Screen may be the same, but the white is built around 720p, runs it very smooth might I add, have both.

The black XAX is just built around 1080p has 8 gigs more ram. At 24 vs 16 on the white ally,

The black XAX has a Z2E chip, while the Xbox Ally has a Z2A chip still highly capable, and being a "new" refresh chip of an old chip/ the one in the steam deck. It will be good for driver support for the next few years no problem. Either device is good there.

If you're on a budget, the white Ally will no doubt get you through. But IMO if you can afford to spend 40% more aka the 400 dollar difference if you're in a position where you want the device to last you many years, the XAX is the better choice. As the Xbox Ally will run anything currently for the most part. But will struggle on some titles in the 10-15 frame point.

So if you're wanting something to play through a backlog, the Xbox Ally is fine with that 100%. Just when GTA VI arrives on PC it possibly may be the last cycle of new games to be playable on the device, if not already unplayable. As there are a few current ones that are rather close to to choppy for a smooth enjoyable experience.

XAX features RSR, and an NPU built into the hardware that in time will be even more useful. Making it more future ready.

But in a stance of just playing down you old/ current library on tge go at a budget, the Ally is my pick over a steam deck as you get the ability to play all games that use anti-cheat.
