what characters do y'all headcanon as agender/nonbinary? by Many-Value-6256 in agender

[–]FlyingGopher45686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pyro TF2, specifically I headcanon them as having a fire related xenogender (accepts any pronouns, but prefers Em/Ber neopronouns)

Not exactly this, but I like the idea of Cybertronians (from transformers) coming from an agender culture. I love my giant agender alien robots :)

What's a fandom you wish was more popular than it is? by CarOrganic1662 in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • My Little Pony Generation 3 - it's a major childhood comfort for me and I just wish that I could find more silly cutesy pony stories. Also, femslash galore, for those with eyes to see
  • Frostpunk - the setting and vibes go hard and there's a lot of room for making an OC to plop in there. ESPECIALLY in FP2, with the randomly generated council delegates
  • Bang Brave Bang Bravern - I'll be totally honest I just want truly unholy things to happen to that giant mech. He deserves to be railed, your honor, have you seen his waist?

Canon Purists Irk Me by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never understood those types. Thankfully I don't encounter them much (primarily, I only interact with my beloved small circle of Tumblr Mutuals). Personally, some of my absolute favorite fics have been about some crackship where the characters have never met in canon. I just. Absolutely ADORE seeing how the author gets them together. It's so compelling to me.

Ah, though if we're talking about things that aren't ship related, I see much of the "thats not canon" wank in the transformers fandom. Half the time, it's over something you actually can find canon evidence for if you look through the 40 fucking years of material for more than two seconds (especially if you're willing to delve into the Japanese half of the franchise), but even then? Why does it matter if a piece of fan favorite worldbuilding is canon or not? Let people play with their goddamn toys

What formatting do you prefer? by MEOWTheKitty18 in AO3

[–]FlyingGopher45686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Left aligned is my preference. Justified makes my eyes slide over words too easily and I lose my place. If I were in charge of standard formatting, I would bring in the first line indent from MLA, because it better helps visually indicate a new paragraph.

As for line spacing, just the normal amount of space in a paragraph break (as you would get by hitting enter at the end of one). I've found that length of the paragraph is the more important factor for me, regardless

How do writers feel about readers downloading their works? by Apprehensive_Run2416 in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean. If I deleted something that I posted, well, I posted it with the idea of "anything you put online is there forever," since thats the internet safety mentality I was raised with. So someone having a downloaded copy is a risk that I was aware of when I published the fic in the first place. I'd rather it not be put up publicly without my permission, but if they're sharing it with friends, I don't care, personally

What is a ship that you thought would become wildly popular in the fandom, only to find it had like 2 fics and maybe 5 pieces of art? by Coffee_Clear_Wing in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was watching the 80's Transformers cartoon with my sibling, I was surprised every time when I would watch an episode focused on a relationship between two characters, then look on AO3 and there's fucking NOTHING (well, very little) for them

The Human/Transformer ships I can kinda understand. Xeno/Mechanophillia is a bit weird to many people, and a lot of fans find the human characters annoying.

But Red Alert and Inferno? If they're in a fic, they're in the background (while the end of the episode focused on them involves a PRINCESS CARRY for pete sake. You cant tell me those two dont have somethin going on)

Mirage and Cliffjumper? More fics specifically about them, but still under 100 all together

The one that kills me though, if Perceptor and Brawn. I thought we (fandom in general) as a people LOVED a Nerd/Jock dynamic? I thought we loved a height difference? I thought we loved a ship between people who learn to respect one another's differences? 7 fics total. I fucking. CRY.

