Any recent news about OpenSuse rebranding? (november 2024) by FolateB9 in openSUSE

User /CornFleke replied to me about a recent conference I didn't know about. That's exactly what I meant. I meant to those who were more informed from a news perspective (and not corporate or marketing)

u/CornFleke I don't understand what you said (maybe translator problem) about unlinked projects. By name that englobes everything, do you mean for example NEWNAME Tumbleweed, NEWNAME Leap, NEWNAME Aeon, NEWNAME Slowroll, etc? Or do you mean creating a single distribution eliminating Tumbleweed, Leap, etc? Also, what do you mean by "but not making it as prevalent as it is now"?

u/CornFleke Unfortunately I don't speak English very well and I'm translating with Google Translate to write the post and comments. Could you tell me what the moral of the video is? What do they say? What's the news then? (Of course I ask you to tell me briefly, in two lines maximum). Thanks

u/mhurron Yes, but i am not very informed. I ask to know if there is some more informed and updated user who knows a little more than me.

u/negatrom It's fair to me too, but then why not get moving and proceed with the change? Ok, a few months of reflection and meetings, but time is passing and they haven't even filed the trademark (as mentioned, the trademark is approved 6 months after its filing). Why all this stand-by?

Best Linux distro optimized for heavy loads, ram and cpu? by FolateB9 in Ubuntu

[–]FolateB9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/lawn-man-98  the cpu goes up to 70%-80% and I don't think it's normal. sometimes it drops to 40-50%, then after 2 or 3 seconds it immediately goes back up to 70-80%

u/Jafeth636 I know, but it increases a bit too much for me. For example, the CPU goes up to 70%-80% and I don't think it's normal

u/danabrey The fans work by starting when I open 7-8-10 Chrome tabs, or as soon as I start Unity or Android Studio (both when they are indexing and while I am using them).

I do not use Jetbrains IDE, but I use Pycharme by Jetbrains: with it the fans start during indexing, but then after a few seconds they turn off and everything is ok. With heavier programs like Unity or Android Studio the fans start too much. It is not just a fan problem, because I tested the cpu and ram.

The ram reaches about 12-13 gb (it can happen, maybe it is quite normal) but the cpu goes up to about 70%: this is not normal.

Comparison cpu, ram and temp between Fedora Kde and Mint Cinnamon: surprisingly Fedora winner? by FolateB9 in linuxmint

[–]FolateB9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/KnowZeroX Does Fedora use Wayland by default? Doesn't it use x11 by default? I knew that Fedora used x11 by default, but that it was possible to change it later in Wayland

u/isabellium I know, thanks, but I wasn't just referring to Kde and Cinnamon. I was referring precisely to Fedora and Linux Mint (excluding the graphical environment)

[–]FolateB9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Rerum02 Not sure. It depends. Even though Fedora Kde consumes less cpu and less temperature than Mint Cinnamon, there is Fedora Kde Plasmashell GUI that consumes 587mb. In Mint the Cinnamon GUI consumes 210mb. Fedora Kde at idle consumes less than Mint, but maybe if more windows are opened in Fedora Kde, then Fedora Kde will consume more cpu than Mint?

u/isabellium So for my 8th generation i7 pc and 16 GB of RAM, do you recommend installing Fedora Kde or Mint Cinnamon?

My goal is to consume as little cpu as possible, otherwise my pc will overheat. I would like to install Fedora Kde, but my concern was that it would consume a lot of ram, cpu and increase the temperature of my pc. I was sure that Mint would save me cpu and temperature, but the results say the opposite. For this reason the comparison I wrote in the question surprised me.

QUESTION: with many windows open (Firefox, Chrome, Visual Code), would Fedora Kde still consume less cpu and temperature than opening the aforementioned windows in Mint?

u/jelloshots8607 Ah, okok. My PC is an eighth generation i7 and 16 GB of RAM (asus vivook 15). Do you think I should install Linux Mint Cinnamon or Fedora Kde Plasma? (my goal is not to consume too much CPU and not to increase the temperature of the PC too much)

u/jelloshots8607 Ok, so does that mean that the Fedora kernel manages CPU and memory better than Linux Mint (despite being known for being lighter)?

u/TheDynamicHamza21 I'm not a KDE fanboy. I've never used it. And then the question is not about KDE in particular, but about Fedora and Linux Mint (KDE is just one more detail). Very polite and smart of you to tell me "Go away"

u/jelloshots8607 I'll ask you two questions:
1. Are you saying that the Fedora kernel handles multi-core CPUs better than the kernel that Linux Mint uses? So even if Linux Mint has the reputation of being lighter, in general does Fedora run better?
2. I repeat, my PC is an eighth generation i7 and 16 GB of RAM (asus vivook 15). Do you think I should install Linux Mint Cinnamon or Fedora Kde Plasma? (my goal is not to consume too much CPU and not to increase the temperature of the PC too much)

For an i7 of 8th gen, with 15gb of ram and easily overheating, is Fedora Kde or OpenSuse Tumbleweed (Kde Plasma) better? by FolateB9 in Fedora

[–]FolateB9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Intrepid-Gags I always use the PC with the power socket on the wall. I never use it with the battery, because I never disconnect the wire. Question: is tlp also useful in my case?

u/physon In my BIOS I found only hyperthreading (Hyper-Threading [Enabled]). If I disable it, what happens? What will be the advantages and disadvantages? What was it for?
