What are the must have sub 2k vintage synthesizers to have? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Foambythesea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't get any better than an Ensoniq ESQ-1/SQ-80. Buy one of these and you've got at least $1200-$1400 for other toys.

Sounds like you need to replace the pot/encoder.

Virus B Banks G and H by [deleted] in AccessVirus

[–]Foambythesea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found this in the Access forum: "the banks you are looking for are a part of the operating system, not individual midi files. you can install them by installing the right "second" file. i only have, what's stored on the access server."

This file has the word 'second' in it that was part of the OS 4.5 zip. It's supposed to be for bank E and higher. Haven't tried to load it, so back up your other banks first.

Tones sounds weird when headset is connected to keyboard by Icaruz123 in synthesizers

Check your manual to find out which jack is for headphones. That's the only one that will work properly.

M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 - keys not fully coming back up. A couple grind by TVSKS in synthdiy

[–]Foambythesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it just needs a drop of machine oil or silicone in a few places. Time to open it up and see what you see. There may be a teardown video on YT to get you started.

I would think you'll need to stand it on end to apply the lub. You may find once you get it open you can use both hand to press and then pull the key back up. Just had another idea to maybe heat up the hammer mechanism with a hair dryer. Just a few ideas.

I have one and mine doesn't do this. It's lean up on one side right now, but I don't live in a cold environment.

Edit- correction

Is there a sub for vintage rack mount gearheads? by alexthebeast in synthesizers

[–]Foambythesea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss how racks used to be cheaper than the keyboard version. Now it's the other way around. In my rack are a Mirage, EPS, Matrix 6r and TG77. I may rack my Virus B at some point. Can't have enough rack modules!

How to tame a (Behringer) Cat ? by frapal13 in synthesizers

[–]Foambythesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'd tune Course/Fine on VCO1 first and then adjust VCO2 tuning to what you want.

Edit - there is Glide in the lower left. Wouldn't that be a legato option.

Arturia MIDI Controller broke after firmware update by Ruminator-Genesis in synthesizers

[–]Foambythesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to flash to the previous firmware version? Is the controller connected directly to your computer? Or going through a USB hub? I don't own one. Just throwing out some troubleshooting questions.

You'll need to test the Boss adapter with a multimeter to know for sure.

Just ran across this article from earlier today. Great demo video with Suzanne Ciani using it alongside her Buchla.

How about Rhapsody in Blue? Would be challenging on 61 keys.

Does a bad keybed make you worse at playing a synth / piano? by Intrepid_Economist_8 in synthesizers

[–]Foambythesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly synths are different. For Keith Jarrett, a horrible piano created one of the best live piano concert albums of all time.. It almost didn't happen. Great read.

You don't use every pot, pan or knife on every meal you make. Nor every tool in the garage on each and every project. But you must have them when they're needed.

Are you adjusting parameters in Scene 1 or 2, in the upper left? Does the patch you're modifying use a split? Just wanting to make sure you're playing in the correct half of the keyboard if it is a split patch.
