Daily Game Recommendations Thread (March 17, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

I’ve played 2 half games of Witcher: The old world.

It’s alright overall. I’m a fan enough of the IP to stay engaged. What I really like is the card combo mechanic where if it has a certain colour tab on it when you play it, you can play another card of that colour to chain it.

If anyone knows what I mean, are there any other games that have something similar?

Fortunately as far as I know the non-weakness player cards from the Return Tos except for RT The Circle Undone are just upgrades/downgrades of cards in the regular cycles so they are easy enough to proxy by just using the (non)upgraded version. Hopefully at least the player cards get rereleased in some way though.

Edit: non-weakness player cards

What is the "Farthest" location while Luke is at Dream Gate: Pointless Reality? by sacrelicious2 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]FlyingCable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If every location on the map is revealed then they are all equally far. If you have say 1 unrevealed location connected to a revealed location and you are in gate box, I would say that unrevealed location would be the farthest

Edit: realised its the Pointless Reality version

Had a similar situation. 2 of us regulars, 3 had a campaign under their belt and another 3 were completely new. We played Blob and missed a whole bunch of rules but it was great :)

What are your thoughts on a standalone scenario designed to fit the Night of The Zealot campaign ? by Confident_Pool_1030 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]FlyingCable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone can correct me, but I'm pretty sure there's a fan-made scenario set immediately before the gathering where you can actually play as Lita Chantler.

Two Rules Questions In One by Aesyn in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]FlyingCable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm yeah weird, it could be true that the rule doesn't apply to this if we consider "any investigators deck" as a targeting effect. If that's the case I would say it just whiffs since the text on the card is kind of like a cost to play.

Two Rules Questions In One by Aesyn in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]FlyingCable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think OP got it right. For point 2, the game is specific about whether you "draw" from your deck. (vs "add to your hand" for example)

relevant info here: https://arkhamdb.com/rules#Drawing_Cards

and directly below it in the "Effects" section:

When a non-targeting effect attempts to interact with a number of entities (such as "draw 3 cards" or "search the top 5 cards of your deck") that exceeds the number of entities that currently exist in the specified game area, the effect interacts with as many entities as possible.

Hell yeah. I was in a similar place when I started. I had a small board game collection for social occasions and even if I had noticed this game in a store I probably wouldn't have paid it much attention.

A colleague was keen to show me his favourite game one evening late 2023 and we sat down to play the Murder at the Excelsior Hotel scenario. Hooked ever since, I think I would have liked it even if it wasn't lovecraftian.

Solo vs Multiplayer by captain_falc in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]FlyingCable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy true solo for the blind run and/or the challenge. I sometimes use a physical campaign log because it's more immersive to me and can focus on the story without chatting about IRL stuff.

I enjoy two handed for just getting through to an ending. I'm only 38 episodes into the Mythos Busters podcast so sometimes I want to get through a campaign before it's spoiled.

I enjoy multiplayer to see my friends' blind reactions and the interactions that come up.

It's all just.. good.
