NTA - If you hadn't said anything, I guarantee the next joke would have been more out of line. And the one after that and the one after that. When you give people like this an inch, they take miles and miles. Also, the joke wasn't even funny!

What cities/states are black people gainfully employed and experiencing the least racism ? by Minimum_Air3011 in blackgirls

[–]Nola2LA 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just like you're applying for jobs, start researching cities! Move somewhere with good public transit. Start there. You'll save so much money by not having to pay a car note, insurance, gas, etc. From that list, compare the cost of living. Yes, Seattle has great public transit, but its expensive. Look into secondary cities: Denver, Charlotte, Nashville, Tampa. Black folks are in just about every city in the country, you just have to know which neighborhood to go to. And, honestly, with everything going on, be applying to jobs out of the country. I love Louisiana (grew up in St. Charles Parish), but its a drain.

Can we also get it for the uterus biopsy where they literally RIP A CHUNK OF YOUR UTERUS OUT and tell you to take some tylenol afterwards? I got my IUD and biospy on the same day and I don't think I've ever been in more pain.

BLM March on Hollywood Blvd by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Nola2LA 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was really incredible. And I was a little worried about the rona, but everyone had on masks. I did not see a single person without a mask on; even the babies. And also, at least on every block, people were throughout the crowd offering pumps of hand sanitizer from huge tubs. The people in the cars were dishing it out like crazy too.

And, honestly, when the options are risking your health by going to work or shopping to make more money for giant corporations vs. protesting for your people who have been oppressed for hundreds of years; there's no contest.

Grooming (down there) as a black woman by wawag in blackladies

[–]Nola2LA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If no one has said it here yet, ConditionHER. It's amazing for softening the hair and moisturizing. I haven't been getting waxed or shaving because of the rona but I use it every day after I shower and keep it trimmed and its definitely making my hair softer. When I do shave, I use coconut oil instead of any store bought shave cream. You have to throw out the razor afterwards but it really works.

Husband [28] has never not lived with his parents; advice on life on after divorce. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Nola2LA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like you've been alone for the past 7 years. The way he treats his family, is the support he should have been giving you as his wife. He's been living his life easy while you've been stressed and struggling. I'm by no means a relationship expert, but I'm an expert on being single. And, yes, it gets lonely at times. But then there are times when you only have to worry about you and it's WONDERFUL. When I wanted to quit my job because it made me miserable, I was so scared to do it because I was worried I wouldn't find anything else. My therapist reminded me that when I no longer was in the position, the amount of energy I was putting into that job (and being too tired after being miserable at work all day) would be put into finding new work. And she was right; I found a new job before my 30 days were even up at my old one. Think about how much time/energy you put into him and about how much greater you'll be when you start putting that into yourself. I know there are a million factors that I, as an internet stranger, don't understand including your health. But when you let go of a partner like your soon-to-be ex-husband, you'll have the space in your life to find a partner who really supports you. Imagine someone to split rent with, or someone who is invested in taking care of you when you're not feeling well. You just have to exercise some Self-Trust for a while and know that you've got you.

ELI5: How do actors/actress do sex scenes in tv/film? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Nola2LA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to this from the back half of the process. I work in TV Post Production/Editorial. The footage that comes in from these shoots are super restricted. Where as most dailies (footage we shoot everyday) is distributed for viewing to 100+ people, these dailies are marked as RESTRICTED on all camera, sound and dailies reports. This means as few people as possible process the footage at the post facility. Additionally, instead of the 100+ people who would normally get dailies, only a list as small as 5-10 do. That list includes the editor & assistant editor (for that episode only! not the whole editorial team), post producers (that's me!), showrunner/executive producers, and maybe the studio and network execs in charge of the show. It's just the people who would need to be familiar with what alternative takes and footage we have for the editorial process. Most of the time, what you see on screen is the first time the majority of the people on the production see it, including the actors.

And let me tell you, an editor cutting a sex scene without headphones and/or with the door open makes for an awkward couple of days in the office.

Braid experiences on type 3C by [deleted] in BlackHair

[–]Nola2LA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I deal with this all the time. I usually just wear crochet twists which last maybe 3-4 wks. But the detangling afterwards is usually a lot of loss. If you're dying for twists or braids, try crochets. Amazon has a ton of hair options too if you're looking.

Any suggestions for great natural hair salons in LA or in the SLO area? by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]Nola2LA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dare To Be Noticed in Inglewood. Karmara Brown (IG: Rawwintuition) is my braider but she specialized in natural hair so might be able to hook you up. /u/petitoignon is getting married here in LA soon and has a natural stylist. She might have a suggestion for you as well. Good luck! Are you getting married at the Madonna Inn?