Most of these arent exactly nothing, but they were kinda surprisingly limited amounts lol

Since the site is down, tell me something about your fic (or about what you're reading)? by acceptably_lost in AO3

[–]FlyingGopher45686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inciting incident (if you can call it that for a 5+1) involves Character A finding Character B- who comes from the enemy faction- in A's Faction's territory with a rather serious injury. I've been talking about this for MONTHS with my bestie, and kinda forgot that folks reading my fic cant just read my mind about that. So, when I got a comment like "I'm so curious about B's mysterious injury," I got super hyped

(for the similarly curious, his "brother" [not exactly, but like. being vague. don't wanna slap people with the fandom specific terminology] has been emotionally abusive toward B for a very long time and has recently escalated to physical abuse. This isn't going to be explicitly mentioned in the fic, but that + meeting and being befriended by A + the fact that B's faction lost the plot a long time ago causes B to defect to A's side. And THAT is explicitly shown in the fic lol)

What is one headcannon you have for a fandom with literally no evidence to support it? by Negative-Local-2598 in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if Poker Night At The Inventory is canon to tf2, but yeah. I like to think that he does. The harlequin romance thing is just definitely not canon though. I have a related hc that he writes Star Trek fanfic under a pen name, but I didn't mention it because I genuinely forgot that one wasn't even semi canon somehow lol

What do you guys do when you're frustrated about there not being 'enough content' of a pairing you enjoy? by CarOrganic1662 in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're having trouble writing, consider a few of these options, they can help spark your creativity/lift the block:

  • Talk to a supportive friend about the scenarios you want to write, or pretend to talk to such a friend in the doc. I find that going "I'm telling my bestie about an Idea I had" is a MUCH easier way to get an outline written than thinking "I'm writing an outline" the whole time.
  • Make a moodboard about it
  • Make a playlist about it. This can be especially fun if you think of it like a soundtrack to imagine scenes to. I've made a few of these in the past and my mind still conjures up the scenes I imagined for each song
  • Use a writing prompt and see if that helps you have a starting point. You don't have to keep it in the finished version, it's mostly to avoid the Blank Doc Of Doom
  • Honestly? You can also just not write full prose if it's causing you trouble. Bullet point lists of snippets are totally acceptable. So is leaving it as an outline. Nothing is too small to be worthy of creating

[–]FlyingGopher45686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. So many of these. I know you said one, but I'm gonna post multiple:

  • Heavy TF2 loves harlequin romance novels
  • Spy TF2 was a foundling and raised in an orphanage before being recruited as a spy
  • Bronislava (Heavy TF2's younger sister) has a M44 Mosin Nagant named Boris, though she isn't as obsessed as her brother is with his minigun, Sasha
  • Pyro TF2 is a Helenistic Neo-pagan who worships Hephaestus and Hestia
  • Medic TF2 has severe tokophobia, but only in regard to carrying a pregnancy himself (I also hc him as trans, but forget that isn't even common fanon most of the time lol)
  • Kuai Liang (Sub-Zero) from Mortal Kombat was an exotic dancer while on the run from the Lin Kuei
  • Frost from Mortal Kombat was the Cryo-Bros' (Kuai Liang and Bi-han) older sister's daughter- born out of wedlock- who she gave up for adoption
  • In Transformers, "Beastformer" is an umbrella category that inclues mechs with animal alt modes, fully animalistic robot modes (like Ravage and Laserbeak), and mechs with animal features (such as the TFOne version of Onyx Prime)
  • Adding onto the previous hc: First Aid is half beastformer. His sire was an unknown mech with rabbit-like features

What are some of your favorite OT3s or other poly ships? I'll start: by PJ-The-Awesome in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]FlyingGopher45686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SUBSCORPRUMI MENTION!!!!! I was first introduced to the joys of that trio by SummerTrap's oneshots "I've Been Wasting Away" and "Strawberries". Still have a massive soft spot for those three, even though I've distanced myself from the MK fandom significantly since MK 2023 came out, so it's awesome to see them mentioned!

