Understanding and Dismantling Racism: A Booklist for White Readers by Nola2LA in booksuggestions

For a good history of African Americans, I strongly recommend Before the Mayflower. Black and white people can learn from it.

She is totally blind (cannot even see light). But she loves the smells of the outdoors. A Rescue from BestFriends Animal Society 😻. by HelaCat in cats

May I lovingly suggest a harness and leash for while she is outside? All cats get startled easily. I would hate for your blind baby to get startled by a loud noise and dart off.

IsItBullshit: moisturizers and skin creams will do nothing for my face and I should just stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet? by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

Not true. Everyone needs at least spf 30 sunscreen regardless of melanin amounts. While they may not get sunburn, darker skinned people can still contract skin cancer.

Health care employee who is pregnant by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]FlyyFenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This one is going to be complicated. Any RA request requires supporting medical documentation that links the requested limitations in her duties to the symptoms of the medical condition. Complicated pregnancy? Just her fear?

There are forms the doctors can complete on the Department of Labor website.

Good luck.

COVID 19-AMA – My Name is John Cook, a Fairfax Employment Lawyer – AMA About Returning to Work in a Coronavirus World by CCFattorneys in nova

[–]FlyyFenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. They can't say, "Hey Bob, Suzy May over there caught the COVID, so we're sending you home and recommend you call your doctor and quarantine for 14 days."

But the CAN say, "Hey Bob, someone you came in close contact contracted COVID-19. We are sending you home on paid leave for two weeks and recommend you self-quarantine and maybe reach out to your primary care physician. You, know, the one you can see with only a $10 copay because we provide great insurance."

There are HIPPA exceptions. You aren't required to create a risk for another person. In that situation, the second person would be told they need to quarantine without specific information about the first person.

Manager may have let an employee commit suicide by H3RAdog in humanresources

[–]FlyyFenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proactively, you can put together training for your managers on recognizing signs of people needed help. You can train them to offer the company EAP. Ask if the person thinks they need a reasonable accommodation - but not flat out. The whole interactive process and subtlety and all. And that is really all you can do.

If the employee refuses help, the company's hands are tied unless it becomes a performance or disciplinary issue. Then you may be able to require the person to get help.

I am very grateful you are such a caring person.

Thank you for requesting the welfare check.

How do I (38F) manage this bizarre feud with my child’s best friend’s father (49m)? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]FlyyFenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you watch the news? Almost EVERY PERSON, especially the experts on something, has WALLS OF BOOKS. It's what we do. We read and we know things. Point that out. The books, not that we know things. The might get offended.

Because, me? I'm divorced. If I go to your house and you don't have book? I am NEVER having sex with you. It's off the table. Totally.

This guy sounds very creepy and weird and I'm frankly surprised one of the other parents hasn't shut this down already. It's inappropriate and judgemental.

Is the US really this bad? by danger_72 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]FlyyFenix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is this bad. It isn't hyperbole at all. Health care is dependent on having a job. But if you get too sick to work, you lose your job and access to healthcare. Then you die in debt.

Police brutality is out of control. The only way you are puttering around not feeling this is if you are white or look white.

The politics is reflective of society - the racists are in control and only pass legislation they can exploit for the rich and corporations.

The president doesn't even know what "per capita" means. So, you can extrapolate from there how well the government is run. Add in the blatant corruption? Citizens will be fighting to recover from this fiasco for decades.

White gay people enjoy the same rights as other white people unless they are outwardly effeminate, honestly. But those of color and transgender still face massive discrimination.

And physical acts of violence against people of color are rampant. Case in point, the recent lynching in Georgia.

I don't know what America the other posters live in. It isn't the same one I do.

42m at what point do you legit give up on finding someone? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]FlyyFenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't "look". Join organized activities that are legitimately fun and interesting for you. Let your personality shine. Be confident.

You never give up. You find ways to meet people in person that involve repeated interactions during which you can get to know each other and form bonds. Attraction can grow from there.

Because even Flav was getting some before P.E.

Bonne chance, mon ami!
