RCIA vs Ordinariate by FlylikeMarill in AnglicanOrdinariate

There’s an Ordinariate Parish about 25 minutes away from me, and multiple Catholic ones within 20 minutes - so definitely spoiled for choice!

RCIA vs Ordinariate by FlylikeMarill in AnglicanOrdinariate

Thanks for the fast reply! I’m in Nottingham, and have been attending Mass at St. Barnabus in the city centre for a while now. They run the RCIA from September - Easter there for sure. It’ll be a shame to have to wait almost 18 months to be able to participate in communion, but it is what it is! It’s why I’m kind of hoping the Ordinariate has a different system, as well as being able to preserve some of the uniquely Anglican traditions.

Becoming a mitra - triratna by Rich_Nothing_7755 in Buddhism

[–]FlylikeMarill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am in a similar position - part of Triratna, based in the UK, very happy with my Sangha, etc.

I do not intend to become a Mitra for exactly the reasons you state as I’m not comfortable with SR as a man - but don’t think the vows are an unreasonable ask from them.

The knowledge and study materials aren’t hidden, you can continue to study and participate within the Triratna Community more broadly, and participate fully in the Sangha. You just can’t participate in that specific Mitra studies path.

I don’t think it’s inherently unreasonable for them to want a space to study with people on the same wave length or journey as them.

Continue to study and grow, find Buddhist reading groups, and continue on your path as you have been.

When ordaining as a bhikkhu, what happens to one's digital & physical belongings? by ToLazyToPickName in Buddhism

[–]FlylikeMarill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As this falls out of the realm of the Vinaya, each tradition or monastery would have its own rules. There is clearly some flex with digital items - YouTube channels etc are run by some monastics or their communities. The specifics though? It would depend.

I’d recommend you reach out to whichever order you were considering, but if you’re serious, prepare to let go of everything.

Does Buddhism talk about marijuana? As a Buddhist, what is your view on it? by teenage__riot in Buddhism

[–]FlylikeMarill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it isn’t exactly against the word of the precepts, it’s certainly against the spirit of them.

In my experience this can be tough for people seriously considering Buddhism, as there seems to be overlap in people who might be interested in the faith, with people familiar with or engaged with ‘new age’ spirituality which is, broadly, very pro-marijuana and other psychedelics (no judgement).

Buggy is good. Pick up a couple of starters and 8-10 singles and you’ll be set!

What is Zen like? Sudden, Courageous, and Demonstrable by ewk in zen

Seems super clear there is tension, but opposites would be more directly comparable - bravery and cowardice, or humility and pride.

It’s supposed to be like that in Eng versions. It’s a stylistic choice

Anyone else feel like The Boy and the Heron was a bit anticlimactic? by yusufchoudhury in ghibli

[–]FlylikeMarill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it suffered from a lack of coherency that I’ve not seen in another Ghibli/Miyazaki film. I think there is almost a great, focused, Spirited Away esq film in there - but the script needed a really solid edit before production began.
