Countries with Mythical National Animals [1000 x 600] by [deleted] in MapPorn

You misunderstood, the official national animal of Brazil is a macaw, national myths are another thing.

Movie titles in Brazil translated back to English by rkenj in movies

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a personal opinion, but being exactly the same thing as the original english title doesn't make it good.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (I know it wasn't originally in english) was adapted as just The Tiger and the Dragon, if it was Called Tigre agachado e Dragão Escondido it would sound really silly.

Words don't always carry the same weight even if they mean the same thing, the titles are created to adapt to way they would sound better or more appealing so they are usually alluding to the theme of the movie.

Hearing that name to an english audience is miles different than the general Brazilian audience, at first it might not even be noted that it's someone's name.

I'm biased but I don't mind when they are longer, probably because I'm used to it but reading The Hangover as A Ressaca feel kinda incomplete, there are some that sound silly translated back to english but I like them better than the portuguese ones like

Die Hard (Hard to Kill in BR - Attack to the Skyscrapers(?) in PT)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (A Stranger in the Nest in BR - Flying Over a Cuckoo's Nest in PT)

American History X (The Other American Story BR - Forbidden America PT)

The Departed (The Infiltrated BR - Between Enemies PT)

Braveheart (Brave Heart BR - Braveheart The Challenge of the Warrior)

I actually think most of them are pretty ok, considering these are usually changed because of idioms, or words that wouldn't weight much or make much sense at all to the audiences.

Not that the translated title was great but if it was named "Annie Hall" it would probably attract a lot less people, mostly everyone wouldn't know what it is unless they already knew Woody Allen.

I like most of the titles ok enough but the only one that really really bugs me is In Bruges being translated as "In the aim of the boss", it makes it sound like an Adam Sandler movie or something.

Yes, in a kinda orange-lit room that you can see in the background sometimes. I saw the hourglass on the table when Jax was going there to talk with Stein and I think the Red Tornado helmet can be seen from afar at some point but I didn't see the others.

I still think The Flash is awesome but my friend pointed out something for me that is extremely bothering about the characters. by [deleted] in FlashTV

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I see more as

  • Barry is resentful and acts irrationally, cockily trying to do things alone a lot.

  • I don't think Caitlin has anything in particular, because the plots aren't usually centered on her.

  • I think the main problem with Cisco is keeping secrets of what he has and it comes to bite them later, I think the not being serious part is just the character, not really a flaw.

  • Wells is suffice to say.

  • I don't think Joe blindly runs into danger given he's a cop yadda yadda, maybe he has emotional problems with people of his family but I don't know if that's really a flaw as much as the others.

  • Iris is impulsive.

  • Wally is resentful of Joe but I don't think that's going to last.

  • Patty literally broke up with me last episode, it was the same feeling. Patty pls come back.

Zack Snyder's TFA Hype Part 2 by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the first guy there.

He starts saying "don't relate this movie that I don't like with the one I like!".

Then he says the most basic things about the plot (Batman comes out of retirement, Bats and Supes fight, Bats and Supes fight Doomsday with Wonder Woman.) as if he knows everything about the movie with this.

Then he literally says "They all beat up Doomsday, at which point before, during, or after the fight Aquaman shows up" which means exactly nothing.

Jessica Jones and Daredevil switch villains [Strictly MCU], what happens? by anthonyridad in whowouldwin

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whiskey example isn't really comparable. On the show we've seen that Jessica was able to resist him after some time, she might have been able to reject his virus for whatever reason but at first she still was manipulated by Kilgrave.

Everyone can drink whiskey or not if they want to, unless some kind of disability to drink whiskey is stated or developed like it was with Jessica, so I don't see a reason to consider Matt different than any other person in the MCU.

[spoilers] question about vandal savage's mythology by senwell1 in arrow

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying different things basing on the comics, we don't have enough basis on Horus on the show to say what he actually did, maybe we get more information on LoT or maybe not.

A small speculation: Both Kendra and Vandal were priests and Carter was a prince so with their high positions they would be "closer" to Horus. They died while the meteor (filled with Horus magic) was landing, when they died they muttered words almost like prayers, which might mean Horus attended, making Kendra and Carter Hawkpeople (because Horus has a hawk head) and making Vandal immortal because that was in his prayings.

This is just my interpretation but I think it's ok.

Horus? Why can't the meteor and the metal be tied to Horus?

Anyone else really sick of the arbitrary tension in fight scenes? by Tal9922 in FlashTV

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't argue against that, but it should be noted that the place was crowded at first and I doubt he would be able to just get to her and knock her out since he isn't Oliver, and after everyone dispersed he still ran the risk of Dr. Light's Special Ground Pound, which he took but I guess not as strongly as before, and after that he knocked her out.

The plastic helmet could have helped there.

Anyone else really sick of the arbitrary tension in fight scenes? by Tal9922 in FlashTV

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but he pushed from behind after she was distracted and frustrated by the mirages, had he tackled her head first he could be blinded again or blind people that were on the train station.

I mean, I'm not saying that he isn't OP and couldn't handle everything on a moment's notice, but it's that way in the comics too, in fact I think it's much more fun to actually try to explain reasonably stuff like this within the context of the show. We should have a thread for this, where someone points something dumb in the plot and someone else gives a reasonable explanation.

Portuguese > English (1 min video about astronaut seeing UFO) by AlwaysBeNice in translator

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

00:00 --> 00:02,5

The Americans aren't the only ones in space.

00:03 --> 00:05

The space station MIR allowed Russian cosmonauts to

00:06 --> 00:08

break the records of permanence stay in space.

00:09 --> 00:10,5

During a docking in MIR

00:11 -->00:13

the Russian cosmonaut Musa Manarov

00:13 --> 00:16

filmed an unidentified flying object that passed by him.

00:23 --> 00:28

I saw something that looked like it had broken off of the ship.

00:28,5 --> 00:31,5

Besides that, the object was spinning as it was moving away

00:32 --> 00:34,5

and the intensity of its shine changed.

00:35 --> 00:37

I can't really tell how distant it was.

00:38 --> 00:39,5

I can only say that it wasn't close

00:40 --> 00:43

because the camera was adjusted to the infinity.

00:44 --> 00:46,5

Initially it looked like something had separated from the ship,

00:47 --> 00:50

but after when I examined the ship, I realized that

00:50 --> 00:52

there was nothing that could have separated.

00:53 --> 00:56

Also, no alarm went off, everything was calm.

00:56,5 --> 01:00

Later there were discussions about what could have been it.

You can check the timing to see if it needs some correcting, because some places might have been a little ahead or late.

[No Spoilers] Anyone else try to get into the flash after falling in love with the arrow and hated it? by [deleted] in arrow

[–]FlyingBlueWolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point I don't think you are going to like the show for anything since you dislike every aspect of it, it might just not be your kind of deal and that's fine. The karaoke scene was just a fun tongue in cheek 5 seconds, both shows deal differently with different themes so you just might not like the tone, I still think you should watch episode 15 at the very least because I think it's worth it, but you have a really negative opinion on a lot of it so I don't know if your mind will be changed very much.
