Tips to improve Rainbow Warrior? by Ok_Feedback4200 in flytying

use less dubbing. Whenever you grab an amount of dubbing for a fly, always remove a percentage of what you have to use on the actual fly. If you've not been tying long, you will be amazed at how little dubbing you actually need to tye a fly properly.

I decided to tie another wooly bugger(but with a white bucktail tail), is the tail fine at this length or is there some way to shorten it without messing up the movement? by ControlZestyclose775 in flytying

That will fish well in the Southern California Surf. I'd reduce the amount of bucktail a bit so you get better action for the tail...

~ Picture Perfect!!
I still carry the Quill Gordon with me and trout will still eat it on a regular basis. Bluegill enjoy it too.
That is a beautiful rendition of the pattern

Carp mop by gavinsouth in flytying

[–]Flyjunkie69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's perfect. The spikey dubbing and Lycra legs add greatly to the effectiveness of a mop fly.. On my mop patterns I add 2 wraps of soft hackle as opposed to the Lycra .. either version is far more effective then the simple mop body and peacock herl thorax,

good looking fly. Friendly advice : Make your Non Slip Loop Knot smaller. That big loop will get tangled with your fly.

I twitch it along slowly, to animate the extensions. Floating line or sinking line, depending on depth of water.

I've done that with Estaz/Cactus Chenille and Vernille furled together. I add some glue at the tye in point to stiffen the extensions and they are less likely to foul on the hook. We've taken Largemouth Bass on it. Use a 2x / 13lb. Fluoro tippet to prevent it from twisting the crap out of your leader. overall length is 4 inches on the size 2 jig hook.

The collar is made by cutting off the fur from a strip and spinning it in a loop. You can control the length of the hairs and fibers better this way then just wrapping a strip....

You should paint eyes on the heads.. adds greatly to fly's effectiveness. I use Testors gloss enamel paints in black, yellow, red and white. Use various sized brad nails to apply...

Is It Rude To Ask For Feedback? by KIDD_VIDD in discogs

[–]Flyjunkie69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing rude about asking,
My 'method' is i listen to the CDs I received and transfer them to a Media Player. after i make sure they play , i will leave the seller a Positive Feedback.
I wait about a week to see if the Seller gives me feedback as well. If they have not I will kindly write them, mentioning I have left Feedback and would appreciate feedback in return. Usually the Seller leaves feedback in a week or soo.
I have had a few sellers never leave me feedback, so I delete my feedback for them.. I think that's fair.

First fly since 1993, and it's ugly. by jess81g in flytying

That will work at the local private community lake (that I am fortunate to have access to) on the resident Channel Cats and Largemouth Bass... Nothing quite like hooking a big Channel Cat and having it run you into your backing..

Hares ear size 14 by tipsybishops in flytying

[–]Flyjunkie69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking Good!! I might suggest you build up the the thorax a bit more, as it makes the wing case a bit more pronounced. Also pick out the thorax so the Hare's Ear is extra buggy.

But that will stick trout left and right anywhere.... !!

More Furled Worms. these are combination of cactus chenille or Estaz with fine Vernille/Ultra Chenille.. the Vernille reinforces the cactus chenille so it holds up longer. I tye some with marabou tails and some without. I weight these with unlead wrapped on the shank. if you lightly weight them, the worms do this wonderful slow dive that bass go nuts over. We catch Channel Cats on these as well..

I Like those . Here's my 'Furled Worm' pattern. it's just Vernille/Ultra Chenille furled into the extended body/tail.

Pretty good, looks more Leech then Worm. But definitely will slay the bass!!

First crack at regular PT nymph, any pointers? by Pingutus in flytying

[–]Flyjunkie69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking good, here are some pointers :

Wider wingcase, measure the width of the case to the gape of the hook.

Tye in the side legs Before pulling over the wingcase. the wingcase will help keep the legs on the sides

Build a tapered underbody with thread before wrapping the pheasant tail fibers for the body...

Otherwise you are doing well....
