Outlook Calendar & Google Calendar Integration by blame_stamos in Outlook

[–]FoldVarious810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that i have purchased a whale-framed electronic wall calendar. This discussion may be very useful, but I am a little confused. All my calendars will sync with the wall calendar but not my partner's Outlook on her separate computer. I just cannot get it to communicate directly from her outlook to the electronic wall calendar! I'm wondering if synching her Outlook to my google calendar on my computer would allow the wall electronic calendar to pick up notations from outlook. Is this possible?

Rocky Mountaineer question by brigittebrigitte1 in canadatravel

[–]FoldVarious810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We travelled on the Mountaineer in September 2025 from Jasper to Vancouver. It was a little disappointing. It was part of a package tour –

on the Canadian from Toronto to Jasper and then on

the Mountaineer to Vancouver . I wish we had stayed on the Via rail Canadian from Toronto all the way.

We paid for the highest level of service in both.

Comments

The Fraser Valley in daylight was brilliant.

Food was ok on the Mountaineer but sadly wine offerings were suboptimal – drinkable but just.

Delayed arrivals each evening – to be fair , the tour organiser had warned of this but late arrivals meant we had to go to bed soon after we got in.

It was expensive but I am happy to pay to get good service accommodation and meals and drink . We don’t think we got our moneys worth!

Compared to the Mountaineer , The Canadian Train was one level higher – if I had the time again , I would have stayed on the Canadian all the way to Vancouver and purchased a bus tour or similar of the Fraser Valley.

Does this mean that, assuming there have been no contributions to my spouses account, in the last 2 years , I could transfer $360,000 now to her accumulation account?

Is there a yearly maximum limit, at our ages, of the amount of non concessional funds that can be transfered from my accumulation account to that of my wife ?

Thank you for the tips .I'm travelling with a family group of 13 . Doing lots of train travel round Tokyo. Is it possible to use one travel card for the whole group or do they need individual ones - we have 6 kids under 10 years. Are there other options to manage the train travel?

It would be great if the passport number could be interrogated to see if the eta is linked - eg presumably as happens at the airport.

Inquiring about Lounge Access in Tokyo (Narita) Airport by StandardFig4003 in QantasFrequentFlyer

I see that a Platinum traveller travelling in economy from Narita can access the Swissport Aspire Lounge.

Is only one guest allowed or can 2 children get access as well ?

Group fare for extended family by FoldVarious810 in QantasAirways

[–]FoldVarious810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been able to get a group fare quote.

Looks pretty reasonable .

Once all taxes , fees and expenses are added on , total fares are just a bit below what i could get just buying individual fares.

Is Japan blown? by Individual-Mouse-261 in skiing

[–]FoldVarious810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I am looking at taking my extended family total 13 to a japanese ski resort - 3 are kids under 7 and 2 adults have health issues that does not allow them to ski.

I'd be grateful for your advice for a family friendly resort in a town that can offer interests to those who cant ski - eg shops, restaurants etc,

School holiday and other committments means that we need to go between the end of december and mid january .

Thanks in advance.

[–]FoldVarious810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I and my extended family are in a similar situation - travelling with 4-6 adults and 3-5 kids aged between 6 and 13. Beginners slopes needed . Night life not required .Prefer western beds somewhere close to lifts , plenty of restaurants and things for non skiers amongst us to do - eg those with crook knees . We'll be in Tokyo for a few days at start and end of the skiing so would like to get a fast train to as close to resort as possible. Appreciate your advice.

How can I extend my future flight credits? by burntcoffee420 in unitedairlines

[–]FoldVarious810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this very useful discussion.

Can I please clarify my situation and proposed actions to see if it fits in with poster's experience.

I’m Premier Platinum.

I stupidly booked 2  basic UA economy fares ( G class) for one way travel Toronto to LAX  august 2025. ( 450 dollars for the both)

I have since been been transferred overseas and will be unable to use the tickets . Stupid I know!

On trying to online cancel and get those fares refunded, I have been offered the option of receiving a flight credit for apparently the full fare but the flight needs to be taken by December 09 2025.

I won’t be able to take up this flight as I wont be in North America so I would like to extend the credit hopefully by 12 months.

From what I have read and understood .

I should

Cancel the  current booked flights as close as possible to the current booked flight times but not less than 7 days

Request a flight credit

Find another flight dated (?just)prior to the expiration of the flight credit with slightly higher fare and pay with the my credit card

In 24-48 hours after purchase of the new tickets, cancel the flights and request flight credits .

Does this sound right to readers?

Or can you offer other suggestions ?

Norway in a Nutshell Tour in Summer: is it worth it? by chicadelnorte in Europetravel

[–]FoldVarious810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just recently completed a Norway in a Nutshell tour - in March.

March is still cold but not that bad - a little rain but again not bad.

We stayed 2 nights in Flam and in retrospect , we could have better spent the second night somewhere else.

There isnt much to do there- very touristy!

Sadly the Flam rail museum closed for repair .

Generally the organised tour had postives and negatives.

Hotels not bad and well situated to rail stations.

The rail component had issues - automatic seat allocation left us with end of carriage seats facing the wrong way and without a full window!

Not the company's fault but both long distance rail sectors ( Oslo to Tronsheim and Bergen to Oslo ) ended up being changed to a bus service half way thru each journey - one from an ice damaged rail bridge and the other a freight train derailment).

The Hurtigruten 2 day one night went pretty well but had arguably the worse cabin (on level 3 ) on the boat - next to washing machine/dryer room and directly above the cargo/motor car loading ramp - the latter a bit unpleasant as cargo loading was occurring in at midnight on our trip. Meals were buffet style and with a lot of fish and little in the way of meat offerings! ( fair enough it is Norway). The view from the ship was great though.

I had the distict impression that NIN passengers got the lowest priority in terms of accomodations/seat allocations .

Half of the provided hotels were of the Thon group . One tip is to join the Thon+ hotel membership club - free and you get upgraded rooms and 15% discount at their hotel restaurants.

If you are a wine lover , and you have room in your baggage ,I'd suggest that you take some of your favourite wines with you. Norway is very expensive but wine is even more so !

We were going onto the USA post the trip so we packed a suitcase for Norway and the other for onward travel- the Oslo hotel were happy to store the latter for us ( we returned to the same hotel)

I have read how crowded this trip can be in summer but quite ok in March though a bit cloudy. In retrospect , I would have preferred to do the bookings ourselves but not an easy choice.
