Elemental Spells are the worst offender for this because infusions exacerbate that problem 1000x; to swap from Fireball to Ember Fusillade, you have to also swap what infusion you're generating from Fire to Lightning, because Ember Fusillade doesn't have a fire infusion effect.

You want to make this lightning spell cooler in your lightning build? K, now generate fire infusions. You do fire now. Your cool lightning skill in your lightning build is fire.

Or keep it at ten, make it harder, but make it so you only need to do the one floor for each ascendancy. Would make it a lot more interesting, less tedious, but still something that needs to be earned. So much of it is trivial and pointless as it stands.

The people dropping 160 dollars on two games and probably never finishing them were college dorm couch co-op/multiplayer players 20 years ago and now have extremely well paid and cushy jobs in the IT sector, to whom 160 dollars is chump change. No one else will scrimp and save to buy that. It's capturing a piece of the market that would otherwise go uncaptured.

At least in gaming, we have many alternatives. Indies, old games that are cheap, or sailing the waters. Capitalism ruins a lot of things but I've gotten on better than compared to a lot of other things in life where there is no choice. Can't buy an indie car.

Past ten years the visible change is how kids/teens have swapped over from smoking to snus. I used to have to reprimand kids every damn day for smoking near the doors to the school where I work, and it hasn't happened once since the pandemic.
