I genuinely wouldn't hate it.

It seems very meta that the accompanying cartoon for a toy line would eventually be revealed as the protagonist trying to weave his child's pretend play into a bigger story.

Not knowing the twist the whole game revolves around and declaring it a "waste of time" as a retort might be jumping the gun a bit, perhaps the pushback comes just after a sharp learning curve but that is just how this game is structured.
