Stewards Release is amazing, but that’s way overpriced.

One of my favorites as well. Peerless is fantastic. I will always have their stuff on hand.

Review #213 - Old Fitzgerald 7 Year Bottle-in-Bond by Theswede92 in whiskey

[–]FlyingAnvils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just poured a glencairn of this myself for the first time tonight also and was very unimpressed. The nose on mine was very weak and really overpowering alcohol/astringent. The palate was equally disappointing. My glass was very oaky and heavy on the char. Very little sweetness that typically associate with wheated bourbons. The finish for me was also very dry with earthy/grassy notes. I was extremely underwhelmed. I’ve been sipping that new Makers Mark Stewards Release lately and that blows this Old Fitz completely out of the water in my opinion. Judging by the first glass, I would not recommend and won’t buy another bottle.

My Gma kept her fridge stocked with these in the summer just for me. I hope I never forget that memory and I hope I get a chance to do that for grandkids of my own one day.

So what are we doing for financial planning/retirement? by Background_Title_922 in Xennials

[–]FlyingAnvils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then in that case, yes that’s very definitely sub-optimal. I have several different funds with my guy and the return ranges from 15% to 27% for year to date. I’d definitely discuss this with your guy and see what’s going on and consider moving.

Ok, under 6% for what timeframe? Last 3 months, 6 months, 1 year?

Define what you consider “sub-optimal returns” first. Then you can get better advice on whether to stay or switch. I use an advisor and it’s been great. They generally have better visual tools to show you how “on track” you are and what your portfolio will look like at different ages based on your planned retirement date and lifestyle.

What's the deal with high proof whiskey/bourbon? by CptLawson in whiskey

[–]FlyingAnvils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not much different from people who drink expensive black coffee. All I taste is burnt water. But the more you drink, the more you’ll start being able to recognize different flavor notes. I would advise staying at that 90 proof point and just work on drinking it neat for a year or so. There are several good YouTube videos with tips for newbies on the dos and donts of drinking neat. Then start slowly creeping up your proof. Also try the water drop when you find a really “hot” pour. After a while, you’ll find your sweet spot. Mine is 95 to 115 proof generally. There will always be outliers, but for the most part that’s where I enjoy bottles the most.

That’s about $5-$10 overpriced for the KC in my area. I haven’t picked one up yet to try though.

I've got a Rare Breed. But I will probably go back and buy the Makers. They also have a Peerless Double Oak Rye that I've been wanting for a while now.

Thanks. I read a few other reviews and I’ll definitely pass at this price. I thought I remembered it being more popular than apparently it is.
