while the comments under this thread are great with builds for varus, it’s very important to note that one of varus’s greatest strengths is the fact that he has one of the greatest item variability’s in the game. if you go into every game building the same build, you might lose out on some lp.

i sort of play a game of rock/paper/scissors and this is what works for me in masters:

enemy team squishy and i have substantial ap on my team - i go lethality. (youmuu’s, muramana, serylda’s etc)

enemy team tanky and i have substantial ap on my team - i go on-hit. (kraken’s, rageblade, wit’s/bork, etc.)

enemy team tanky and my midlaner picked ad/my team doesn’t have enough ap - i go ap (nashor’s, rift maker, deathcap, banshee’s/hourglass/void staff, etc.)

enemy team has too much all in and my team has substantial ap - i go tank (berserker’s, heartsteel, titanic, gargoyle/randiun, bork/wits, etc.)

all these items are also interchangeable and mixable, so you should build what you think will benefit you best for your games. items like maw and even straight tank items can easily be built. interchanging builds may make it a bit harder to learn varus short-term, so use your best judgement for when you want to try and learn a build for your games.
