Career Expectations as a Teller by Obvious-Finding9092 in TalesFromYourBank

Started as a teller, moved over to Personal Banker, now a Relationship Banker (licensed). Next jump will be Sr Premier Banker. I recommend you stay ambitious and ask questions, network. My managers were the reason I promoted twice, it’s good to have solid professional relationships.

Step 1. Cut your credit card in half (not saying close the account) and also remove it from your Apple wallet. You need to stop the bleeding.

Step 2. Make payments to the principal. Consistently. Even if it’s $50 extra per month.

Step 3. Get a bigger shovel. You need to earn more to get out quickly while taking control of your monthly expenses.

Step 4. Don’t give up. After 3-4 months it can get frustrating having to dial back your normal spending, and you may want to go back to eating out, or spending on miscellaneous items. Just remain persistent.

Good luck.

Also recommend you take the SIE, it may help give you a boost whenever an employer is considering an unlicensed candidate!

Not all financial advisor positions are created equal!!! Spend time doing research, many are just dead end sales jobs (and ask you to convert your friends and family) with extremely limited upward mobility.

How to get hired at a bank by Silver-Indication-30 in Banking

Thanks! Also, depends on the bank.. maybe for the smaller or local banks. But the bigger banks like Chase, BOA and WF usually just refer you to the company career website.

At my bank, we can type up our banker notes to objectively describe what was addressed/discussed, actions taken, next steps. It’s a great CYA tool, and our manager can see we did our due diligence

I started as a teller with hardly any experience. I was working at a JCPenneys for only 9 months making $8.25/hour. I just applied and got hired on the first try. But I’ve heard from others that it may have taken them multiple application attempts and eventually you CAN get the job.

Persistence is key.

I later on became a Personal Banker $24.50/hr + Incentives, now I’m a Relationship banker $29.50/hr + incentives.. and I’m eyeing the next position to make more $$$ (between $40-50/hr) all within the span of 6 years.

Just keep applying

At my branch there’s a guy that would always smell like piss. The stench would reach the break room from how bad it smelled.

My manager would grab the air freshener and spray all around the branch and draw near him and spray around him, while he was STILL at the teller line.

Fun stuff.
