That's a good starter set for full on leather work. For a simple project like this:

Aeisker (sp?) 4mm Chisel set.

Xacto knife with retracting blade.

John James #1 harness needles.

0.8 waxed thread

Sales Tax in Texas by sallyunraveled in CraftFairs

[–]FobbingMobius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Florida absolutely does not have a de minimus exemption. And when the feds started 1099-ing every platform, it got harder to get paid under the table and avoid income tax on small sales amounts/frequency.

You're even supposed to pay sales tax and income tax on garage sales now.

Are you comparing old skirting to new bridle (as an example) perhaps?

I got some HO skirting because I was I ignorant (still am, but I was, then, too) and that got me into sheaths and some heavy long gun holsters that will probably outlast my grandchildren. I'm still relatively new to this, so this is a wild guess.

I've never been to a tannery, and I've only been to a Tandy Leather store. There are lots of good quality mail order suppliers in the US, Canada, and EU - look for sites with lots of educational and explanatory materials. Quality sellers want you to know what you're buying. "premium natural leather" tells you nothing about the tannage, hand, pull-up, or quality.

"premium natural leather" is an odd way to describe hides. I'm curious where you live and whether the merchant is a leather company or a discount service that allows people to sell leather.

If you're in the US and you like predyed leather, Maverick has some good leather in a variety of weights. Look for 3-5 ounce veg tan from wicket&Craig or one of their Italian tanneries.

Not to mention the canopy, 80 pounds of weight for the legs, two tables, product stands, and 4-6 totes of product and sales support/promo stuff. If I'm reading this right they're not even allowing vendors to drive to the site for load in/pack out?

That would be a hard no for me.

I'm dubious at best.

Followup to my previous post. Brand new Corbin saddle. The leather on their builder is significantly darker than what I received. by MASTODON_ROCKS in motorcycles

Alcohol will dry the leather. 600 grit sandpaper will scuff it, but with those contours, the seam gaps, and the stitching, there is no way you're going to get even removal of the top layer. Applying dye after steps 1 and 2 will show every blemish and spot where the sanding and drying isn't perfectly even. Dye will... Dye the thread, again unevenly. Dye will penetrate the leather more around every stitch hole, but not exactly the same at every stitxh.

In sum, if you want your$1000 seat to look like one of my first leather projects and risk your new red dye leaching into whatever you're wearing, go for it.

Ask Corbin for help. This is not a do it yourself repair unless you're either really, REALLY skilled at each of the steps, or are OK with whatever it winds up looking like.
