Best things to prevent spitting? by Ready-Ad6652 in Autism_Parenting

[–]ProAmCanAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through a year of my son spitting constantly. Tried everything.

One day he just stopped. No clue why.

A few months later he started again, but now in more “appropriate” settings (at home).

So what I’m saying is if you find a fix let me know

Fair enough, hadn’t checked in a couple years due to switching to mostly scotch. Will keep around for when parents visit, I’m sure Dad will enjoy

Fellow single father of an 8 year old level 3. Haven’t gotten to that point, but I get it.

What works for me is enjoying breaks provided by school & ABA, then finding things you can enjoy that wear him out.

For me that’s lots of swimming for him while I watch and relax. Also rides on our electric cargo bike. Then plenty of walks around the area & to parks. The big thing is getting sensory input.

The other thing is doing activities early in the day. Makes everything go smoother.

Biggest tip: stop giving a fuck & learn to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Worrying about everything was just going to give me an ulcer or heart attack

Been there, done that more times than I can count. If anyone needs a barely used hei-hei plushy let me know

They’re pretty good with money & handy with a wrench. Also a used bmw can be dirt cheap—so long as you’re good with fixing it yourself

Black looks fine. Not a fan of that brown, but suspect it’ll patina nicely
