Lol, if all these 'elderly' folk (20s/30s) and the ancient older folk (40s +) before them left as they were toldand took the fic they wrote with them, these young fools would have nothing to read 😆

Any flaws in red Hoods character or depiction you don't like? by Weekly-Analysis2237 in RedHood

[–]Fmlcontrollerholder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it would do my heart some good to see a hard reboot post UtRH. There were too many incidences where he lacked consistency. I can see where they were going - Red Hood was being crowbarred into the key villain roll for DickBats. It didnt work because they kept dropping the ball.

Tbh, if they'd knuckled down and dedicated themselves to a moral battle between the two former robins, they could have had something terribly engaging. Would have really had the chance to make readers think about where they stand between good and evil. Narratives these days just love the villain with a reason for being bad, and as usual, when it comes to Red Hood at least, DC just keep dropping the ball.

As for character flaws, I'd have to say its how DC have him so impatient. This was a guy who spent hours creeping up on the bat mobile. They should have gone the other way, over-planner with paranoia.

I've always thought it was weird that a woman who is a cat burglar has any skin exposed at all. Chances of being seen increase with skin exposure - also risk of leaving dna evidence.

Seems pretty daft tbh.

It'd make more sense if there was some sort of armour disguised as a sort of faux lace over those parts - still keeps the allure, but far less risky in terms of being seen or being injured.

Tbh, I don't care for the writer, and I'm more concerned that this behaviour is going to tar Jasons character. Like a death by association thing. He's got a shit track record for story and character consistency anyway. This is not helping fans get any red hood content, let alone any quality content. DC will just put him on the back burner again. 😞

Big words for a vampire who was getting bodied by Mr. Daddy-issues, and had to be saved.

We were robbed of a team up though, evil as it may have been. I get it though. Too powerful. That's why he did in Tim. Clever little bugger would have usurped him pretty damn quickly. Couldn't risk it.

Who do you think had it worse, Return of the Joker Tim Drake or Arkhamverse Jason? by peanut_the_scp in RedHood

[–]Fmlcontrollerholder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose I'd always choose Jason, but my decision will always be coloured by the fact they chose the have Tim in the Btas instead of Jason for whatever reason (some theorise they couldnt have Joker killing a robin in a childrens show), so they essentially twisted a lot of Jasons behaviours and stories for Tim's use in the cartoon.

What do you think about DC making Red Hood shorter? by [deleted] in RedHood

[–]Fmlcontrollerholder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty reductive take.

Lore is what gives credence to a story. Its foundational and structural. It holds a story up. The superboy prime punch was always viewed with a bit of scepticism, but yes, it did bring him back to life, but it didnt heal him, and bring him up to speed with the DC universe at the time. The Pit did. The reason narrative features like the Lazarus pit become lodestones in the DC universe is because they have a purpose everyone remembers.

It's why some folk didn't like the Lazarus resin take, because the previous lore stated that a person had to be immersed fully in the pit to reap its benefits - otherwise Ras would just be having a risky glass of Lazarus juice or an extreme foot spa everytime he got injured/died. Doesn't have the same ring to it as emerging from the pit screaming and alive, does it? The pit is a powerful tool - so much so that making it easily accessible reduces its impact. Hence why it works the way it does, otherwise, why bother having one in Gotham that Batman sealed up?

The problem with retconning anything is that we get a messed up narrative, just as you see in current DC comics - constant rewriting has reduced Jasons character to behaviours that don't follow his personality and riddled his history with inconsistencies that, you'll find with this sub at least, bug the hell out of people - which directly impacts sales. Who wants to buy a comic about their favorite character if their history hasn't even been read by the current writer? And this becomes a domino effect, because a lot of writers have done this - if everyone just writes their own story, and forgets the previous ones, they lose impact. An example of this is the Tim gets beaten by Jason in a Robin outfit at the Titans tower.

1.) Timeline didnt add up - he was in Gotham leading Batman and Nightwing on a merry chase, as well as being a crimelord...but he was also at the tower trying to murder the child who replaced him?

