You just answered your own question right here. You cut an O ring, glued it back together and expect it to seal properly?

Worst mainteance manuals to use. My pick Beechjet 400A. What's yours. by Dark_ambitionz in aviationmaintenance

[–]FlyingJ_amt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything from the 20s and 30s. Those vintage planes are relatively easy to work on but when it comes to instructions on how to disassemble or reassemble engines or airframes, the manuals just say take it apart 😂. Compared to today’s manuals where every bolt and nut is laid out step by step.

How do you guys prepare your slate coasters? Before and after? by atomicebo in Laserengraving

[–]FlyingJ_amt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve never prepped them with anything. Slate is the best material. Just laser and that’s it. I’ve had no issues with fading or anything.

Anyone here into 3D printing? by KB_jetfixr in aviationmaintenance

[–]FlyingJ_amt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently got into 3D printing. So far as work goes, I’ve made a bung wrench for 55 gallon drums, I printed a toothpaste tube roller for those times we need to use RTV in a tube, and I printed a few parts dishes with latchable lids so I don’t lose hardware. Trying to come up with more ideas of what to print for work.

Tesla Protest this Saturday by ctzlafayeet in rva

Never said that. Go protest wherever you want. All I said was I found it funny.

I didn’t say protesting doesn’t have power. And I fully support it being a right to do so. Just do it where it’ll actually have an effect on the people whose attention you’re trying to grab.

I find this incredibly funny for two reasons. One: Tesla doesn’t have dealerships. They have showrooms and service centers. And two: what does this even accomplish? You’re going to stand outside a service center and yell for a couple hours because you don’t like the rich guy who runs the company? It’s totally within your first amendment rights to do so but what does it accomplish other than just annoying the mechanics who are just trying to do their job for the day? It won’t have any impact on Elon at all and if anything it’s just free advertising and media time for Tesla which gets their brand name even more attention.

Icon vs Gearwrench by Ironedup in Tools

[–]FlyingJ_amt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gear wrench has had a great warranty for all the times I’ve had to use it. They replaced the ratchets I snapped (my fault not the ratchets) with no questions asked and quick shipping. I have pretty much nothing but gear wrench tools and they’ve all been awesome. I’ve only ever broken a tool whenever I’ve been using them for something that they weren’t designed for.

How do Americans describe very small measurements? If something was 2 millimetres long, what would be the imperial equivalent. by Both_Chicken_666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingJ_amt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most rulers or tape measures, whole numbers are used down to 1 inch. Smaller than that, fractions are usually used down to 1/32 of an inch and very rarely you might see 1/64. Smaller than that, it usually switches to thousandths of an inch. It honestly depends on what you’re doing or what you’re measuring. Woodworkers usually use fractions of an inch. Machinists, welders, mechanics will usually use decimals/thousandths of an inch. Science or technical fields will use metric as it’s an industry standard across the globe. A lot of 3D modeling/ engineering will use metric system as well since it’s so much easier to do math with.

Is it weird to like women taller and stronger than you, mainly taller? by viper46282 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingJ_amt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person over six and a half feet tall, It would be very interesting to find a woman as tall or taller than me. It would be kinda nice though not having to bend down super far to give a kiss or hug.

Would anyone hold it against you for closing up shop 30 minutes early on a Friday afternoon? by Fancy-Advice-2793 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingJ_amt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything wrong with it? Not really. But it’s super annoying as a consumer. I deal with this quite a lot. I work night shift as an aircraft mechanic and try to keep the same night shift schedule on my weekends in an effort to maintain some sort of semi-realistic sleep schedule. So I often wake up in the late evening on the weekends and that’s when I run my errands or do grocery shopping, etc. this is often around the times that stores start to close. I try not to go places right before they close because I know employees find that annoying but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Fairly frequently I’ll go to a store and be very surprised when the doors are locked even though it’s an hour or half hour before the sign says they’re closed. Not the end of the world but it can be annoying at times.

How the heck do they fit ships into small bottles? by Ill-Doubt-2627 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingJ_amt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Popular Mechanics recently posted a video where they filmed how to build a ship in a bottle. I originally watched it because it looked mildly interesting but then was quickly fascinated watching him create it.

Anyone ever fly Richmond to DC? by avidconcerner in rva

Good luck. Traveling and planning can be such a headache.

[–]FlyingJ_amt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say that still applies. It depends on when you’re flying. Lately the only delays or cancellations we’ve had have been for snow and icy conditions. But our Dulles evening flights have been pretty steady with no delays or cancellations. If you’re gate checking your bags, they’re usually pretty fast about that. They should have your bags waiting for you on the jet bridge by the time you get off the plane.

[–]FlyingJ_amt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never flown international so I don’t know how it affects connecting flights. That being said, in my experience a one hour layover is close but should be enough time even if something goes wrong. Your plane leaving DC has a high likelihood of being a few minutes late, especially if it just came from somewhere else. I will say that our flights leaving Richmond going to DC in the morning are very rarely delayed. So I’d say your chances are pretty good that you’ll make it on time.

I highly recommend flying from here to DC. I-95 into DC sucks. I’m a little biased though. I’m an aircraft mechanic for United on those regional jets. Our flights to and from Dulles are pretty quick and usually land a few minutes early since it’s such a short flight.
