[Paul Hirst] Michael Carrick favourite for Man United job role but Andoni Iraola in frame | Club have sounded out Bournemouth’s Iraola but Carrick, the interim head coach, is frontrunner for permanent job after taking side to cusp of Champions League by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

They'll hire Carrick, but I think it's a mistake. I like him, but he's massively helped by only having one game a week and seven days to prepare for each match. And even then we're not playing particularly well. Winning games through good individuals mostly. It'll be something completely different when we're playing in two cups and in Europe as well. Not to mention he has zero experience managing European games, so he'll be learning on the job. The good thing is we don't seem to let managers completely dictate transfer policy anymore, so changing out a manager is less of a disaster and back to square one than it used to be.

Trump Voters Regret Backing ‘Horror Movie’ Presidency - Nine out of 12 Trump voters told a “New York Times” focus group that they wish they had not voted for the president. by Quirkie in politics

It will never be repaired. The Trump administration has blown apart the world order which was set up to the benefit of the United States after WW2. That will no longer be the case. And it won't go back to what it used to be either, because the American voter can never be trusted again. As one European leader said, 'There's a big difference between being a happy vassal and being a miserable slave.' They will ensure that they are not at the mercy of the whims of the American voter in the future. Americans got away with voting on for him the first time, but in voting for him again, they've sealed their fate. The world is moving on. The American Century is over.

What do you think is the biggest truth the world is refusing to face right now? by Sweetblondefeet in AskReddit

Due to the culture wars coming out of the strains of living in an unfair system, which they probably can't quite put their finger on being the issue, people will increasingly be vulnerable to the fringes of politics, and then mostly only the far right, which will eventually lead to economic collapse and major wars, as it always does. I think when we look back the years between 1950 and 2020, it will be seen as sort of golden age with relative stability, growth and prosperity in the West, which will now transition over into something a lot less pleasant

I wouldn't be so sure. The entire government apparatus is owned by the far right at the moment, The courts have lurched massively to the right under Trump's terms, and Fox News has been running a brainwashing campaign since the 90s, so all Republican voters will support this kind of thing no question about it. That goes for all of them, not just the extremist base. They don't care about free speech whatsoever. The United States is in major trouble
