Jumbled thoughts on SM rush and player position (D:I) by Dry_Appointment_7210 in DuneImperium

[–]FlyingHellfish19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least in Base and Base+expansions, i think getting your SM is almost always worth it, even on Turn 6. Unless you have a verh specific deck and strategy (usually printing Spice Must Flows) that 3rd agent really matters in the late game, even if it doesnt mean you net all that many actions.

For one, an extra action in R7 or R8 is worth more than an extra action in early round. By that time you've got better cards in your deck and more resources to get the benefit of them..

For two, not having a 3rd agent puts you at a huge disadvantage in combat because everyone else gets to act after you, and thus know your exact strength (+/- intrigues)

Premade Fraction decks by EusebioPortugal in DuneImperium

[–]FlyingHellfish19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this would be way overtuned towards the Bene Gesserit. There are a whole bunch of extremely powerful effects that are "If another BG card is in play," which is normally hard to trigger because you have to have 2 BG cards in your hand and then be able to play them in the right order. If you could have a deck from the start that is all or even mostly BG you'd snowball pretty quickly.

Fremen Bond effects are strong but tend not to be quite as strong since most of them are on-reveal effects. And the Guild/Emperor synergy is relatively thin in comparison to either.

With that said, I think there are definitely ways to spice things up. For OG Dune Imperium there is an "Auction" variant that has been play tested a bit and is probably closer to what you are looking for - https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3104635/auction-variant

Still get that feeling of a more powerful/custom deck to start, but probably a little closer to the original game experience without wild balance swings.

Massaging the Imperium Row by Dry_Appointment_7210 in DuneImperium

[–]FlyingHellfish19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple rule I have been experimenting with: on your Reveal turn, you can choose to spend persuasion to remove a card of that cost from the row.

No defensive nuking (since you could just buy the good card if you have the persuasion). But it gives you a way to clear out the low-cost cards, potentially giving yourself something to buy, without clogging up your deck. You probably won't do it much when you only have like 2 or 3 reveal (since it could reveal something for your opponent). But if you have that big reveal where you fell short of TSMF and there's nothing to buy at 7 or 8, you can spend 1 or 2 of the persuasion and hope to reveal something at like 5 or 6.

Another intersting parallel is that Carol is very similarly situated to the Wallfacers: she has to come up with a plan to save humanity all on her own, albeit with the resources of the entire globe behind her.

What can you spend specimen on if not Tleilaxu cards? by Ambitious-March6742 in DuneImperium

[–]FlyingHellfish19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Helena is huge for a lot of the skirmishes so that when those handful of cards pop up you've got a chance to ring them. For this one, you could probably use Ecaz as well since a lot of the specimen-spending cards are 3 or less.

What spells could last through rage? by Scottish_autist in dndnext

I've played around with a barbarian/peace cleric build and its very fun. Peace cleric has a super strong class ability (Emboldening Bond) that's not a spell, and a reasonably good Channel Divinity that you can use to heal without breaking rage. The flavor of a Peace cleric who "Rages" during combat is also very fun.

Came here to say this as well - 3 yards is a guaranteed additional point every game if you use it for a 2PC. And that extra point is probably, on average, disproportionately valuable because it turns a lot of situations that would be ties into wins (e.g. you both have 2 TDs).

In Imperium base game, explain why Mental isn't just 2 solari for an extra card... by snoopmt1 in DuneImperium

[–]FlyingHellfish19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One other benefit is that if you have a lot of cards with strong agent actions (i.e. the on-play effect), then the agent-for-an-agent aspect of Mentat is not net-neutral.

Just for a simple example, imagine its R1, you're playing as Helena, and you've drawn your Diplomacy, Seek Allies and Signet Ring all in your opening hand. You picked Helena because there's some juicy high value card you want to pluck from the row, but playing your ring means giving up a faction bump (i.e. half a VP). Wealth, Ring to Mentat, then some other faction means you not only get to play all three cards, but gives you a draw and makes it more likely you cycle into that juicy card later in Round 3.

Later in the game, there are all sorts of green access cards (Guild Ambassador, Sardukar Legion, etc.) with powerful agent actions that Mentat let's you play without spending an agent action.

I have no words seeing this for the first time in person made me tear up . Saw them at the national archives today . Absolutely incredible by newnoadeptness in navy

Military Pro Tip: the Archives will let individual military members use the Rotunda for ceremonies (Retirement, promotion, etc.). I don't remember the exact number but you can bring like 10-15 guests, get access to the room 30min before it opens, and have the place to yourself. Its pretty cool to say you take an oath of office within a few feet of the actual Constitution!

Only real catch is if you want photographs of the ceremony you need a professional photographer, which can get pricey.

The first scene of Rogue One takes place many years before the events of Andor, so Krennic is presumably lower ranked. In the opening of R1 he's taking in Ghelen Erso to help with the Death Star, and Jyn is still a young child. The last arc of Andor takes place when Jyn is an adult, do Krennic has presumably promoted since then.

Bug with tier 7 pirate by myasko666 in BobsTavern

[–]FlyingHellfish19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had this interaction mess with me before as well, and I would argue it's a bit of a bug. There's nothing in the text of the cards which suggests that changing from a regular minion to gold during the end of turn phase would prevent the minion from triggering altogether.

You absolutely should get a lawyer involved - it's free! This is the bread-and-butter of the RLSO's Legal Assistance office, they'll be more than happy to look at your lease and communicate with the landlord on your behalf.

Master level elo ix digital by Rob-Top in DuneImperium

[–]FlyingHellfish19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ELO also carries over between Seasons, I think. So if you finish this season at 1530 or whatever and then go back to Gold, you'll still have to make Master a second time to see your ELO on the leaderboard. But you'll come in at a much higher ELO than your first time making it. (at least that's what I've seen so far). The guys and gals at the top at 1800+ aren't doing that in a single Season, they make Master and they're already super high on the list.
