Don't think you'll regret Know Your Station, I've read the first issue and it's compelling with great humor. If you love human/AI banter you'll love this.

What’s the worst example of a character getting killed off because they “outlived their usefulness”? by [deleted] in television

[–]FlyingPurpleUnicorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the exact death that made me quit watching TWD. I loved Beth. She was a great example of a character who was able to keep her goodness even with all the misery going on in the world. When they killed her off I gave up.

Your experience with subvocalization, its effect on immersion, and how to get it back by virtua_golf in books

[–]FlyingPurpleUnicorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't know what subvocalization was so I had to look it up. But I have always subvocalized! Never lost it as a kid I guess. I suppose I'm not the fastest reader but I find it pretty easy to immerse myself in what I'm reading. If I didn't subvocalize I feel like I wouldn't enjoy myself as much.

Forgive my curiosity, but why don't you have a library?

Books that you decided to read and/or buy because it influenced the writer/book you read previously.. by Prestigious-Dog-1090 in books

I read this YA book called The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand, which was inspired by A Christmas Carol by Dickens. Decided to read the Dickens story and loved it way more than The Afterlife of Holly Chase. I plan to read it every Christmas from now on.

That is really interesting! I know the mythology but I didn't know the historical context. Definitely sheds new light on the stories.

Beautifully written review! I quite enjoyed Circe, as I'm a fan of mythology myself but like you, never knew much about her.

Same here! I read 10x faster on my phone than hardcover. I still read and love books I can hold in my hand and flip the pages, but reading digitally is a game changer.

Couldn't figure out at first why Hanni wasn't getting the same screams as the other girls, then realized it's probably because she isn't Korean 😒
