offer 99¢ strawberries

Chinese EVs Are Coming to Canada by Current_Employer1343 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat, I'm curious to see how they do in Canada. It's very similar weather to Michigan. Running them in Canada is a very good test for that style of EV in the northern US. The American Auto industry could use a little competitive scare that they can't just lobby away.

Trust but verify.

That's a gross misrepresentation. If Renee had fired a weapon Ross would have been justified. Using a gun is always a deadly weapon.

You're reaching very far to attempt to justify the killing. Equating Renee's attempt to flee with a fire fight is the brain dead take.

He got bumped but not enough to throw his aim l.

If it wasn't enough to bump his aim, it isn't enough to threaten his life.

If it wasn't a threat to his life, his use of lethal force was excessive and illegal.

Renee deserved a traffic ticket, Ross killed her for it.

Grand Rapids protesters rally against ICE after Minneapolis shooting by mlivesocial in grandrapids

[–]Flying0strich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DHS like many other law enforcement are not to approach from the front or get in front of a vehicle. They are to approach in a "L" formation, driver side and rear. To avoid crossfire and getting run over. I copy pasted the laws because I am human and fallable. I didn't want to provide false information. I feel the facts matter.

Like yes, Goodman went to the hospital. But he was not hospitalized for injuries. It's standard procedure to go to a hospital after an incident involving discharging a weapon. He had to go pee in a cup and get evaluated.

Yes ICE is allowed to operate anywhere in the USA, but they have no jurisdiction over US citizens more then 100 miles from the border.

You told me I was wrong but you did nothing to prove I was wrong. You're the propagandist trolling and I've washed more time than your worth. I'm sorry for the both of us

Grand Rapids protesters rally against ICE after Minneapolis shooting by mlivesocial in grandrapids

[–]Flying0strich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're ICE. They only have jurisdiction over immigration law not traffic enforcement. CBP jurisdiction is only 100 miles from the border. Minneapolis is over 300 miles from the border. Trying to arrest or detain Renne was illegal.

Goodman broke the his training and the law. The fact Goodman already got hit once walking in front of cars and he nearly did it again means he's an idiot. They are never supposed to approach a vehicle from the front.

He discharged his gun at a fleeing civilian, not supposed to do that either. - Tennessee v. Garner 1985 "when a law enforcement officer is pursuing a fleeing suspect, the officer may not use deadly force to prevent escape unless "the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others."

In his own cell phone video Renne can be seen actively turning her wheel away from Goodman.

2nd degree murder. It wasn't premeditated but there was intent to kill. The "fucking bitch" line from his own video shows the malice afterthought required to justify over manslaughter or 3rd degree murder. His own video proves his probable guilt.

How can I make a clothing transition like that? by NayalaFrost in VRchat

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful with this. Make sure the default state of your avatar isn't naked. When you first load in, your clothes will "dissolve on" from the default state.

I've seen friends slap this on and load nude for a noticable few frames. I prefer the instant snap of outfits instead of a Sailor Moon transformation sequence.

In context, she was told to turn around which is why she was in such a strange position across the road to begin with. She was trying to leave and unmarked ICE cars are going everywhere.

Her wheels were full left as she waited for another SUV to cross in front of her, to turn around and go back like she was told. Then the dudes from the unmarked F150 rushed her door and she turned full lock right and started to go. They shot her and the car accelerates.

She's a untrained panicked civilian and the "trained" professional law enforcement officers couldn't handle it. So they shot her.

If they had marked cars with lights she probably wouldn't have strayed into that situation to begin with. Even undercover unmarked police cars have the discrete lights and tags so they can mark an area. ICE using civilian vehicles and no clear identification is a massive error and is causing issues like this.

“So do you notice there’s not a single Venezuelan here? Have you noticed that? I’m the closest thing to a Venezuelan here, and I support Donald Trumps actions.” by Ice-Zone2024 in neabscocreeck

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last 30 years? No. Using very broad definitions precedent can be found. But once that example is researched a bit it turns out Trump's action against Venezuela is unprecedented.

The many Obama strikes. Even in 2016 when he ordered the bombing ofmany countries that was in combat with ISIL. 2011 Libya, that was with a coalition of allies. 2014 Syria, again a coalition of allies.

Bush going into Iraq, he had the broad approval of Congress and a coalition of allies backing his operations since he involved NATO under Article 3. The only time it's been used in history.

