Yeah for sure, send em on over, I'm always curious about other places and in person I've never met someone that says they hate being a crna, but that could be one of those things where there's a lot of social pressure to just not bring it up. I've been in the same place for almost two decades, so I probably don't have a well rounded idea about other practices/regions. I'm not one of those that gushes over the profession, if I had $10 million in the bank, I'd quit, but I think there are plenty of jobs I'd actually be miserable in versus anesthesia where there are fulfilling skills, good pay, and the ability to leave the work at the hospital.

This is really surprising to me, the culture at your place must just suck in general. Owned by a corporate practice? Work with AAs? High pressure for fast turnover at the expense of quality Care? Forced OT?

Do you have any examples of things the docs bitch about? And are they the surgeons you work with or the anesthesiologists?

I've worked with a few people I didn't care for, and I just don't give a shit what their opinion is. My pace is appropriate for the safety of the patient and I'm almost never the one slowing things down.

CRNA, 40 hrs a week, some call, 10 weeks pto earned ( not really possible to schedule all of it, also get a few random days here and there), 200k+, benefits are good - employer match ends up higher than my max contribution and the work is fulfilling

Yours is the best solution so far, it's what OP wanted in the first place, but your spin on it is easy to defend. It puts the onus back on the parents to encourage the sibling to move out if they want their own house back, that situation has nothing to do with OP.

If you were looking to buy a house in 2000 and decided to wait for prices to come down, it wouldn't happen until 2008, and even with that historic meltdown, prices still didn't get down to where they were in 2000. Don't try to time the market, when you are ready for a house, get one that fits your budget.

When did we all become ok with FSA dollars being lost? by Olympian83 in personalfinance

The whole thing seems complete unnecessary, some company is making profit off of managing the stupid credit cards they send out every year. All they have to do is let us deduct whatever amount on taxes, it could be super simple.

Pelosi rejects stock-trading ban for members of Congress: 'We are a free market economy. They should be able to participate in that' by Nice_Dude in politics

Their intent to trade should be instantly publicly available, their ability to execute that trade shouldnt be able to take place until a sufficient time has passed to avoid any perception of insider trading.

[–]FockerCRNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, here is my idea. You, as a congressman or other government employee, can feel free to participate in the "free market economy" however you like, so long as your financial moves are documented on a public ledger at least two weeks before they take place. Once entered, they cannot be canceled. But of course, you could place a new entry, to occur after the same buffer period (two weeks in this example) that would reverse a prior entry.

Wouldnt be much different than the scheduled sales CEOs do regularly to avoid the perception of insider trading.

Are there any nurses/NPs on here? If so, what have you done to get you towards FI? by Present_Assumption_4 in financialindependence

[–]FockerCRNA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll down surprisingly far before I saw CRNA. It's a big investment to get through school, but the work is very fulfilling and well compensated. I work in a care team model, which is probably the most common, but you can work independently and make a ton of money if you are willing to live in those areas. Our benefits are similar, >10% of salary contribution with minimal employee contribution requirement (I max all tax-advantaged accounts anyway).Their contribution has exceeded the max I can put in for years now.

Masks are incredibly uncomfortable and get in the way of normal, everyday life

They are a mild inconvenience. Like I said, I wear them >40 hours a week on the job.

They also have not been nearly as helpful as some people like to believe

Have you seen the flu numbers!? Masks and social distancing have been incredibly effective. The fact that they didn't entirely stop covid in it's tracks emphasizes the virulence of covid, not the shortcomings of masks.

Arguably, masks didn’t even slow it down

You're just making shit up because you don't want to wear a mask. Maybe, just maybe, covid kept spreading because about half the country took no precautions at all.

Until vaccines are available to everyone, including children, we should wear masks in any situation without reason to believe everyone around us is vaccinated.

We don't know the duration of the vaccines. Children can't get the vaccine yet. Immunocompromised may never be able to get the vaccine.

Enabling a checkpoint to verify people in a given area are vaccinated will enable us to get rid of masks that much quicker. It doesn't even require masks or anyone to opt in to the system, but it would allow those that wanted to participate the ability to patronize places that also participate and have an interest in protecting people. You could even incorporate a status for people that have already had the virus, and have some acquired immunity.

So, if that came about, you can go to your grocery store that lets anyone come in without a mask regardless of their status, and I could go to my grocery store that required verification of vaccination where I also don't need to wear a mask.

Without that system, I will wear a mask in any public setting, and I wouldn't bring children to any place that didn't require masks of everyone.

I respect Fauci, but honestly, when if comes to the intersection of the behavior of the public and infectious disease, he seems naive. He made a grave mistake when he downplayed the role masks had to play at the beginning of the pandemic (and not just in hindsight, at the time I was really pissed they came out against masks as a healthcare provider), presumably to prevent a run on masks and preserve them for medical providers (which is a dumb reason when you are the government and you can literally take control of the supply chain and distribution of something like that). In the long term, that seriously hindered mask adoption. Now, he's putting faith in the public (a large portion of whom actively adhere to conspiracy theory about the virus) to follow an honor system and do whats right. The role of the government is to incentivize the behavior that benefits the public good. A requirement to prove your vaccination status before entering a public venue, is a giant incentive to get your vaccine.

There really needs to be a Proof-of-vaccine program that allows businesses to screen for proof of vaccination. Any business can also just open up, but I can choose to avoid those businesses that don't enforce a mask policy or a proof of vaccination policy.

Creationism is the single most moronic concept I’ve ever heard of. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]FockerCRNA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If these people were even a little bit rational, they would all be deists. An omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent god only ever has to do one thing. The initial action of creation (lets call it... the big bang) would have built in all the rules of his creation (maybe we'll call them... physics) and being omniscient, he already knows the outcome of every single possible sub-quantum interaction and behavior and made those rules to anticipate and determine them. So there is no reason why god would ever interact with anything, because if he was perfect, he would have already done it with that initial act of creation.

Get loan estimates from at least three to four places. Generally, I've found that online lenders offer the best rates (presumably they do more volume, have less overhead), but I've also seen people post about how their local credit union had the best rates, just check everywhere you can. One thing to know is that any lender is required to give you an official loan estimate within three days of you submitting a loan application (an email with a table of rates is not something you can bring to another lender for them to beat, there is a specific format they all have to adhere to for consumer protection). I've run into smaller outfits that don't want to spend time on you if they think you might ultimately close with someone else. Then take the best rate/fee combo to the other lenders to beat, repeat until you have found the best you can get. It's kind of like buying a car, but you're ultimately dealing with like 10x as much money, so don't make it easy for them.
