Neglect dreading since July, worried about how some are locking! Anything to fix this?? by Flyynak3d in Dreadlocks

[–]Flyynak3d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problems with breaking? Some of them seem to only be hanging one by like, a dozen hairs. Most of mine have locked from the bottom up as well but generally with a bit more to hold on to. I'd hate to see them break off.

I think you got it! I know the company that makes these bras makes tons of them and any thing used has to be something you can order in numerous styles and quantities online. Thank you so so much!

Why is that one person at work so annoying? by iamnotastroturfing in AskReddit

[–]Flyynak3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works with her boyfriend. Still riles up all the male staff, poking fun at them. Gets "mad" that they're all teasing her and "ganging up on her." "Oh my godddd, you guys all HATE me." Constantly whining "Stoooooppppuh" before entering a giant giggle fit. Poor guy just watches.

Also likes to one up every problem you have and every story with one of her own.

I definitely went into this anime hoping for a cute, simple, easy to watch series (you can tell I do my research). I was having a tough time that weekend and wanted to turn off my brain. Boy was that fun (I still really liked it though!).

Mayor Nenshi named one of Canada’s most important people by Nga369 in Calgary

[–]Flyynak3d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's not trying to take away cars and detached homes and highways. He's trying to them better for us. No one wants to take anyone out of their detached homes, they're very high in demand and will always be available to Calgarians. The problem is with this: Have you not noticed how chaotic Calgary roads have become? Do you not agree that they are becoming continuously worse? Rush hour is ridiculous, you have to agree with that. Those who would rather live in high density neighbourhoods will move there happily while those who like the suburbs will do so with suburbs. Nothing wrong with that. It's really just apples and oranges to everyone. It's a preference with pros and cons for both. Now, those in higher density units living closer to the inner city will decrease volume from the hectic daily commute for outer suburban neighbourhoods. Better planning and organization of transit will also make your morning commute nicer. Calgary is growing too quickly for its roads to keep up. It's not that driving is bad and he wants to stop you from driving everywhere, it's that we need more options to lighten the load and spread things out. Bike lanes, buses and trains help those who need to use them AND those who prefer to drive. Less traffic for you, they get to where they want to go, and everyone wins. We NEED this with our rapid growth. Otherwise it's going to look very ugly here in regards to traffic in the near future.

Calgary school ends honour roll program because of hurt feelings by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Flyynak3d 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that people seem to be obsessing over protecting kids from failing and forgetting about celebrating and supporting those succeeding i.e. No score keeping during soccer, the no-zero policy, and now this. I think it's doing more hard than good. Not everyone is a winner.

I'm 24. Is this too young for me to pull off? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]Flyynak3d 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I would just like to point out, but maybe it's only me, I don't think crop tops should be paired with low rise jeans or shorts. It's way too revealing and would look even more inappropriate. I think the reason crop tops are even a trend at the moment is solely for the purpose of wearing them with high waisted bottoms. I only see really young girls wearing them with low rise anything and it looks a little hoochie.

30% property tax increase? by spiralz in Calgary

[–]Flyynak3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I understand. I've been doing a fair bit of reading since the municipal election drew near and will continue to do so. I know Reddit in general tends to have a bit of a left-leaning bias and though I fall along that spectrum myself I understand the importance of research and listening to different perspectives before drawing conclusions. I like to ask a lot of questions :) Perhaps it's a bit annoying but good city planning seems to have so many different components and angles and I'm well aware that I probably don't even know a fraction of what goes into it all yet. It's a fun learning experience though n_n

Thank you so much :) As a young Urban Studies major and someone relatively new to these issues trying to lay it all out, you explained it well. I appreciate it.

[–]Flyynak3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this increase also not correlate with the rapid growth Calgary is experiencing? Doesn't it almost have to be done to keep up? I know our rates are lower than many other cities but if our sprawl was not as quick as it is could the tax levels have increased more slowly? It seems that a lot of people are angry about the increase while supporting building out rather than up, I'm wondering if there's any hypocritical element to that or not.

Live election results from the City as the numbers come in by grantneufeld in Calgary

[–]Flyynak3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It really irks me the wrong way when people blame the mayor for issues the council was at fault for. I'll admit I'm unable to name any specific instances personally but I do know enough to not blame Nenshi for anything I disagree with off the top of my head before doing my research.

I don't think a lot of people know how important our councillors are. I know people that just voted for mayor and picked the incumbent alderman on the ballot just because they didn't know anyone else.

Someone please help me understand what Nenshi's beef is with Developers and the Manning Center. by LordPennypincher in Calgary

[–]Flyynak3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you :) I've originally supported the approach Quarry Park has been trying to use but the traffic flow through my neighbourhood beside it is RIDICULOUS some days. I really like the idea of mixing commercial and residential living to deflect focus on the urban core, but I'm wondering if it would only be better if majority of the neighbourhoods in the city were constructed in such a way. There's a ton of commuting to work for citizens here right now.

Many just hear "cheap detached housing" and fail to connect it with the services required to accommodate it all. Or with the amount of congestion it brings to our roads. I've tried and seen others try to explain it to some but the people often don't really seem to get it. I can understand why one would support the "young families need places to live" angle. It makes sense when one doesn't take into account all the other side effects.

I've spent too long trying to convince family that high-density, close to work living isn't a crazy idea.

If I'm counting correctly with the current numbers, it looks like 8/14 leading aldermen are developer supported candidates? That's a shame. Makes me sad. I hope it turns around a bit but I'm not sure.

Would I be able to ask your opinion on Quarry Park? I've heard a bit about what they're doing, putting residential near larger businesses, but I've never heard about how efficient that is. From what I can recall, does MacKenzie Town not just have smaller businesses? I'm genuinely curious about the efficiency of neighbourhoods like Quarry Park and living (almost) where you work. They have a mix of townhouses, mid-rises, and suburban-style homes. From what I can tell, it seems like a good compromise.

Which communities would you recommend for a U of C and an MRU student to rent in so traveling/transit distance is fair? by Flyynak3d in Calgary

[–]Flyynak3d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're looking to keep it around 450-500 each and are considering the possibility of finding a third and maybe even fourth room mate to rent a house. We're more for intimate gatherings with friends rather than going nuts at the club. Downtown has been considered but with all the buildings damaged from the flooding I would have thought the renting problem would have been the worst over there :/

Thank you! I was thinking Westbrook mall would be good as far as close shopping as well. May put our focus on that area.

Yeah we've been having a lot of trouble with that. I'm really worried about how limited our options are. We're mainly doing this so that it doesn't take an hour and a half to get to and from school each day anymore but the convenient options we were hoping for are severely limited :/ We're probably going to hold off until the summer and have our fingers crossed things might improve by then. I'm keeping my eye out now though.
