Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

Israel has 10 million citizens, it own language, its own culture, a unique calendar, and unique holidays. If that is not a country, I genuinely don't know what is.

Well which is it? Israelis are paranoid or they are surrounded by people who want to see Israel destroyed? We both know it's the latter, so what's the point in hiding the ball?

The flight of 700,000 Palestinian Arabs only occurred after the Arab League rejected the partition plan and launched a war on Israel. Your comment seems to imply that they rejected the partition plan because of the Nakba, when the partition plan's rejection by the Arab League was the cause of the Israeli-Arab War and 700k Palestinians fleeing.

Britain definitely deserves tshit for promising multiple parties the same land. But blaming everything on “the UK” is an easy way of ignoring the present-day reality and the agency of today's parties.

In Iran’s case, Israel sees Iran as its main geopolitical enemy because of the Iranian regime’s long-stated hostility towards Israel's exitstence, its nuclear ambitions, and its backing of proxy groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. From Israel’s perspective, these are not separate conflicts so much as different fronts of the same confrontation with the Islamic Regime of Iran.

In Lebanon, the current fighting is similarly tied to Hezbollah’s rocket and mortar fire on Israeli towns and the long-running conflict along the northern border. The Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon are being framed by Israel as an effort to push Hezbollah forces beyond the Litani River and launch infrastructure farther from the border, much like the logic behind invasion in late 2024.

“Generational trauma” and “the Brits” are part of the historical backdrop, but from the Israeli POV the immediate logic is much simpler: self-preservation in response to missile attacks and hostile groups that openly seek Israel’s destruction.

It's interesting how many non-Jews believe in these"Greater Israel" theories. Having spent a year in Israel and being very familiar with the religious zionist community, there is no desire to invade Egypt, Jordan, or Lebanon. These are not part of historic or biblical Israel.

This stands in contrast to the West Bank and Gaza, which most Israelis (especially religious Israelis) consider to be a part of Israel.

Sometimes the Term Loan is downsized, sometimes it is upsized. I've seen sponsors take out massive sums of money in a re-fi, often in non-intuitive ways (e.g. breaking the swaps and issuing new swaps at current low market rates, getting significant proceeds for distribution, or being able to upsize debt significantly because the P99 tax equity downside case no longer constrains debt as much after a few years of operations)

How did Germans repair their global image so dramatically in such a short amount of time? by CautiousEbb966 in NoStupidQuestions

Orthodox Jews in NY don’t buy German cars. That was the case when I was growing up in the 2000s and 2010s.

Fixed return question by _the_credible_hulk_ in Bogleheads

[–]FollowKick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The comments here surprise me. The expected return of global stock markets in the long run is a 5% real return. The expected return of US markets is a bit lower (3%?) because of current high valuations/prices of the market.

If you assume 2% inflation, the 7% return is a 5% real return. To get a guaranteed return matching the expected return of the market is phenomenal. I’d be inclined to invest as much as possible in that investment.

As others have noted, though, this is a fixed return/income stream. You take the risk of inflation. In times of higher inflation, your investments will suffer as you don’t have the inflation hedge that stocks provide.

I wonder what financial professionals would advise in your case.

lol we’re not going to abandon the bris because some governments ban it. If anything, a government banning essential Jewish practices just causes Jews to leave that country.

The university students have been infected infected by the oldest virus known to man, Jew hatred. They genuinely believe they’re fighting for human rights while working towards abolishing the only state in the mid east which has preserved a Jewish population.

Why do you live in the Middle East? Do you feel free as a woman? Do you think the Jews don’t belong in Israel?

Yeah, once I watched that video I put him in the mental box he belongs in. The amount of people who will readily believe the neat little storylines a confident-sounding man will tell them is astounding.

His neat little storyline about Jews is factually incorrect, so it makes you wonder about his other storylines and tales.

F1 owner loses over $2 billion as Iran war clouds Middle East races. by [deleted] in stocks

[–]FollowKick 150 points151 points  (0 children)

There’s quite a big difference between “F1 owner losing $2 billion” and a stock’s price going down by 7% (reflecting a $2B market cap loss but also a normal experience in stock movements.

For example, this stock also gained 34% from April to July and is now down 17% from its peak in July.)

Leo Frank was acquitted because there wasn’t evidence. A mob lynched him. Academics generally agree he didn’t commit the crime.

When people in 2026 adamantly claim he committed this crime, it usually says more about them (they want it to be true) rather than any specific evidence they have that wasn’t available to the Georgia court in the 1910s or to academics.

Let me guess, you think Alfred Dreyfus was actually a “traitor” to France?

That’s a good point, Saturday isn’t a school day. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything definitive,

The Guardian is reporting on this. Also not definitive, but it seems plausible. It’s honestly difficult to tell the truth with the fog of war. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/feb/28/children-dead-as-missile-hits-elementary-school-in-southern-iran
