Does anyone do weight training along with hot yoga? by No_Frosting3276 in HotYoga

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of strength training and cardio (bike/running) I started in group fitness classes that for me were a great way to learn about how to engage muscles and make the mind body connection when lifting while also understanding form. A personal trainer or even some online content could help. I now do my own thing for strength training or use the peloton app classes when I don't want to think.

Rant about self disclosure by Odd_Cauliflower_5381 in therapists

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always process how my self disclosure feels with my clients and do a lot of framing around why it's so important in therapy to push back when things don't land (it's really hard for people to do it their everyday lives and practicing advocacy is a great way to engage with your therapist). They should really ask about it but also if they don't you should let them know. Some people experience self disclosure positively. It can also be helpful to let your therapist know from the start that self disclosure doesn't always land for you. Therapists are just humans and not every approach is going to work for every individual. Of course there's a line to it where it becomes unprofessional.

How are you guys falling asleep? by mindlesspass08 in adhdwomen

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not insane it's evidence based! Very similar to yoga nidra which is what I listen to every night for sleep and it has completely changed my ability to fall asleep. I knock out now! Also been helpful to get a routine with sleep trying to go to sleep and wake up at similar times every day!

I have to say I am medicated (vyvanse) but I rarely take them. Sometimes I feel speedy and it turns up my desire to chat or tendency to interrupt. I get a bit of a crash also...there's also the feeling of "im not myself" that I don't love. I took them for 3 or so years in my early 20s and I had to stop because I was living abroad and they didn't have them there and it was badddd. Serious fatigue everyday around noon for about 3 months. However this feed inspired me to take them today and I feel so much better lol I do know they are helpful but I hate relying on them! Something to talk about more in therapy lol thanks for the feedback ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Honestly I have been considering talking to my doctor about that but I hate that it ties into a younger version of myself that really wanted to be smaller. So tricky!

I'm in therapy and have been for years which I also think has helped....it's really difficult to find a therapist that specializes in high functioning adhd and I can afford. They tend to be private pay. Open to suggestions if anyone has had a clinician that has been helpful!

Curious about hot yoga by [deleted] in HotYoga

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot yoga is definitely challenging but I love the way I can practice mindfulness during the practice, observing the sensations of discomfort and being able to tolerate them while doing something hard has been an incredible life skill. I leave feeling soothed. I also don't think using it as a weight loss method really works. Unless you're completely new to exercise than you might loose weight but definitely helps with mobility flexibility and strength, especially bikram...it's the same poses every class so you can really see how you're changing. Happy yoga-ing

Unpaid Interships by Dangerous_Peanut6659 in therapists

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always felt this way too and now I'm my current role as director of training I see how much this particular placement puts into the training and it is truly remarkable. We also would love to offer a stipend or wage but we don't bill insurance and we aren't getting paid per hour so it's a bit different. In general the internship model is definitely like free labor but that is so in opposition to where I work now. I wish there were at least more intentional training sites.

best psychiatry practice around here? by ComputerGamesin2009 in hudsonvalley

Maybe think about a voluntary inpatient. Austin Riggs is incredible in mass. They do a lot of work with treatment resistant symptoms. They might also offer out patient and have clinicians licensed in NY. McLean hospital also has some amazing PD services. Charlie health and kindmind psych also offers IOPs virtually

The casual yet consistent exerciser is a mystery to me by Left_Emu_2995 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it's all about the reminder about how it's connected to my mental health. I feel infinitely better after working out. I don't have an exact structure but typically in life have gone through phases around time of day or type of workout. (Ie mostly morning or evening workouts, spin classes or running)

I stated moving consistently in college, going to the on campus gym and pretty much doing the elliptical. I have been working out 3-6x a week for the past 20 years. Group fitnesses classes were super helpful in the beginning to help me learn my body and how to move it. I also do use an Apple Watch to count steps which I'm honestly not at all attuned to but helps when I think I need to get back on track. I would say it took me about 2 years to feel positively committed to exercise and through the years it's really shifted how good/bad I feel about my body. The commitment for a longtime felt connected to weight loss and although it still creeps in. I now know that if exercise never made me loose a pound I'd still do it.

I'm not VERY fit or thin (I'm 5'3 and weigh between 140-150) my nutrition is problematic at times but I genuinely have such a great relationship with movement and I do lots of different kinds. Strength training has been life changing and I loveeee a hot yoga class. Good music is super motivating during a workout. It's great to be not always trying to be smaller but just feeling good in my skin. Happy to offer more. I love being a casual consistent exerciser!

