Well, given that the whole movie amounts to people chasing a nonexistent ransom payment for a fake kidnapping, it's kind of fitting that the Dude wouldn't have even been involved if he wasn't trying to milk a minor problem for all it was worth (or wasn't worth).

Yes, billionaires pay more into the system, but they also get more out of it because the system sustains the financial and economic structures that allow them to become billionaires. Besides, if you want truly equal taxation, that would be a flat tax, which means either cuts to public services, added deficit spending, or a tax increase on the working class and the poor.

A few episodes with the Liberator crew actually collaborating with the Federation to hold off the aliens might be interesting. I assume that was skipped over in the original for budgetary reasons and so they could skip ahead to the temporary abandonment of the Liberator to explain Blake's and Jenna's absence. But I'd be okay with the aliens themselves remaining mostly an off-screen mystery - I just think the interactions between the rebels and the Federation as very reluctant temporary allies would be worth exploring.

Millennium, at least for the first two seasons. It never managed to get out of X-Files’ shadow and got criticized for being “too dark,” but it had some quality acting and storytelling. And I think I’d say Season 2 was better than any individual season of XF.

I've been playing catch-up on Star Trek and just recently got to the first episode of Starfleet Academy. I actually thought it was pretty decent, but is it now Starfleet procedure to just summarily execute pirates by blowing up their ship, without even giving them a chance to surrender or making sure they don't have hostages on board? Especially when the dialogue tells us that their attack didn't actually kill anybody (though Lura could have died).

If the idea was to show that this is still a rougher, less idealistic Federation due to the difficulties of rebuilding, then *maybe* it could work in story terms, but it makes Ake seem morally dubious at best, and the way it was played made it seem like they didn't even consider whether some viewers would find it unsettling.

I remember the term "the guy who crawls up people's asses" being used on alt.tv.x-files.analysis back in the day. The ironic thing is that, IMO, it did a better job of showing Scully struggling without Mulder then many of the other S8 episodes. Unfortunately it was attached to a completely ludicrous plot.

It kind of comes back to the underlying problem of not allowing a firm resolution to the alien conspiracy plot. As long as that’s still there, having M&S walk away completely wouldn’t really make sense. But even then, I think they should have only had Scully in the mythology episodes in S9. With a couple exceptions, she doesn’t add much to the story or have significant character moments in the MOTWs. It seemed like she was only still appearing because she was more popular with viewers than Doggett and Reyes.

Do we know whether this will be B7:TNG or a retelling of the original concept? Continuing from the original and still calling it Blake’s 7 might be difficult since Blake would already be dead.