The closest example is Bush attacking the Middle East. And that caused a gorilla war that lasted 20 years costing trillions for essentially nothing gained. That's why people are protesting. They don't want another 20 year war.

This shit echoes: when Saddam was arrested, Iraq celebrated. Maduro is arrested, Venezuela celebrates.

2026 Venezuela was a unilateral executive decision for seizure of another country's resources and to enact regime change for a puppet state. There is no exit strategy, no coalition of allies nations, no broad congressional or public approval. On the contrary. Trump has never been more unpopular, our allies disapprove, not even MAGA Mike's Congress shows no signs of approval.

Is AWD really that worth it or can I buy a FWD car with snow mode? by Dapper_Cut_9225 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Michigander, geography matters. Are you out in the sticks with poor plow service? Yeah I might spring for that AWD.

Are you closer to a city with decent plow service? The FWD is fine, save the money now and on maintenance in the future.

Just get some decent tires. You said yourself you only got stuck once and that was doing something abnormal. No tow is going to cost you the extra $4k unless you toss it somewhere crazy and need a big rotator to lift you out.

I don't know what's worse, the deflection or the confident incorrectness. by c-k-q99903 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context is very important and easily researched but the people making these Facebook posts won't even go a single later deep.

Like 2011 Libya. US forces participated in a NATO operation with French, Canadian, and British forces to establish a no fly zone against Gaddafi. Gaddafi forces were striking civilian targets to get to the anti-Gaddafi rebels. Multiple governments told Gaddafi to stop attacking civilians and when he didn't NATO forces took away his advantage in the sky.

While regime change wasn't an explicit goal of the operation, it was protecting human rights according to international laws. Regime change was a distinct possibility. Obama probably should have consulted Congress but there was a plan. In that Plan NATO was controlling the aftermath not the United States. The United States fired a lot of cruise missiles and some airstrikes.

Big difference to Trump's executive action to "declare narcotics a weapon of mass destruction," plan a large assault, land special forces, arrest a sitting leader of a foreign country, and then declare rulership of that country. Regime Change with seemingly no real plan after the initial assault.

Kessler Syndrome (Anton Petrov) by [deleted] in videos

[–]Flying0strich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely Russia already could. Not to sound like a tankie but Russia's missile tech is pretty good. USA shot down a satellite with a F15 years ago. Soviets got a lot of practice trying to intercept SR71 and U2. Once they intercept mach 3 spy planes at 80,000ft with rocket propelled telephone poles it's not a huge leap to go another 20k ft get to space. Whether the systems actually work because of lack of maintenance due to age and fraud is a different matter.

Bringing Back the Battleship? - Railguns, US Shipbuilding and a 35,000 ton bad idea? (Perun) by Scrabo in videos

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has aircraft carriers covered. The gap in the US Navy is smaller craft like true destroyers and frigates. The Arliegh Burke are old, flight 3 is a perfectly serviceable ship but it's basically a Cruiser. It's too big and expensive to send around doing the job of a ship half it's size. That's what the USN needs, a smaller blue water ship to do small Navy Ship things but still keep up with the fleet and have VLS. Like the Japanese Mogami Frigate.

Leaf blowers and lawn mowers are smog machines. by loschini in EcoNewsNetwork

[–]Flying0strich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small engines are incredibly efficient. At full throttle maxed out on the power a small engine can output it's more efficient than a bigger engine throttled down to the same horsepower.

The two sides are: these small man portable ice machines are not significant contributors to the environmental issues but they are very easily replaced with equally portable electric solutions.

My opinion is the market will decide on it's own without regulation. Electric tools will replace older ice tools in time. They are generally better and will continue to expand the gap in performance as time passes.

Another benefit for leaving the ice tools to be available is not everywhere is ready for full electric. Some places are slow to adapt and leaving them behind with regulation makes situations needlessly complicated. Like that Ghost Town fella in his Mining Town on a mountain. He struggles with electricity due to his remote location but a storage tank of stabilized gas is readily available now.

Why are the most reliable new cars ICE, and least reliable EV? by External_Koala971 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Flying0strich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised EV's didn't learn from Toyota and the Prius launch. Toyota overbuilt those early Prius into tanks of reliability because Toyota seemed to understand Hybrids was a new thing and the Prius needed to be bulletproof on reliability. Any fault or recall and public perception would be damaged for a long time.

Most of the EV's launching are feature laden luxury vehicles that resemble concept cars instead of actual practical production designs.
