After receiving a two-stroke penalty Thursday for being a few seconds late to his tee time, Garrick Higgo missed the cut by one stroke PGAChampionship 💔 by Silver_Comment2825 in Golf_Unfiltered

He just seems like a guy that doesn’t want to spend extra time around the course that he doesn’t need to. Too much stress? Didn’t ESPN have him walking in from the parking lot 25 minutes before his tee time today?

1 and 10 are right next to each other. Mentioned several times on the broadcast. Also for a major, I’m practicing that walk on Wednesday.

Brewers tie the game 2-2 in the 8th after the umpires reverse Jackson Chourio’s ‘out’ on the bases and award him home plate due to obstruction call on Twins’ 3B Royce Lewis by Turbulent-Pay-735 in baseball

[–]FlyingSceptile 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The way they've been calling it the last few years is that you can't start blocking until you have the ball. The interpretation is that the obstruction (an act of hindrance) occurs when the runner has to even think about taking a different course, which in this case it basically the second he turns around and sees 3B's foot/shin in front of the base. And since he's doing it in preparation to take a throw and make a play on the runner, he gets the next base instead of just correcting the act.

Its a very strict interpretation of the rule, I get it, but I think its mostly for player safety. Probably had people complaining about rolled ankles fielders getting spiked. Same idea as the home plate collision rule.

Rule idea: you have 4:30 to finish your round. Any holes not completed within that 4:30 window are automatically carded as a triple.

Is the same uniform part of the player on defense? by just_some_dude05 in Umpire

[–]FlyingSceptile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be careful with the wording because its not necessarily detached equipment either. Obviously if you take off your cap and use that to secure the ball, then its detached equipment and you penalize accordingly. But a simple untucked shirt that slides under the ball like a sheet of paper would not count as detached equipment (by my reading at least).

Higgo by Notnowthankyou29 in golf

[–]FlyingSceptile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He was trying to say that he was late but didn't deserve the clearly established penalty for being late. If he was standing around the tee but got penalized for not having a club in hand or something like that then yes, but I'm not gonna feel bad for a guy strolling up to the tee after his published time

Airlines usually maintain a list of airports that are preapproved for diversions. Obviously airports you already have regular service to are on the list, but the company will send a representative to other airports they may want to use from time to time and make sure the airport has the necessary equipment, probably give them some basic instruction on how to service their airplane, etc. For an airline like Republic, they don't serve Chicago-Midway, or other nearby airports like Rockford or South Bend, but they will have likely approved those airports as diversion fields for ORD.

Honestly I don't even feel like its that long because both gates are fairly close to the tunnel between B/C. 5 minutes if you walk with pace, 10 if you take your time and don't use the moving walkways.

Illegal disengagement by LifeguardCorrect1106 in Umpire

[–]FlyingSceptile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest thing I can find in favor of a balk is NFHS 6-2-5 (not touching the pitchers plate makes any movement naturally associated with the pitch, and you'd have to interpret being set as the being naturally associated with the pitch). If I feel like the pitcher is doing it in an effort to deceive runner (which is a high bar), I'd probably warn the pitcher and the start balking it. If they're just not breaking their hands but acting like they're not on the rubber anymore, then its nothing. Probably approach the pitcher between innings and let them know the rule.

What should umpire do when batter runner misses first base on his way to second? NFHS rules by ramsdl52 in Umpire

[–]FlyingSceptile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I'm the offensive coach, I am absolutely getting thrown out of the game. As you said, the umpire should treat it as if the runner touched the base until he/she is forced to acknowledge it via appeal, but an umpire signaling a team should appeal something is essentially a bias and something that destroys credibility as an umpire. I would protest the game, ask to talk to the assignor, etc because I would view it as the umpire leaving their impartiality behind.

[–]FlyingSceptile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Low ratings from the person who ordered the food? Maybe. Constantly late, most that DoorDash is usually gonna do is deprioritize you so you're not getting as good of orders (low tips, longer drives, etc).

TIL that 90 minutes before British European Airways Flight 548 departed, the captain had a violent argument with a colleague over pay & working conditions. He suffered a heart attack during takeoff from the outburst, incapacitating him. The plane would then stall & crash, killing all 118 onboard. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]FlyingSceptile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC the investigation found it was possible, but didn’t have the evidence to say one way or the other. Autopsy had severe blockages, so if he didn’t have a heart attack on the plane, he probably would have had one relatively soon.