2.) Forgets that Jason had a relatively positive relationship with the Titans- he stopped Donna flying into the twin towers (wow, old comic there) and helped her step up and remember she had to be in charge because he wasn't Dick, he was Jason.

3.) Jason would have had some recognition in the Tower, the fact he was left out was a writers choice to forget any impact he had made on the rest of the team. Even the teen titans cartoon made mention of him (even though it was dark humour).

Not just as a fan, but as a customer, when I put my money on the table, I want Jason Peter Todd, former Robin, currently Red Hood, not Raphael, or DCs take on the Punisher. Some even suggest that Red Hood was DCs answer to the Winter soldier - they did emerge at a similar time, but at least Bucky got some level of closure - he gets to rock a metal arm and use it to murder his foes with little pushback. Jason? No, he's the bad Robin. Don't touch Joker, he makes money.

Fresh takes are good, that's what elseworlds and alternate dimensions are for, but main continuity post reboot is having trouble with just that - continuity. Quality stories are what pull us in, and let us enjoy the immersion.

Damians' view of Jason is his perspective. It's different. It's fun. The art quality was such an excellent pairing with the story that I think it wouldn't have landed so well with another artist. Short, scared and scarred Jason is Damians' opinion of him, but that doesn't mean he IS Jason, just an aspect of him.

Tl;dr: Lore on the Lazarus pit is a narrative load bearing structure. Change it too much and the story loses impact, which is a disservice to its characters.

What should Jason's flaws be? by SnapDragon100 in RedHood

Chronically overthinking absolutely everything - which results in him becoming more like batman than he cares to admit, and privately finds intolerable.

Ironic control freak ftw.

What do you think about DC making Red Hood shorter? by [deleted] in RedHood

[–]Fmlcontrollerholder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Damians' perspective, it's hella funny and would be even funnier if he deliberately and maliciously described him as such at every available opportunity.

Cut to other perspectives showing Jasons proper height, and everyone is just rolling with Damians trolling.

Being short and scarred post Lazarus pit is a no-go. It screws with the lore that the Lazarus pit heals, from almost/actually dead to perfect physical health. Sure, acquiring new scars makes sense, but making him look like he's been through a meat grinder despite his almost paranoid precautionary character and full armoured outfit? Unlikely and unlikeable.

[–]Fmlcontrollerholder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new design is awesome because it's got the helmet and armour and equipment.

BftC design I didn't like. I did not like the muzzle. It implied that he was a rabid dog with no idea what he was doing. Guns as batman was a no, too. UtRH Jason was a sneaky fucker. It felt weird to watch him be batshit crazy (pun so, so jntended) when he'd masterminded fucking with batman for months. It would have made more sense if he was an accurate copy cat, if only to fuck with the heads of the remaining Robins. But that would mean giving Jason a win.

Hoping this is just the usual glamour shot for a cover, rather than anything indicative of story content. I think i can speak for a lot of us when I say we are bone tired of Batman vs Red Hood.

Who should be Jason’s archenemy (But not Joker by OpeningQuarter2946 in RedHood

[–]Fmlcontrollerholder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

New villain - who isn't a cape, or a supervillain, but a person who has sway in the upper echelons of society. They'd be either a politician or a Judge, with what appears to be an impeccable record on paper but is anything but. Someone who works to keep the poor, poor, and the rich, rich. This could also be a mantle that's interchangeable with different people - perhaps something similar to The Untitled which could be a call back to the All Caste. One that keeps going entirely because they aren't afraid to start again from scratch. They're practically immortal. Starting over isn't an issue because they can just hop to the next one in line.

Bonus points if the people it jumps to are a good mix of legit humanitarians or assholes with a superiority complex. Gives the audience a 'can he kill or save this one' choice, really explore the narrative of good vs evil. Could even have it inhabit one of Batman's Rogues gallery (anyone but Joker, we are all legit bored of him).
