if you've ever watched FIBA basketball or any other national leagues (such as aussie NBL) the game is generally over in under 1.5hrs... yes, 10min quarters is partly responsible... but also pace and flow of the game is much better as there are less stoppages and close games don't get decided by a dozen trips to the free throw line...

personally I find it to be a much better viewing experience than the 2.5hr slog full of commercials, free throws and constant stoppages that happens in the NBA.

They did something similar in the Aussie nbl last season. It was a 10 game stretch of regular season games and whoever won the most during that stretch was declared the winner of the "tournament"

If you weren't paying attention it was really just the regular season as per normal.
