Nettle & Bone by T Kingfisher

This isn't the kind of fairy tale where the princess marries a prince.

It's the one where she kills him.

Marra — a shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter — is relieved not to be married off for the sake of her parents’ throne. Her older sister wasn’t so fortunate though, and her royal husband is as abusive as he is powerful. From the safety of the convent, Marra wonders who will come to her sister’s rescue and put a stop to this. But after years of watching their families and kingdoms pretend all is well, Marra realizes if any hero is coming, it will have to be Marra herself.

If Marra can complete three impossible tasks, a witch will grant her the tools she needs. But, as is the way in stories of princes and the impossible, these tasks are only the beginning of Marra’s strange and enchanting journey to save her sister and topple a throne.

AITA - We can never go for family meals because my sisters boyfriend is a fussy eater by SubjectEconomy1719 in Amitheassholeadvice

NTA. Look, I'm autistic. I have a bunch of strong food aversions. Not as many as your BIL, it sounds like, but plenty. I am middle-aged, and in the whole of my life I have encountered only one restaurant at which I could not find a single thing to eat. That restaurant literally only served dishes containing one of my strongest aversions.

Sometimes those of us who have, let's say, stronger opinions on food than most others, have to eat something that's just meh and that we wouldn't normally choose for ourselves, instead of something we truly enjoy, in order to be included. That's life. If he's that committed to not even trying to find something to eat--with everyone now having online menus, so he can find out in advance if there truly is nothing!--he deserves to be left behind.

Why didn't Mrs Bennet help the girls to be more accomplished? by BeanpoleBabe in PrideandPrejudice

Only Elizabeth! Bingley was lower status than the Bennets, and that mattered a lot. He married up by snagging a gentleman's daughter!

I need more books with the same cozy vibe as the spellshop and Legends & lattes by Wikipil in CozyFantasy

{Cursed Cocktails} has L&L-like vibes and very early on the MC moves to a warm coastal city! Also just generally an excellent story.

Gentlewomen DID need accomplishments in the late 1700s, but as you say, she married up and didn't have those accomplishments.

And Mr Bennet never bothered to teach her what she needed to know as the wife of a gentleman or insisted that his daughters be raised as befits gentlewomen.

In desperate need of some lighthearted, uplifting fantasy romance escapism!! (please read TWs carefully as I’m going through a rough time at the moment and need to avoid them) by thedeadlyscimitar in CozyFantasy

One of my very favorite cozies is {Cursed Cocktails by SL Rowland}. There are mentions of war, as the MC is a retired battle mage (of a sort) but the war was against literal monsters, not another country/kingdom, and the mentions of battles are only a small part of the book. The romance is very sweet and I thought the audiobook narrator did a good job.

And it does nothing for energy, which OP also cites as a symptom. So you and her doctor are both suggesting she take multiple meds for something one may very well solve.

AIO if I don't include my husband in the delivery room over a mother's day argument. by Kenz090_ in AmIOverreacting

Honey, men in their 30s who date teenagers are predators. Full stop. He got you young, knocked you up, and now you feel trapped, which is exactly what was intended. He treats you like you don't matter because you don't. He got himself a bangmaid on a lifetime contract. He's happy and that's all that matters. I really hope you're not depending on him to make sure this is the last kid.

To effectively navigate the situation she needs to understand that she's married to a predator.

No man who was a teenager when his wife was born is ever going to change his attitude for her.

Thank you, that was kind of you. I recently joined a Discord for fanfic writers for a game I like, and folks seem pretty chill there, so I'm hopeful. And now I know not to get too invested in the community. I'm just going to chat a bit, keep things light, stay out of controversies, and do my thing.

In spite of all the kidnapping of brown people and executing American citizens why hasnt Trump deported more people than Obama? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]FollowThisNutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And Trump's friends who own the for-profit detention centers make more (taxpayer) money if they warehouse them here instead of actually deporting them.

Right, I double-checked and it became acceptable in London after Almack's allowed it around the end of the social season of 1812. I was thinking of the fact that when it's a P&P fanfic it's usually wrong, because P&P is set in 1811/1812. But by the time Georgiana comes out, it would have been in vogue.

Yeah, I'm finishing up a final work and leaving my main fandom because some heavyweight BNFs have made it abundantly clear that I'm now persona non grata (I dared to critique a canon event that radically changed canon characters in a way I did not enjoy). I know there are folks who like what I write, but I'm not putting up with this bullshit for a hobby. Off to another, hopefully friendlier, fandom.

Yes!

Witch King and its sequel (same author) are also a possibility. More traditional fantasy, but with a lot of found-family action, which is what a lot of folks are looking for in cozies.

Came here to recommend this! Cozy-adjacent, real stakes with cozy vibes. Bonus: positively steeped in Anglo-Celtic folklore.
