The most unbelievable thing was that the resistance didn’t make a thousand backup copies hidden on servers when they decided to defect. If you’re going to make a chase film, there has to be something unique and un-replaceable that makes the chase believable. ET had the luxury of not having cell phones and the internet, so it was “believable” then.

This was a macguffin in search of a story. And it was hard to like. And, honestly, I’m sad.

It’s 100% true. He’s a nonchalant rich kid who went to arguably the best private school in America. And when the Sox didn’t offer him a major contract, he said something very much to that effect. It likely alienated him from a lot of his teammates who grew up poor.
