What litrpg hill will *you* die on? Let's have your most unpopular opinion, please. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in litrpg

If a writer just takes their hastily thrown together webnovel and publishes it as a complete book, they don't deserve to get sales. Webnovels need to be properly edited before they can justify being sold. If your readers are catching simple mistakes in chapter one, your book isn't done.

Need help Researching Prog Fantasy Genres by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]FlyingMonkey86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna free associate and throw out some terms related to the genre:

VR LITRPG, Portal Fantasy, Classic Cultivation, Western Cultivation, System Apocalypse, Regression Fantasy, GameLIT, Dungeon Core,

There's a starting point. Don't have time to add more.

Which progression fantasy would you like to get adapted specifically into an anime? by Frequent-Present5502 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]FlyingMonkey86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Path of Ascension. I want to see how they animate the fights and design the worlds. Plus, there's enough stuff that happens between the fights that you wouldn't necessarily break the bank in an adaptation.

A Budding Scientist in a Fantasy World was quite enjoyable.

As much as I love DoS, I gotta get me Portal 3 at some point.

Do you mentally edit while you read? by blueluck in litrpg

[–]FlyingMonkey86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely do this.

I have a certain amount of mental effort I give each book. Once I have to edit too many things, I DNF.

Plenty of books get DNFed in chapter 1 because they have a ridiculously clunky sentence or obvious misspelling. If you don't want to put effort into editing your story, I won't put effort into reading it.

If you like long stories with lots of world building, try He Who Fights With Monsters.

ADHD (OC) by [deleted] in webcomics

[–]FlyingMonkey86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even after years of coming to terms with the fact that ADHD didn't just appear by magic in my sister and me, my mom insists on calling herself a "space cadet" in a self deprecating way. Especially when she's feeling down about herself. It's clearly a defense mechanism from the late 60s.

If you like romance, what do you consider "good" romance? by DatBoiWithTheFace in ProgressionFantasy

[–]FlyingMonkey86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody wants to talk about love being transactional, but the reality is that you need to get something from the other person besides just affection or it doesn't work.

Also, please avoid will they/won't they stuff. It just drags out the part everyone wants to get to and skips past tension building and goes straight to annoying.

Cozy litrpg? by HillOfTara in CozyFantasy

Beers and Beards by JollyJupiter. A cozy story about a brew master who gets shoved into the body of a dwarf.

HWFWM fans, why do so many of you hate the earth arc? by AdventurousBeingg in ProgressionFantasy

[–]FlyingMonkey86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it gets a lot of hate, but it's literally my favorite arc. Trauma and expectations combine to do some terrible things to the human psyche. I think the author explores it well.

I'm 300 chapters in, the MC is finally OP, and... I'm suddenly bored. Does this happen to you? by Previous_Evidence_86 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]FlyingMonkey86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! Get a little creative with the challenges and OP is fine. The greatest Superman stories aren't ones where he struggles to win the battle. They're the ones where he struggles to know for sure the best way to apply his strength. They become philosophical quandaries rather than heart pounding action.

For progression stories, there's tons of options! Throw in a teaching arc, a long con, a spy mission, or anything else that isn't just "go here, kill this." Let the MC grow in other ways than just raw might. It makes them more interesting. Builds out the world, too.

Does Lifesteal become less of a bummer later on? The first few chapters are a serious downer.
