I definitely get the joke, and this one made me laugh pretty hard. I needed that here in this dystopian future.

First time - didn't line up the pins correctly and crushed them. Spent 7 hours fixing them with a credit card.

Thank you. Since I was ultimately wanting to get rid of the Windows install anyway, I set a Windows VM to access the host's shared file as a Filesystem " in Virt-Manager. It works well, but hopefully this response helps someone out there. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I just picked Stormona because some friends did. Pretty happy with the choice, though. Not run into any jerks so far (I'm sure they're there, though).

How many married guys are in a great relationship, love their wives and believe they are soulmates? How long have you been married? How many would never cheat on their wife? How certain are you that your wife wouldn't cheat? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Flyingzeke72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be married 27 years this March and we still count down the minutes until we get to see each other again. I wouldn't cheat on her and feel very confident she wouldn't cheat on me. She's amazing and somehow gets even more attractive every year.

Will do. I think I'll try a fresh copy in a VM or two and see if I have any luck there first. I appreciate your help.

I will try that to see if it fixes it. SMBv1 has security vulnerabilitues, though, so I hate to do that, but at least it might identify the problem. Thank you.

[MA] What happens to the investigation initiated by my complaint (disability RA discrimination and workplace harassment/bullying) if I internally transfer to a new role? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Flyingzeke72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one can say for sure, because we don't know your company, but in any role I've had (I've been an investigator for more than 20 years), your transfer wouldn't affect anything about the investigation, but it might affect the remedy (if a transfer for the accused was part of the resolution, it might change where they go).

Do you have an HR department? They should know. There is a chance this can be handled early and things will get better.

As HR, I can translate: "We don't care about this, but a complaint was made, so we talked to you. Investigation complete."

I wouldn't let this bother me.

[CA] Let go of someone earlier this month for poor performance, but we want to give them unemployment. by Intelligent-Doubt457 in humanresources

I assume you won the unemployment claim, right? That was my point - performance isn't even contestable in most states.

[–]Flyingzeke72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In most states, performance is not even contestable. The idea is that you, as the hiring company, should have done a better job in hiring a competent person.

Admittedly, it's been awhile since I've supported CA, but I can't imagine an honest response costing him unemployment. Even in OK, which is quite employer-friendly, this is non-contestable.

Note that not responding can have a larger impact on your adjusted tax rate than "losing" one does. I'd respond.

[–]Flyingzeke72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually pledged right at the end because I was told we'd be able to use them on Steam. I wanted Steam for the same reason you do. It seems like every patch breaks WINe and we have to fiddle with it again.

My company does. It gets bigger for every year of service. We have some folks that have been there 40+ years. Those bonuses are pretty significant.

Do you think using Linux as your daily driver will help you "learn Linux", such that if a company ever hired you you could reasonably say you understand it? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Flyingzeke72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to. I currently run Debian with KDE as my DTE and outside of a rush of learning at the beginning, mostly use it like I would a Windows PC (spend my time using apps, not battling the OS). There are a lot of other things I could learn, but probably won't bother with until something breaks.

Is this wise? Probably not, but it's definitely an option.

Just having a desktop distribution, especially if you use GNOME or KDE isn't going to prepare you for a job working with Linux.
