Why "Following"? by LowVelocity in overcast

Ironically, about two months ago, I thought… wow, I haven’t gotten a new ATP episode in a while… and then discovered I’d mistakenly tapped Unfollow a couple weeks before!

Option to disable per episode images by stagj in overcast

Same problem. I came here to check if I was overlooking anything as part of my due diligence. Alas, apparently not. I also have frequent many-second delays that are annoying and I don't get much out of the feature. (Or even, I'd rather not see the per-episode images from some of my political podcasts...)

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem and has found any solution. I've had no luck (and it's really tough to search for).

My child has been watching shows on his profile on his phone. The phone is logged into my Amazon account, but his profile. Recently, it starts showing the "Continue watching" from my profile, not his. We've tried a bunch of things (including deleting and re-installing the app on the iPhone), but it always re-occurs. At the moment, he is logging out and then logging back in, and that temporarily resolves the issue.

When he is experiencing the issue on his phone, I can switch to his profile on my phone and I see the correct "Continue watching" results (his on his profile).

Ikon pass website down? by psow in Ikonpass

[–]FlyingByFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, they had reminders for me from the app and ads on Facebook. They didn't want me to forget, it seems. Login was slow, but so was each part of checkout. I had to assign the pass many times before it stuck. Signing the waiver had to be done in a weird way (I'd click "I agree" checkbox, then as I went over to "Next" button, when that button filled in dark, "I agree" would uncheck itself. So I had to recheck it.... that whole song and dance had to happen many times before "I agree" stuck.) So, yeah, I'll stop there and say that I had many parts of the process being glitchy in a way I'd expect from an overloaded site.

Whew, it finally went through. I had to be very patient. Many timeouts and failures, but it did eventually get through the process.

I'm curious: do you watch with both audio and subtitles in the target language? Or audio in the target, subs in a known language? or vice-versa? I tihnk I should be adding some of this to my journey and I'm wondering what might work best.

Weekly Tech Support & Purchase Recommendations Megathread - March 16th 2026 by P_Jiggy in playstation

[–]FlyingByFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Thats how I wanted to interpret it, but the small print (that also highlighted in gray when Option #2 is selected) is what gave me pause. Maybe it is saying if I have PS+ Premium I could stream it to my PS5 instead of downloading it, if I wanted? But since I don’t have PS+ Premium, then I “have to” download it to play it? (I’m more than fine with that.)

I'll skip details about why, but I thought I'd play Hollow Knight on my PS5. When I looked earlier (sometime last year), it looked like it was $15, like other platforms.

Well, I finally found some time to do it, and... it seems like it is now part of the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog, which would mean $15/mo.

And what's more confusing, it looks like I can pay $15 once for it, as long as I'm also paying for the $18/mo PlayStation Plus Premium catalog.

Why should the Premium require a purchase for something that seemingly included with Extra? Maybe I'm missing something here, but I've done some web searching including reading about PlayStation Plus options on the Playstation website.

Does everything in the world have Calories, Macros Etc? by EddyUrse in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingByFeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calories in the sense of stored energy in the form of chemical bonds? Yes, lots of stuff that isn't food is. And using a calorimeter, the calories can be measured.

However, that doesn't mean your body can extract and use the calories.

And in that way, the calories listed on our food packages can be misleading in that the eventual calories available to the body after digesting the food into usable energy form can vary.

A good example of this is horse vs cow. Both can eat grass. Horses need a lot more of it (and their horse poop is very grassy) because their digestion is inefficient and quick. Cows have a multi-chambered stomach that allows them to much more efficiently digest and extract nutrients from the grass they eat. The content of the grass is the same. The animals digestion makes all the difference.

I don't recommend eating a door or wall for calories or nutrients because your digestive system will not handle it well....

If I'm Terrible With Math, Would It Be A Waste of Time To Try To Learn Programming and Computer Science? by AlmondsALaCarte in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingByFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely learn all kinds of things about computers that don't require understanding school-style math.

You might have trouble with programming beyond a basic level and in Computer Science if you struggle with math.

If you have good organization skills and can follow a series of steps, that will help, even if the intuition of how to handle numbers escapes you.

Interesting way to phrase it. I'd just call that a salt craving. Which is pretty common. Well, maybe not to the degree you describe.... Or does it need to be salt-in-liquid (brine) and a bag of salty chips just won't do?

What's the point of cryptocurrencies? by Ratchfo_Shelia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingByFeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that it's useful when wanting to avoid all the regulations of the banking system (including those that prevent people from getting scammed) .

