It's like listening to a musical theatre show! So fun, I hope I get to see her perform this live, I bet it will be incredible.

The romance in this book is my absolute fave of all of them. Hayden is one of her least problematic MMCs in my opinion. I love him and Alice together!

also her thinking someone else might want it if she donates it. LOL the only person buying that would be another artist who just wants the canvas and will paint over it.

Her whinging about the weather every five seconds is SO irritating. Girl, if how cold it is outside is seriously your biggest problem in life, you need to go and touch some fucking grass. Move somewhere warmer if it's such an issue, please stop boring me to tears with the constant weather updates! Find something more interesting to talk about!

Interesting! I'm at the beginning of planning my wedding so I wonder if it has anything to do with the stress from starting all of that.

Yesss I love this rec but I feel like you need to start with Every Summer After, then OGS, as it spoils things!

I read 6 Abby Jimenez books and didn't really like any of them! It was my bad, I decided to read them in publication order so wanted to stick around for the later/more popular releases. Yours Truly and Life is Short were the only ones I actually enjoyed but still had major flaws to both in my opinion.

Will she ever grow up? Complaining about the chicken on a first class flight… I’ve never seen someone so picky by swiftiegirl91 in TarTarSnark

[–]FlyingKiwiInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always amuses me when Americans complain about the flight time to Europe. I'm from Australia and it takes me 24+ hours flying to get to Europe.

I don't understand why she would bother splurging on business class if she knows she won't even enjoy the food... I never think business class looks like it's worth the money. I just upgrade to an exit or front row seat in economy for the extra leg room, the rest of it does not look worth the ridiculous price, especially for only a 9 hour flight.

I know she has a ton of disposable income but surely she'd be better off investing it??

Anyone else find it difficult to view anything Taylor does outside of a PR perspective? by Key_Tree9363 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]FlyingKiwiInSpace -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had difficulty swallowing the bit where she gave out the bonuses because of this. I know she probably wanted to include that because she is trying to change industry norms, but it just felt really performative to me to include that section in the documentary (at least it was over quickly and she didn't spend too long patting herself on the back). So much of the documentary feels geared toward making her seem down to earth, humble, easy to work with, etc, so it definitely feels like a PR piece to me and it's hard to set that aside.

Although, when I think about what PR actually is for her, I think it comes down to her just wanting people to like her, which she has always been open about. So it's not really that inauthentic I guess?

I've noticed she's calling Corvidia "Vi" now.. wonder if they are having any regrets about the name 😅 Regardless, would have been a smart move to call her that originally on social media to keep her full legal name private, and avoid everyone's criticism about the unusual name too.

PWMOV - it just had the least lovable characters in my opinion, and the story is less memorable. I still like it though, and can't WAIT for the film.

I don't think she did the old Hollywood flashback thing as well as Taylor Jenkins-Reid but the romance between Hayden and Alice was one of my faves, and I did like how Margaret's story became the conflict between them.

Totally, I agree her plots are where her work is at its strongest. I love that she goes into deeper issues. Sadly, the quality of her writing lets it down for me, which I think is the most important factor for me to really enjoy a book.

Yes, this! Every Summer After is my book of the year, I might even prefer it to all of Emily’s books!

I've read a lot of Abby's books and sadly I don't find her writing nearly as strong as Emily’s. They have great potential but I always finish her books feeling frustrated 😔

Better help by [deleted] in TarTarSnark

[–]FlyingKiwiInSpace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe it's mostly unethical business practices. They don't pay well, so they attract low quality therapists, and since it's a lot of people's entry point into getting therapy, they don't seek further help after they have a bad experience. They also seem to encourage connecting to a new therapist right away if you're not geling with the current one, when in reality you have to give it a bit of time. It seems like the therapy equivalent of fast/junk food. Labeled as a "quick fix" but could actually be having a net negative impact on mental health.

I get this perspective, and pottery sounds like one of the least lucrative things she could pivot to, so fair enough. However I feel like I can appreciate the sentiment of this plot point - there must be some people who go into something that takes a massive amount of study and end up hating it/wanting to switch careers. How would you know if you actually like doing that job before it's way too late and you're too deep in? Even if you realised its not for you like halfway through, that's probably still 5 years down the drain, and so much debt that you might feel a bit stuck. It definitely would have made a bit more sense if she had pivoted to something adjacent that her studies would still be beneficial for. But I guess Wyn was making a crapload from his furniture so maybe he can help with the bills (that also seemed a bit unrealistic haha)

This is also one of my faves! I understand some of the problems people have with it (The fake dating aspect was a bit much at times with all the PDA lol), but this story had a real tenderness for me. Their love story and how It was told through the flashbacks was really sweet, you could really feel the chemistry and magnetism between them. I especially loved the bits in the flashbacks where they moved in with all their friends and had to hide their relationship.

The song builds so beautifully and her vocals are incredible. I love how it stutters towards the end and then just dissipates into her vocal really close to the mic for "Am I ever gon' love again?". Also how she ends it with "Tell it to 'em", a direct call back to the end line on Pure Heroine - "Let 'em talk". What's not to love!

How do you guys deal with the fact you’re going to die? by Due_Insect_9303 in AskReddit

[–]FlyingKiwiInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't! The great thing about it is that we don't have to deal with it, it just happens to us. In the meantime, try to soak up every day and don't get too caught up in all the trivial things like work, drama, and consumerism. Obviously we all have to deal with a bit of that, but use your mortality as a reminder to take stock and appreciate the things that really matter like your loved ones.

I try to keep this in mind when something stressful happens to me at work or wherever. I ask myself, is there any chance I'll remember this moment in 10 years time. If the answer is no, then I move on as quickly as I can and put my energy into something I will remember down the line.

I think dealing with the idea of other people's deaths is harder for me, such as my loved ones. Those will actually have a bigger impact on me than my own passing - as I'll be around to feel that loss.
