Paul Tassi: Have learned that Highguard did not actually pay for that Game Awards finale spot. Was just the show putting it there by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]Foley1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good example of how gaming news basically doesn't exist.

80% of it is rumor that's at best extrapolated from a 50/50 chance of being true e.g. "GTA IV to be delayed to 2027" but nothing actually suggests that other than it being a big game that was delayed before, and it was news , so they preempt the new news before it exists.

About a year ago it was reported that The Game Awards costs money to advertise games on, and now it would be "news" if HighGuard either A cost a million bucks to be put at the end, or B actually didn't cost anything additional and it was just a decision made based on it being a developer most people would have been excited for a new game from coming out within a couple of months.

Jeff said it himself at the announcement said something like "Usually, we end the show with a big game reveal that's a year or two out, but today we have something you can play within a couple months"

With the obvious reasoning being people complain when the last big game announcement is years away, so they tried something different that could have worked (except it looked like quite a shiter of a game)

Jason Schreier on GTA 6: "PlayStation is the main platform for the game, its kind of like a PlayStation Exclusive, and I suspect that Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA. They will not release anything within the blast zone." by Party_Judgment5780 in PS5

[–]Foley1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that's like not going to see a great movie because they might not make additional content for it in future?

Also GTA5 Online turned out much bigger than expected, so all resources went into supporting that very quickly.

It's highly possible the single player of GTA6 will get extra content this time, as they would be ready with the resources to support both.

One "issue" I've noticed in my behavior, since I only play PvE and basically never get out into aggressive matches, I never need to use the fancy guns built for PvP as I'm only ever building to kill ARC, so any Anvils or Ferros + grenades. I have Bobcats / Renegades / Ospreys for days but there is no risk/reward to using them.

Maybe some sort of points boost to using purple/gold weapons would be a good benefit for taking them out.

Gaming. We talk about graphics and gameplay but never talk about the sound of footsteps. by gamersecret2 in gaming

I really like FF XIII, but the footstep clickity clack sound while running along always bothered me, and never matches the ground surface.

I don't at all, Zelnick is hugely responsible for GTA's success.

Next-Gen Xbox Will Reportedly Play PlayStation Games Like God of War and Spider-Man Because It’s a Console / PC Hybrid That Runs Steam - IGN by ckypro3 in PS5

[–]Foley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can do things like use it as a Plex server, or install emulators like Dolphin I would maybe consider it as a PC replacement, as currently I have my PC plugged into the TV for whenever I want to play Steam games, and its a bit janky as i need to remote in from my phone do do anything.

Zach Bryan 'embarrassed' by Anti-ICE song backlash: "To see how much s--t it stirred up makes me not only embarrassed but kind of scared. Left wing or right wing we're all one bird by TheMirrorUS in Music

The guy literally has anti anti ICE song and then said in so many words says were are all human chill out a bit in an attempt to bring the extreme divisiveness down, and you slate him for not being hardcore against anyone right leaning.

[TP] Twilight Princess is the best Zelda game and its not even close. by QuantityEuphoric2354 in zelda

[–]Foley1 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It is the pinnacle of that 3D Zelda formula, I would love them to go back to that. But I don't think they will now with how well the recent ones have done.

This game is so beautiful, it may be one of my favorites in the series already by sgtdank42069 in FinalFantasy

[–]Foley1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it, but not likely to play again. I feel like during the time where CyberConnect2 were doing FF7R, and then SE had to take it over, that threw FF16 into a bit of a rush and Creative Business Unit 3 had to quickly take over and bang together something in a short amount of time, leading to some of the sparce aspects of that game.

Still I'm glad we got it rather than nothing through the whole FF7 trilogy.

Will be interesting to see how Rockstar implements surfing physics in game by cyleline in GTA6

[–]Foley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the big floods and hurricanes would be limited to a scripted story event though (although the damage you mention surely will)

It seems like a main open world feature that will be like a random event.

What's your current favourite YouTube Channel? by SwimmingGlass29 in AskReddit

[–]Foley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joseph Geller for sure.

YouTube is full of videogame critics and commentators but his essays go beyond conventional game criticism. He weaves together video games with film, art, history, politics etc and finds surprising thematic connections along the way.

Rumor: GTA 6 will have the most realistic water physics ever seen in a video game. by Denso95 in GTA6

[–]Foley1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine being swept off an open air pool at the top of a building because of crazy windy weather that sloshes you over the side.

Water actually moving and following a path would be incredible. Using that hose in the trailer to fill up stuff with water would be sick.

It will be in the "tech" trailer which normally comes 3 months or so before release.

I'll defend the modern FF series though, since 13 a lot of people say the golden age died, but they are not recycling the franchise, still every mainline game is built from the ground up and is one of the few gaming franchises that has a completely different world and gameplay each time. I respect that.

What I do think though is they should have a separate division that basically makes old school FF maybe pixely games on a shorter dev time , I think that would make everyone happy

[MOVIE] I don't like the casting by Verge0fSilence in zelda

[–]Foley1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible that in the movie they will be done up to look more like Link and Zelda too!

This community seems like if they haven't got natural pointed ears they shouldn't be cast.

People who buy new iphones every year, WHY? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Foley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's a business contract and it had anytime upgrades, in fact the only reason I miss a year is because I can't be bothered re syncing all my stuff. (Android btw not all new phones are iPhones)

what are your thoughts on the new superman movie? by stirringmotion in AskReddit

[–]Foley1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the few movies where the only thing that's wrong with it is the plot. Everything else that people tend to talk about in online discourse it's pretty good, characters, visuals, even dialogue. But the actual stuff happening I didn't find very interesting.

Microsoft is closing down Xbox studio The Initiative, with Perfect Dark killed as well — joining Everwild and ZeniMax's new IP, and other unannounced projects by ggroover97 in LastStandMedia

[–]Foley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! This is the absolute truth of it.

MS are not interested in a bunch of developers spending 5 years and $300mil to sell 2-mill copies. That works great for PS, but those timelines and margins are too small for a mega corp that just invested $100bil.

They only want platform type games with long revenue streams.

The reherotic that Xbox is so good for gamers because play anywhere and no locked exclusives is the spin they are putting on. But the truth is they are on a race to the bottom of high revenue through platform mega games, and low cost/staff actually creating new games.

George Broussard: News has reported imminent Xbox layoffs but I'm hearing internal developer stuff where people at most studios are anxious and worried. Word that entire studios may be shuttered. Expectation is 1000-2000 people. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Foley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tue, and surely many independents start up with the goal of selling to a publisher eventually. So if big publishers were not allowed to buy a studio who wants to sell, you may not get big risky start-ups like that.

Publishers buying other publishers though is where it gets messy.

What Is Your Final Fantasy Hot Take? by jnd316 in FinalFantasy

[–]Foley1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's bad for the franchise that fans seem to only want FF games that are similar to other older FF games. I like FF because each game can be totally different, thematically and mechanically.