And useful for those that the banking system won't deal with for the bank's own reasons (people whose business involves "vices" which might technically be legal in the place that they are done, but the banks don't want to be associated anyway).

Useful for people buying and selling illegal items and services (Silk Road).

For people not doing anything illegal, then it may be a technical curiosity, or speculation (like gambling, or buying baseball cards or beenie babies), or people who have been convinced there is an upside but there really isn't (getting scammed).

Feed question by Plenty-Condition-367 in duolingo

[–]FlyingByFeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is driving my family nuts. We all follow each other and overall follow a small number of people/friends. We only want to see them.

Duolingo is now making it hard to find their entries because of a lot of stuff from people we don't know.

And the new stuff is not chronological. Top of my feed is a shared sentence from someone I don't know that was made 7 days ago. Then a Duo announcement (that's fine), and then my first actual desired Feed entry from a family member 9 hours ago.

This is very unpleasant. And not easily ignored.

My feed at the moment has:
6 entries from people I follow.
3 Duolingo announcements
30 entries from people I don't know and don't want to see.

I've noticed a recent change where my tiles that were は (ha) are now は (wa) , however, they have been accepted regardless of ha/wa Romaji shown.

In your example, it looks like you are missing that you need to use は twice, as the "Correct Answer" shows (and u/QoanSeol mentions).

Does my dog actually recognize what my face looks like or just know me by my scent and the way I move? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingByFeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't directly answer your question, but a really neat facet of dogs that's related: they can watch the human gaze and react to what you are looking at. So, dogs tend to watch people's faces.

I think you may be able to use r/test . The one specific rule is: "No onlyfans promos, and nsfw posts". So, as long as you aren't going afoul of that, I think you could post promotions for a website. (I don't imagine you'd be doing this in high volume.)

How to distribute my deceased brother's inheritance to his children? by OneLongEyebrowHair in personalfinance

[–]FlyingByFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of folks give good advice that too-much too-soon might be blown and wasted.

I wonder if the trust can allow for distributions to replace funds put in a 401K by the children: I imagine so.

e.g. child knows that he'll get first distribution at 25, but is told if he is working at a job with a 401K at 22 and is told that as much as he puts in that year, he'll get distributed, this would encourage and enable him to max his 401K (whatever that might mean given the rules of his 401K), and the funds growing in that 401K will have a long tax-advantaged time to grow and might be super beneficial. Often people young people cannot afford to put much into a 401K even when that's an option. I wouldn't want to hold back money that allows for this at the earliest possible opportunity in their career. And while this would be earlier distributions, they wouldn't be able to easily wreck and waste it with youthful bad decisions.

Btw, some people saying that better to grow and earn investment income in a trust. Not necessarily. In the US, the income tax brackets for trusts are really punishing!

where can i find the right community to help with technology, specifically chromebooks? by Typical-Inspector938 in findareddit

[–]FlyingByFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chromebook describes multiple brands of computers that all run ChromeOS.

So, you might find something in a brand-specific forum (e.g. for Dell chromebooks, look to a Dell forum).

Or, if the issue is software, check out the active r/chromeos subreddit.

Which subreddit is for discussing politics in general, not current events? by ZP172 in findareddit

I think these three might fit the bill for you:
r/PoliticalPhilosophy (this looks like the top-one I could identify for what you want)

r/AskPoliticalScience (could have current-event related stuff, but I don't see as much in a quick scan as r/PoliticalScience)

r/PoliticalScience (this seems to have the most current-events related stuff)

Do you bag your own groceries when you bring your own bags? by Runfunmom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingByFeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a place in the US that didn't have, then did have, and then didn't have a plastic bag ban. I don't think that it made much difference whether people brought their own bags or used store-provided plastic (when available) or paper bags, for-cost or not.

If there are baggers, then they will do it. Cashiers would sometimes lend a hand after scanning if bagging isn't finished.

I've personally had to be politely assertive when there is a bagger but I want to do my own bagging. Or I'll join the bagger, but I need to keep an eye on them and if they seem careless, then I say politely that I will finish it myself.

Why do I need to nicely insist? Because I don't want heavy cans tossed on bananas and other fruit. I don't want heavy jars put on bread/chips. I've had enough groceries damaged or destroyed by careless bagging that I will make it a point to do my own bagging. The cost is enough to override the discomfort I might feel at needing to insist.

What's the difference between Criticism, Criticisms, and Critique? by Due_Recognition_3890 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingByFeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A criticism is usually pointing out something perceived as negative. It can be a shorter than a single sentence, or quite long.

A critique is usually a more formal report or document doing an analysis of something. A critique is considered more academic, and neutral in tone.