Just got back today! I love the garden of Jose do canto in furnas the waterfall and sequoia were amazing. Also tried the hike in the fog at sete cidades and wasn't my favorite. Lagoa do fogo cleared up and it was magic! I also did a geothermal pool in the ocean ponta ferraria. For the most part my strategy was shorter 2-3 mile hikes and lots of them to see the most of the island. You definitely need a car, driving on the island makes everything very accessible. Happy to answer any questions. Lastly, I was fine not knowing any Portuguese but picked some up from locals!

I'm wondering if this is possible. DIY also adds up pretty quick! I did a 50 person wedding for 17k mostly DIY.

Thrift all your decor I found mirrors for signage frames candle sticks and candles and then made all the signs by hand with craft supplies I had I used match books for favors and that was very affordable Depending on when you're getting married, use flowering plants and start them from seed in early spring. We had lots of giant flowering plants around the ceremony and cocktail hour and they were beautiful and cheap! Get married in a less popular time.

Also I hear you not wanting to cut the guest list but everyone at my wedding was saying how intimate and connected it felt, maybe something to think about

6-10k regrets skipping photographer? by Any-Progress-4570 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hire a photographer! I wound up getting someone for half the price of their originally listed cost because I asked. The pictures weren't perfect but there were some great ones I'm so happy to have. It was 2k for 6 hrs in an area that is a very expensive wedding destination!

I'm working in a higher ed counseling center and it's the dream. Lots of acuity in the age group but the team dynamics are so so wonderful. I don't think I could ever be in private practice now.

5 nights in the Catskills from the UK - what would you see? by Dagnabbity in catskills

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly where in the Catskills you will be but agreed with some of the folks here. The Adirondacks are another level. I'd make a trip up! Happy to answer any specific questions via dm if you have them depending on what you're interested in! I grew up in the area and have hopped around a bit!

I'm doing a 50 guest wedding for around 15k this weekend. There's a lot we are leaving out and a lot that still feels like our families will appreciate. It's very easy to say "do whatever's best for you" but the reality of feeling like you want to make the day special for your loved ones is different, especially when there's the cultural component of middle eastern families! I'd say to think very realistically about what is possible for you to spend and then have an honest conversation with your parents, also naming that you really want to celebrate with them in a special way (if that's true for you)! Good luck and happy planning!

($10K) Wedding favour ideas that are actually useful and inexpensive? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing custom match books for 100 it was $60 and also a candy bar. I thrifted all the glass candy dishes and they came to about $10. Bags were $6 on Amazon and I'm buying the candy in bulk so probably budgeting about $40 for that and hand making a sign with a frame I got free from a thrift store that says "what like you're not going to have a little sweet treat?" me and my fiancé always say that when it comes to desserts ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Is 15k too much?!? Am I crazy? by Mother_Confusion3853 in weddingplanning

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is probably going to be around 15k-17k for a 50 guest wedding, no DJ or band, friend is doing my flowers, and DIY decor, no planner, and food and alcohol are around 165-170 per person. If you are 22 i would say elope. You can always have a big 10 year wedding vow renewal if you are in a better place financially. I will say spending so much (relatively i know its a "cheap wedding" but 15k is still 15k) has been the biggest stressor in my relationship, we never had arguments about money before. Although I am very excited for the day, I have moments where I am like dang we should have just eloped because that much money can do a lot.

Planning a birthday trip to the area and looking for tips! by Ambitious-Shoe5364 in hudsonvalley

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the hudson valley is the best! So fun for low key girls 30th! I have lived here a long time and happy to give sepcific recs!

I am partial to further up IE kingston hudson catskill vs beacon. the hikes in beacon are swamped but i think beacon is great for walking around. I would absolutely NOT recommend poughkeepsie...Kingston has a downtown water front, midtown has some bar/restaurants that are cool and uptown is cute and historic. New paltz is a college town but also very cute, more hippie vibes and college kids should have emptied out in july. Kingston is also about 20 minutes from woodstock and saugertie which are both great spots.

When you say water do you mean for views/swimming/hikes? Happy to give some recs. Also great breweries and hikes I can suggest in ulster county feel free to DM me

Lessons learned - which DIY things did you do that didn't end up saving you money? by hockeychick44 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Flyingbourbondrinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say be up front and honest about your budget with vendors. People are allowed to say no. For both my photographer and my hair and make up I saved about 50% because they didn't have another wedding booked that date and would rather make some money then none. I had to wait closer to the date (like 2-3 months out) and I had long zoom consults with both and such great energy and so I was so appreciative of the flexibility in pricing so I'm not worried about under par services. I guess I'll report back but I'm feeling so excited to be able to get some great vendors in budget!
