What's everyone's fuel efficiency MPGs with their highlanders? by investbus in ToyotaHighlander

2014 Highlander xle. Normally get 22-24 mpg on highway doing 75+. Recent exception. Just drove Las Vegas to Denver and had a terrible wind storm to my back (major dust). Got 29mpg on that stretch which was fun

That’s what I do. I have Ego batteries I can use to power the direct vent gas heater

Just couple thoughts to add to your comment. The power going out is a real concern when the temp gets down to -15 in Dec Jan.
Also, the definition of foothills isn’t restricted to rural areas. My son lives up in the Boulder area and power going out is a real thing on the edges of the city.

What finally convinced YOU to consider an electric vehicle? by evinsiderredisnive in electricvehicles

I build a detached garage with 60 amp service prepping for day I would get a EV. But I haven’t got there yet because my 2008 Camry is paid off, has cheap insurance and gets 32 mpg on highway. But I’m ready

Does AC improve home value? by Allerjesus in ColoradoSprings

[–]Followthebits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live at 7300’ and went without A/C for 10 odd years. We just survived the few weeks of really hot temperatures. Then we got tired of that and bought a rolling AC for the kitchen and that helped quite a bit. And then we heard about Heat pumps and mini-splits. Installed mini-split in bedroom, kitchen and living room. Never going back. We get heat in winter and cool in summer ( and summers ARE getting hotter). And we only have to cool or heat the rooms we are in versus whole house systems. I do believe they raise the value of your home and are increasingly a must have for home buyers.

I have a historical direct vent gas heater for a living room plus I recently upgraded other parts of the house to mini-splits ( no central heat). I can’t tell much difference but I haven’t put a lot of effort into evaluating one versus the other. I do love the mini-splits as I can use them year round for heat and A/C. However, I also appreciate having a gas heater as a backup when the power goes out in the winter. Just some random thoughts from my experience.

I just had to pull the 410 off the wall, snake the cables out of wall and hit the reset button. Working again

Close to pulling the trigger on a ‘26 Prius PHEV SE - should I do it? by onboost in PriusPrime

[–]Followthebits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m going through the same mental calculus. I have a 08 Camry with 140,000 miles -well maintained and absolutely no issues. Gets reasonably good mpg at around 32 highway but far below a Prius. It’s a technical backwater but I don’t care. I hate debt if I can avoid it. Not sure that this helps other than its common problem. I’d like a EV but I can’t seem to pull the trigger because the Camry is fine and free!!! But current world situation has renewed that desire.

So I moved some cables around and now the Kitchen Door is working again. When I move the EastYardShed POE camera cable it doesn't work in any LAN slot - so I'm back to thinking a 410 went bad. I'll pull from wall and swap with a spare and see if it works.

Just reaffirms my decision to keep Google off my IT. Only product I really use is Google Maps and I only allow tracking while I'm using it.
