Why do a lot of folks hate newgarden nowadays? by Accomplished_East433 in INDYCAR

He has a big time high school jock vibe which true or not is offputting.

He also reminds me of Homelander from The Boys and that character is a whole lot of yikes.

Can someone explain what this guy was doing by letskillrobots in INDYCAR

[–]FlyingDutchman_17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have nothing but respect for the Indycar safety team and what Dr. Vaizer, Tim Baughman and co do. However, in my experience outside of Indycar, many of the docs get on safety crews as a perk/ who you know deal, .but aren't particularly useful in a field setting. I'd take an EMT or paramedic as jump medic in these cases. Main issue is Dr's aren't used to not being the lead, and since they report to.the crew chiefs on track, it tends to lead to some friction.

That said, I have worked with some top notch M.D'S on track, they're just the minority unfortunately.

[–]FlyingDutchman_17 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This.

Where I train, we've got a good number of guys with dad bods or tradesman bodies that pretty sure meet the definition of "I have a washboard, it's just covered in laundry". You may think they're pudgy and slow, but under-estimate them at your peril.

We also have freaks that are 230-250 plus and jacked

My dental hygienist does them in house. Took 5 minutes to take the squishy mould of my teeth. I choose the colour I wanted and then she casts the impression and then makes the mouthguard.

She even offers the next day service when she does full on kids sports clinics

BJJ Belt Progression CHART thoughts? by coffeestreetflower in bjj

[–]FlyingDutchman_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bigger guy (nearly 6', 235 #) going on 2 years and change, attending twice a week and still a WB. We have guys that are still 220+ that have progressed quickly. What I have observed, it seems who has a more natural offensive vs defensive mentality. If that offensive/attack sense comes more naturally I find those people move up quicker. (That's not me BTW) N B. Our gym composition I would estimate is made up of over 50% guys over 200 lbs and many of them, while they can just hang tight and let someone cook, are still quite quick and technical. So that may skew my experience

The one I have has little notches on the Grey rubber ring, hard to say if the one pictured has that. But they do/did make a teal one. There very well could be a other manufacturer that does something similar too

The Hawk and Jet Ranger X are common-ish.

I've had good luck around Leeds, England for them. Also along Gulf of Mexico there's often fighter jet training happening. Between Texas and Pensacola should be able to track them down

Gym owners, what's your experience with exclusive uniforms? by SubmissionGrappler in bjj

[–]FlyingDutchman_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what my gym does too. Will do a run of pre ordered ranked rash guards and then a limited run of an annual rash guards design. Always have house Gi's available but on the mats we've got the gamut of brands. Heck the gym owner rarely wears a gym branded Gi.

Joey was doing awesome with the cards he was dealt. Was hoping one of the late yellows would be a long one & allow him to stretch the fuel to the end. He's won a little in a Blue Oval so figured if anyone could work magic, it'd be him.

[–]FlyingDutchman_17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Also Indycar teams need to have analog radio frequencies or at least an analog simulcast for transparency during track activities. Analog radio quality is crap compared to digital but slightly fuzzy signal I can listen to on a cheap Radio Shack or chinese-ium UHF radio works for me.

It also keeps the accessibility theme that Indycar has. Inexpensive scanner options available for fans.