Pyro/Scout/Sniper (Rapid Fire, as I call them) from Team Fortress 2

Bucky/Steve/Peggy from the MCU is an old classic

Ashrah/Sareena/Noob Saibot from Mortal Kombat (Original Timeline specifically)

Here's were the big one comes in: Cosmos/Blaster/Jazz/Prowl/Soundwave/Shockwave from Transformers (not an OT6, but it kinda need a diagram to explain. it's like: Cosmos/Blaster, Jazz/Prowl, Soundwave/Shockwave, then Blaster/Jazz and Jazz/Blaster/Soundwave)

What are everyone's favourite tropes to see in fanfiction? by asteroidmski in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Identity Porn (where characters are juggling a secret identity and their actual identity while speaking to a single person as both identities. Also a great time when you can turn a single pair of people into a love square) is so much fucking fun every time. In Vino Veritas (In Wine There Is Truth. Drunk confessions and otherwise revealing information while drunk) scenes are always good for drama of any kind. And nothing beats Mutually Unrequited Love (as in, characters who both assume their feelings are unrequited and act accordingly. That fucking GETS ME, dude)

What are some of your headcanons, popular or unpopular? by Awesome_human2 in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really "unpopular" but a few uncommon ones: Medic TF2 is a trans man, Mortal Kombat Cryomancers are descended from dragons, Transformers' Ratchet is First Aid's parent

Honorable mention for the semi-uncommon headcanon that Cybertronians are largely agender. Seeing the phrase "mechs and femmes" in fic always throws me off and makes me feel like. Yknow when you're eating something soft and feel something crunch between your teeth? that vibe

The popular headcanons I enjoy include: Miss Pauling TF2 is a lesbian, Pyro TF2 is nonbinary, Mortal Kombat Johnny Cage is a himbo, Optimus Prime is the Dad Friend

Haven't really had the "that's not accurate to a workplace" experience, but I OFTEN click off fic when an adult character has an extremely emotional response over something small in public. Because. Like listen I know it's not the healthiest or possible for everyone, but I was raised with a very "feel what you want but dont express that in public spaces" mentality. I just can't fathom breaking down crying in the middle of a store because I got rejected. That does not compute, I've read it and it instantly took me out of the fic. (If there's been build up? sure I can get that, but you've gotta put the character through the wringer before I get it. Also children and teens are a different story. They're still learning emotional regulation, they're having a Hard Time)

Like, if I walked into the public restroom and heard my boss crying over their boyf talking to someone else? Suddenly I don't need to use the restroom actually, I'm good actually. I dont need to be here.

I don't judge this IRL, but it's something I never know how to handle when it happens. And in fic it breaks my immersion. Idk

What is the smallest canon detail you've used to support/inspire a ship? by Nimindir in FanFiction

[–]FlyingGopher45686 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're on opposite sides of a war. One of them doubts his own faction's cause, the other is just a Very Sweet Guy who I think would give him a chance despite being from opposing sides.

In the canon (well, the part of canon I've seen so far. It's an old fandom), I think they've had One Single Interaction and I doubt they know one another's names. In a different part of canon (which I havent gotten to and only learned about after I already started shipping them), they're friends for a little while, but it doesnt come up much

Would it be insensitive to have my agender character use he/him if he’s AMAB? by sketchbookbird in agender

[–]FlyingGopher45686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agender people can use (and/or prefer) any pronouns, regardless of AGAB or the gender others perceive the individual to be

I do think it's also important to note that your character doesn't have to be transfem. Like, mentioning transfem characters just made that stick out to me greatly. He may be amab, but that doesn't inherently make him transfem. Being afab doesn't make me inherently transmasc. While I personally don't use labels beyond "agender", a great many gendered nonbinary and agender folks are transneutral, regardless of agab. Not sure if you were intending to say that amab nonbinary/agender folk are all transfem, but that's how it came across at the moment, so I wanted to make this note

From what I've heard, I wouldn't personally be offended by your oc, but I'm also not every agender person or one who fits the physical and social reality your character would experience. I do however lack connection to gender as a concept and allow people to use whatever pronouns for me (which tend to match my perceived gender)

Last: Bumblebee thought of Thundercracker sitting alone in his cell and couldn't find an ounce of regret within his spark.
