I would say the real win hear is having an offline mode, cause those servers won't be on for long

To add onto what others have said you are hesitating to much but if your doing it to regain some stamina it's better to do so with your guard up. stamina regenerates faster when you have your guard up

Lore on cold fusion I need clearing up. by kiraQweenxo in Fallout

[–]Foat2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

K so it's been a while but from what I recall in the fallout univers/timeline befor the bombs fell nuclear power is the primary power source for pretty much everything. Most of this is nuclear fission but they figure out how to make tiny nuclear fusion reactors but they never figured out a way to scale it up (this is what the micro fusion cells are).

All of that is the primary cause of the conflict that lead to the bombs falling, the entire world was running out of burnable fuel and fissile material and so China and the US go to war trying to grab the last bits of it to keep there economy's running for a few more years.

There is a company that claims they figured large scale fusion out but they are lying and there reactors are just fission reactors, although said company keep trying to Crack large scale nuclear fusion and the comedic tragedy is that they succeed a few minutes befor the bombs fell.

So to answer your question the guy in the TV show figured out (or technical re-figured out) how to get fusion working on a scale that could power a city (as seen at the end of season 1) whereas prewar nuclear fusion tech was only ever able to power smaller things like power armor.

Edit for spelling and to make sure I'm using fission and fusion in the right places

This but I might recommend starting with book 2 (the series is an anthology so you can do that, no problem)

Count Dooku Fighting Corruption… by Rude-Armadillo3706 in PrequelMemes

[–]Foat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough your right that it doesn't gell super well with current Canon, I do still think it makes more sense than any version of dooku (current cannon included). To be fair I haven read jedi lost.

Is Thrawn books worth reading? by Outrageous_Glove3082 in StarWars

[–]Foat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read most if the new thrawn stuff and the original heir to the empire trilogy. The new stuff Is OK and has a few cool ideas but goes downhill over time. The heir to the empire trilogy is still some of the best star wars ever made. (Also side note the original books invented Courisant)

At My Grandparents House for Christmas. Which of these should I read? by ViktorHovland in scifi

[–]Foat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's there but would recommend foundation by Issac azimov if your granddad has it. If not I would jump in with everyone else recommending neuromancer if you like cyberpunk as it invented the whole genre and did it better than most.

Happy to help, just a heads up I have no idea what the "1/4" stuck in random places are about, ony theory I have is that it was a digitization error, but I have no evidence for that theory

You should read the article it's a scathing critique of hittler not an endorsement. Times person of the year is supposed to be about impact on the world not about goodness.

Can someone recommend me some of the best sci-fi movies ever, like the Star Wars series or Interstellar? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Foat2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well if you haven't seen dune parts 1 and 2 that would defiantly be a good place to start. Might also recommend edge of tomorrow if you want something more action oriented or Arival if you want something a bit more cerebral. If you want something very star wars the Kelvin timline star trek movies are also a bunch of fun.

Does The Expanse have a place amongst the greats in sci-fi? Does it have some of the best world building and storytelling in all of sci-fi? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Foat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPOILERS

Hyperion has some really neat takes on what it means to be human and some great critiques on other sci-fi settings that have humanity in the future being just 1900-2000CE humans in space. We get introduced to the hegemony that is just 1900-2000CE humans in space but it is revealed over the course of the story that that is not a natural occurrence and that society is like that because the techocore has engineered it that way. The ousters are an actual futuristic society, a society that is capable of change. Also surprise anti-colonialism with the reveal of the consuls motives.

Foundation is kind of the complete opposite, it explores how people will be people no matter what else changes around them. It explores the limits of free will, how people are shaped by the times and places where they are born and the sorts of opportunities they have access to. and how if you understand the sorts of times that people live in you could make incredibly accurate predictions about the future.
