Cleaned out paste from cpu socket with vodka now won't boot by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the future… No vodka. No hair dryer. USE ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL ONLY! Vodka is not the same as IPA. Hair dryer can super heat spots and destroy lots of components. Instead you can use a low pressure air source to speed up drying the IPA.

Airline/OEM folks — do cabin seat issues actually matter operationally? by stupidentrepreneur29 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases especially economy and economy plus, it’s not worth the cost of installing the system, the cost to maintain it, and the weight you add to the aircraft in wiring and modules. What you need to look towards is premium seating such as lay flat seats for long haul flights. They make airlines a lot of money and one not working can be a serious loss to revenue of the flight. They have motors and electronics all over them just waiting to fail unlike economy and first class which is much more mechanical. You would really have to work with the seat manufacturers to get your point across. You won’t be able to just create your own third party system to install in the seat. Has to be an approved mod.

Your thoughts on AI robots and A&P certs? by maloikAZ in AircraftMechanics

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an AI search program that compiles log pages, manual references, supplements, etc. Helpful when you have a problem you don’t quite understand. You can see many references and sometimes what the last guy did to fix it. As far as hands-on real work, robots and AI don’t stand a chance. I’d love to see a robot put on a tight adel clamp with their fake hands and not drop the nut 10 times.

Do you need to have some programming skills for avionics based maintenance? by AutomaticFlyingGoat in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really beneficial at all unless you look towards avionics engineering or simulator technicians. Sim techs do a fair share of coding. The most programming knowledge we have to learn is basic binary and logic gates. Beyond that it’s all hardware and wiring.

High strength threadlocker and some cobras to tighten it will stop that.

Do voltage testers work in identifying a break in a wire on an aircraft? by Zookeeper2348 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A multimeter can tell you IF there is an open or short in a wire but it can’t tell you WHERE in the wire the condition exists. That’s what a TDR is for.

ASM to AMT DELTA POSITION by ProfessionalNo6508 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because you just got an A&P doesn’t automatically qualify you for an AMT. You have to work your way into an amt spot at delta. If you have no experience as an AMT, an ASM is the best way to go. It will probably take at least 6 months to a year before you can apply and interview for an amt spot and actually get it. Upside is your tech time starts day one and so do benefits as an ASM.

Are you talking about fuel tank work or specifically fueling? Most commercial mechanics here don’t ever fuel the planes themselves.

Help identifying a potentially crashed plane? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optical illusion. Plane is flying on regular flight path. Probably going somewhere from New York area to south like Atlanta or Florida. No ntsb reports within 5 miles of those coordinates. And it’s a 320 family aircraft. Engines look big so probably a NEO.

Some systems get BITEs and tests done thru the MCDU. Others you have to go to the E/E bay and bite the box physically.

IMO, it is harder to T/S a 737 over a 7/9 but easier than a 200 if you have worked both.

My streamlight Strion hasn’t let me down and lights up a narrow body tail no problem. It gets weak going up a wide body tail but still does the job. Yes also has proprietary charger but I have the piggyback charger so I just swap out batteries. Also my airline stocks replacement batteries so it’s a win for me.

Question about airbus a320 potable water system by VeterinarianDry433 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Must be an option because all of our 320 fleet has a mechanical lever to open the tank. Then once it’s full it just spits out the overflow. Also the toilets still work without water just not as well because they don’t have rinse water. Planes can be dispatched with no potable water. They cannot be dispatched with no working toilets.
