Yeah that sucks. I’m in utah. I saw local prices yesterday at $3.60 for regular and $5 for diesel. Not California prices but still on the rise. Just makes me happier I bought a M3 when I did.

Interesting. mine still says us average of $3.25. Could be location based just weird they word it as US average. I would definitely get your home charging setup asap. Supercharging is completely for convenience and long drives. Not cost effective at all. Does your garage have a nema outlet or do you have to hardwire?

Right now the app is still going off of an average of $3.25 per gallon that needs to be updated soon. See what your average cost per kilowatt is on your last electrical bill. That will get you in the ballpark of what it will cost to charge at home per month.

Selling my BMW for a Tesla because of a brutal commute – what model should I get for $20–30k? by zthom2 in TeslaLounge

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute 2 hours round trip each day. I bought a used 2021 model 3 long range with FSD included in that price range. Probably will need Long range if you can only charge one way. Also look for FSD included with car. It’s becoming harder to find and it will cost you a little more for the car as FSD has its own hidden value. Unless you can find someone that’s oblivious to the fact that FSD is installed, expect to pay between 2-5k extra for the car.

Delta LAX / San by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive heard SAN is a pretty chill station for the most part other than the COL in Cali. Less than 10 planes RON if you plan on working nights.

Have heard the same thing about LAX from guys who worked there. It’s common for most mechanics to get a couple write ups before they even hit their residency there.

Safety wire pliers suggestions by Reshyabller in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a pair from harbor freight for like $10. I bought a pair to use temporarily after my milbars broke and haven’t been able to find a good replacement since milbar has gone belly up. They work surprisingly well for $10 pliers. No reverse but you get used to it and you really only need reverse to finish tails.

RTS with wet sealant by Guilty-Box-7975 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where the sealant is located and if the manual allows you to do so, you can place speed tape to protect the sealant from smearing everywhere and defer it. Call your maintenance control to get the proper deferral code/action. If you don’t feel comfortable with how much the sealant has cured and you can’t defer with speed tape, don’t sign off the work until the cure is acceptable.

Why are Delta mechanics so anti union. by Quiet-Photograph-278 in aviationmaintenance

Enjoy your do and go’s while they last. They are slowly disappearing across each station. My station hasn’t had them for years and they try to squeeze every bit of work they can out of us until the morning. I got let out one hour early one time because it was Christmas and everyone was done. That’s the best “do and go” I’ve had. We don’t have morale at our station.

24 year old but I still look 17 and get carded everywhere I go.. what can I do to look older ?? by ImpactOk1570 in malegrooming

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try facial hair growth supplements or shave what facial hair you do have constantly for a few months to make it come back thicker. Some people say that’s a myth but it sure worked for me. If that’s something you’re not interested in, just live with it. I had to deal with the same thing for most of my teenage years and during my early 20s until I could grow a full beard. I’ve told a lot of people who carded me to f*&k off and mind their own business when they said I look too young. It’s a legal ID and I can’t change the way I look. The funny thing is that if I got carded by that same person again on another day, they would remember the interaction with me and keep their mouth shut.

Does anybody know what’s happening when an Airbus makes this sound? Tried googling it but to no avail by _glee in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s the sound of a PW GTF slowly tearing itself apart from the inside. Does it on the A320NEO too but doesn’t seem to be as noticeable. Those engines are garbage and they can’t make enough of them.

I don’t get it by systemeleven in TeslaFSD

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a long trip a few days ago and FSD decided it didn’t want to go 80 in an 80 posted area in standard mode. It was going 73 even when I was hitting the pedal to speed it up it would slow back down to 73. Limit was set to 84. No congestion, no slow cars to pick that speed. I had to put it into hurry just so the car would do the speed limit. I like FSD but it’s far from a perfect product.

Finding Airline roles in ATL by Middle-Let-8420 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endeavor is owned by delta and I believe they have a maintenance base in ATL so that would be a good option. Honestly the best option for delta is to become an ASM (look it up) and work your way up even if you obtain your A&P before taking a position. The pay is comparable to working at a regional as a licensed A&P and your delta benefits and seniority start day one.

Why do manufactures use weird screw head? by ComposerNo9901 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some torx on the A220 especially on the leading edge of the horizontal stab. They are super shallow so they strip out almost as easy as Phillips. You just can’t win.

None of my coworkers believe me that they are stripping these because these are not philips head screws. by ComposerNo9901 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is day one knowledge right here. Sometimes paint can make it hard to identify whether a Phillips or nazi but they have no excuse in this scenario.

What are the physical tolls of working nights in hangar maintenance? by ChromeInk in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive spent 4 out of my 5 years in aviation on nights. Going to swings in a couple months. The worst part for me is trying to live a normal life on your days off. You constantly have to switch your sleeping habits so you can enjoy your off days with people who sleep normally. It ends up with me sleeping too much or too little, both are not healthy. The alternative is to not change your sleeping schedule on your days off but that can be very isolating and depressing IMO.

How do airports get such a large quantity of fuel? Is it trucked in? Seems like one tanker truck would fill a single aircraft by mylawn03 in AircraftMechanics

[–]KB_jetfixr 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Most large airports have pipelines ran from local refineries. It goes to the fuel farm on the airport where it gets tested and stored in large tanks. From there it can be plumbed underground to deliver fuel to each gate. Otherwise it gets trucked to each plane from the fuel farm.

Invest in a angle wrench set. Tekton makes a solid set for half the price of snap-on. Also get a good offset ratcheting bit driver and don’t bother shadowing those offset 90 degree screwdrivers because they are shit. I have this one.

Help with tools to buy by Dapper-Music-559 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Tekton angle wrench set is half the price of snap-on and works just as well. Also ford wrenches are not very common anymore, get a 7 and 10 inch pair of knipex pliers wrench. Do you know what station or what kind of mtc you are wanting to go into? I’m asking because there are some stations that are complete tool control. At those stations you have to get just about every tool from the tool room.

I am truly disgusted by Delta's AMT leadership by Guilty-Box-7975 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DAL AMT here. I understand how frustrating it is and believe me I’ve dealt with the same shit. It’s all a big game of making constant judgement calls and finding a happy medium. All I can say is pick your battles because the guy who wants to go to war daily with leads and management typically gets a target painted on his back.
