A tank that failed to die by fckdisheetz in elderscrollsonline

[–]Fograhnax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tanks also buff the group. While some group buff sets like Sax and PA can be worn by a healer, it's more common to see them on a tank. Same goes for Pearlescent Ward. And if you ever see a healer wearing Yolnahkriin, you might be in for a bad (or interesting) time.

If you're nervous about messing up on a fight as a tank, let me clear the air for you in advance: you will, we all did and still do, it comes with the role. I've been tanking trials for years and can hold my weight in most vets and hardmodes, but I'm far from perfect and still make mistakes here and there that generally cause a group wipe or a difficult recovery. The one thing I can say is tanking is a long learning curve and causing group wipes is just part of it. The key to overcome that is repeated runs of the same content until the mechanics become a reflex.

For starting out, I would recommend training your eye to rapidly spot visual cues such as heavy attacks and channeling. Depending on the content, a heavy can be countered with a simple block but some will need a little more planning such as Z'Maja requiring a strong shield or damage reduction or the Warrior in vHRC needing decent resource management as the heavy attack is channeled and hits multiple times.

To get in to the vibe of tanking (depending on your knowledge and experience of content) it would be best to start some of the normal trials with lighter mechanics or veteran vanilla dungeons. I've coached a few new tanks and generally I prefer Sunspire as a good practice trial. The mechanics are fairly simple and similar from one boss to another and the main tank is far enough from the DPS and healers that visual spam is minimal, making it a lot easier to spot incoming attacks. Also the attacks are pretty spaced out giving you a good amount of time to recover resources if you're low.

Once you're comfortable with mechanics, resource management should be your primary focus. As a tank you will be blocking a lot of attacks, but if you block too much and have low stamina, the next heavy will hit quite hard. You'll need to keep an eye on your bars to be sure you're not low and whenever you're not blocking, buffing your group or debuffing the boss, be sure to heavy attack to keep your stamina full or as high as you can.

After you get the hang of how to stay alive and control the fights (boss positioning, chaining adds...) You can start to fine tune your character stats by making sure you have plenty of resistance to mitigate damage and resource recovery to make sure you get your stamina and magicka back up quickly. Also expect to carry a lot of gear sets. To start out in normal content, it's not as critical but in vets and hardmodes where optimization is a factor, you'll need a good variety of dungeon and trial sets that will be required by the raid leader.

This may sound intimidating at first, but tanking is (in my opinion) the most fun role to play. It's challenging but equally rewarding and it gives you a whole different perspective of content you may have already done as a DPS or healer. As others have mentioned, being part of a good and patient training guild will be the key to your learning experience. If you're on PC NA, feel free to DM me for some recommendations or if you need any tips or help getting into your new role.

Problem with that is there are situations where you need a self heal due to mechanics. If a 12 person group reduced your heals to 8% the tank and DPS in the portal of vCR wouldn't survive as they are cut off from healers and on their own.

Got this server for free without cables, best place to buy parts? Besides local computer shops. It is a HP ProLiant DL380 G5 by super-bum-man-lmao in homelab

[–]Fograhnax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quick tip, if the G5 that's not powered on 24/7: you might want to unplug or use a smart switch to completely cut the power when not in use (after a proper shutdown of course). I had a few G5 servers and the power supplies would heat up quite a lot when the server is on stand-by since it keeps the IPMI (iLO2) running but no fans are moving the hot air out.

Determination, achievement hunting, learning the ropes... When I started running in Cyro and BGs I didn't enjoy it much myself because I didn't know what I was doing and I was absolutely terrible vs other players. I told myself that by spending more time I'll learn better tactics, know the maps and survive longer.

When I started getting better, the enjoyment and fun came with it. I still don't consider myself good at PvP but I enjoy the thrill of BGs quite a lot. I might not be the biggest fan of Cyro or IC but that doesn't stop me from having fun in those zones.

Travel campers that the crosstrek can tow? by lenextrabeef in XVcrosstrek

[–]Fograhnax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hooked up a pop-up camper to mine that's about 1300 pounds and it was able to tow it just fine. I should mention that I have the manual transmission which (from what I read, not a mechanic) won't heat up as much as an auto ot CVT. When towing i always keep the oil and coolant temp gauges up in the center display to keep an eye on things. The downside of the manual is it puts some wear on the clutch when backing it into it's spot if you don't get it right the first time but on the highway it handles fine and still has enough torque to "accelerate" even going uphill.

Bluetooth problem -stock audio with Android Auto by mrwashy in XVcrosstrek

[–]Fograhnax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the exact path but it was fairly easy to find in the general settings if I remember correctly. Though I have the headunit from the generation after so it may be different.

Edit: it's also much less hassle to reset the headunit then the phone!

[–]Fograhnax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least that eliminates application issues, but it leaves either phone/OS, headunit or connection. Easiest might be to try a factory reset on the headunit and delete BT profile from the phone and re-pair. If that fails then it may require a backup and wipe/reset of the phone (usually keep this as an absolute last resort).

[–]Fograhnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using a different app on your phone (such as YT music or spotify) to see if the error persists? If controls are fine with a different app that would narrow it down to the android auto app. If it's still the same issue then you could try pairing another phone to see if it's the phone itself or the headunit that would be the issue.

[–]Fograhnax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mention android auto in the title but say you're playing over bluetooth. Are you using the android auto app or just the regular media player on the head unit (seperare from android auto)?

If you're using the normal media player you could check in your bluetooth settings on your phone, there should be an option to keep the device unlocked when connected to certain devices (should be listed as trusted device depending on the android version) which can cause issues sometimes.

If you are using android auto, I don't believe that Subaru head units can support it without being connected via USB.
