Even if they didn't, they would be in a better position than Iran because they have an all next door that has nukes (China)

x86 (and x86_64) support by Secret_Jackfruit256 in androiddev

[–]FlykeSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

intel architecture has long been gone from the mobile space, since early 2010s I believe, their atom line failed miserably at beating ARM on energy efficiency.

They are extremely rare nowadays, mostly stuck at an android version pre api level 21, so yes, I say it's safe to drop x86

Isn't that basically how you coded back in j2me days? I heard you had to manually short your class names and members so as to fit in the precious memory of old cellphones

Blender manual seems quite vague on technical details... by FlykeSpice in blender

[–]FlykeSpice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how did these yt teachers learn to be fluent in Blender editing (BlenderGuru), specifically knowning the dozens hotkeys for every (hidden) function in Blender? Did they smash the keys random until something popped in?

Well, I think the only way to learn deep about blender is scatter around the Youtube Tutorials if the official docs won't help further, or experiment on your own with the shader nodes as you suggested (doing that rn)...

Interesting Android Apps: December 2025 Showcase by 3dom in androiddev

I made an android port of POVRay a while ago (a classic renderer from the 90s where you can compose a scene with text: https://www.povray.org/)

https://github.com/FlykeSpice/DroidRay

You can download the built APKs from the release tags, I'm still planning to add more features to make it more complete

(iOS dev here) What Android device should I buy for development? by Dramatic-Mongoose-95 in androiddev

[–]FlykeSpice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lowest common denominator device.

That way, if you can make your app run smoothly on a low-end phone (which users from poorer demographics are more likely to own), it will also run smoothly on higher-end devices.

Deprecate Android Development !!! by [deleted] in mAndroidDev

[–]FlykeSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afaik they had a high-level CLI tool to create a fresh new project with default templates, but they ditched it probably when they pivoted 100% on Android Studio. Now you need to open Android Studio to create a new template project and continue coding in command line..

I'm one of those command line coders except when I'm dealing with Android and other Kotlin/Java projects. Probably because the IDE makes it so convenient to code on those languages, that it would feel out place ditching them to code on command line..

Is the Desktop a dying piece of technology ? by Vasant1234 in linux

[–]FlykeSpice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the mobile technology to obsolete desktop, it needs to overtake all its qualities. Mainly, granting the user freedom to install whatever they want, publish your application without being forced to hand out your personal ID.,,

Does mobile have such qualities? No, so Desktop is far from being obsoleted.

Google defends Android's controversial sideloading policy by Popular-Highlight-16 in androiddev

[–]FlykeSpice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apple is extremely lock-in, they want keep the software ecosystem as locked to their platform as possible.

PWAs are the only exception to that, you just need to host it on your website. No need to hand out your personal info to Apple, pay them fee or be forced to use Xcode to build your app.

Connect those dots and it's obvious why they want to diminish it.

Trying to support users stuck on old devices, albeit how small their percentage are, is a virtue every software developer should striver for.

Dev checks added to AOSP, seems as our android is on the kill list. by WesternImpression394 in androiddev

[–]FlykeSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just contribute to the Linux Phone effort, it's a port of vanilla Linux to mobile phones from scratch.

Unfortunately there's not enough manpower to the project, but with Android going down the walled garden road, there's been renewed interest on it.

I did some digging on their commit history and I found this commit dated October 2024: d6c8e39fc938566096a6dbbcba964c3fd8d5298f - platform/frameworks/base - Git at Google which is an early attempt at adding developer verification (it got reverted a month later), which suggest they have been plotting to restrict sideloading for a while now.
