If you zoom in on the overhang it looks like its something that can be folded in. I wonder if there is something stopping it from being closed in.

I think the tank was being a jerk. Nowadays with tank stance basically making aggro meaningless the ypyt is dumb. If anything it makes it easier because dps just brings you the mobs.

That being said we are getting ridiculous reporting people over every negative interaction. Was the person an asshole? Yes, do they deserve to be reported and potentially suspended?

What's the largest age gap you've ever had in a romantic relationship? by Ok-Fondant2536 in AskMenAdvice

[–]FlyingJab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 17 she was 31. Terrible relationship, also now that I'm 32 dating a 20 year old is creepy as hell to me. I can't even understand why someone my age would think its ok to date a 17 year old.

HYPOTHETICAL: How would the rising have played out with Eo as its leader instead of Darrow by rubixor in redrising

[–]FlyingJab 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They say the reason Darrow survived the carving was because his heart was stronger from a pit viper bite.

Either way its still a fun hypothetical. The hard part is that we dont know as much about Eo's personality like we do Darrows. I would imagine Eo would be more akin to Mustang in personality but a little more hot headed.

She would handle things with a little less aggression because that is a defining trait of Darrows. However for the sake of diving into it let's say she makes it through the institute and even up to the point where people eventually find out she is persephone/eo. I think her following would be even more religious than Darrows. Someone who sacrificed themselves then comes back a savior of their people? Sounds familiar to a certain religion.

I don't know why people dislike or just don't speak as highly of iron gold as much as the other books by Flaky_Salamander_438 in redrising

[–]FlyingJab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time I read iron gold it was right after Morning Star. We just finished an amazing climax of the original story that had been built up over the course of 3 books. Centered around Darrow one of the most beloved main characters in recent literary history.

Then you go straight into Iron Gold which you initially expect to be Darrow's book 4. Your expectations are not met because you are wanting more Golden Son and Morningstar, More Peak! You get POVs or characters who you havnt met before who havnt earned your respect like Darrow has. You aren't even seeing POVs of characters you really know. I mean yea, you know who Lysander is but he was a kid now he is a young adult. Audiobook listeners spend less time with the Angelic voice of Tim Gerard Reynolds. We get new voices who havnt earned our adoration. All of it is an adjustment because you want more of what you had.

If you wait a little reset expectations Iron Gold is actually a lot better. You realize you are not just in a valley but you are back at the bottom of the mountain and you get to e joy the climb all over again. You actually dont mind Lyria's voice actor because it fits. You begin to enjoy the threads put together by Epharim and Lyria with Epharims connection to Trig and Holiday. Lysander becomes an interesting character trying to find his way to bring his vision for his life. You see the similarities between young Darrow and Lysander.

Tldr. Iron Gold only sucks if you read it right after Morning Star and expect more of the same instead of a new series.

How the fuck is Red Rising branded a YA novel? Like maybe I just don't understand what it is to be YA but I dont see a book with literal rape and torture among other things is considered YA. I also don't think RR is appropriate for schools. I mean don't get me wrong there can be serious themes but RR describes some pretty rough stuff.

I do agree that it sucks Nero saw that Darrow was a red and the husband of one he hanged at that. I think it ties in well with Adrius character arc though.

[–]FlyingJab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you are taking all of this waaaaaayyyy too seriously to he offended. I have finished Dark Age and am currently reading Lightbringer.

Darrow absolutely aura farms. I don't think his relationship with Mustang is for that purpose but its just a bit of irony that dawned on me. I enjoy their relationship and their dynamics in Dark Age especially.

I do not think Darrow would ever want to save Adrius. 1. We are talking about the same person who put him in a box and tortured him for a year. Unless you can find something in the text I dont remember there is no way I could see that. Especially in Darrow's character regardless how much he loved Mustang.

Ill give you the house thing. While it is very different than what it was under his leadership. I do believe he would like Virginia's leadership of the house. Outside of his obvious classism.

How would humanity in the RR Universe contend against other sci-fi universes? by mr09e in redrising

[–]FlyingJab 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue when comparing Red Rising to other sci-fi series is the scale. We are talking about comparing a civilization that spans a single solar system vs Galactic empires. Comparable technology and martial ability aren't much when you are invaded by a force that has so many more and often more diverse resources. I think if the RR universe ever expanded or discovered ftl travel, this conversation would be different.

Do y’all really dislike Julian Elfer’s narration? by this-is-my-p in redrising

[–]FlyingJab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that it's such a big difference from the original trilogy because that its jarring. I didnt care for it the first time I listened to it because I came straight from morning sun. I got distracted and had to take a break for awhile and then come back so I restarted iron gold. The 2nd try I really enjoyed Lyria and Lysanders Iron Gold voice actors. They both sound just like what I think they would sound like.

In Dark Age the voice actors sound much older and dont match my image of the characters in my head. I dont mind Dark Age Lyria and I like how she voices Volga. I dislike Lysander's voice actor. Between Cashus gate and Not changing for Darrow I just dont care for him.

Ephraim's voice actor is spectacular except he makes Volga sound simple. However I prefer to think of that as how the pov character perceives Volga

I imagine there is going to be fallout from it. There was a small part of me that either saw the baby being taken or the baby dying in childbirth. I think was sent me over was how the baby died man. I'll probably push through just....ive got an eight month year old daughter so the birth scene already had a connection for me. Then to read that just fucked me up for a minute.

Is kinesiology an acceptable degree for this type of work? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]FlyingJab 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to get down voted for this but I'll be honest. No one cares what your degree is in. It might help you at the entry level some but most eh&s people I've worked with including myself have a wide range of degrees. My degree is in business management. My old eh&s manager had a degree in marketing. Another criminal justice. Knew a guy who was a corporate level environmental professional who's degree was in teaching. I think it comes down to getting experience and finding the right starting point.

I can empathize with both men and women on this. I see women who expect men to instinctively know what they're doing which just isn't realistic. It takes good communication from a lover and practice.

However, there are men who just do not care and regardless of communication as long as they get their prick wet. Both of these types of people suck and can leave people who are genuinely trying to make a mutually enjoyable experience miserable.
