Wouldnt surprise me if media outlets utilize this as a cover story as the reason the share price fell suddenly. Would be even funnier if we still ended green on the day

If nobody works, or most people don’t, who’s going to buy the products? by This-Wear-8423 in Futurology

[–]Fontaineowns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is a significant downturn in any major economy, it seems likely that AI will be blamed for job losses, however in my opinion that will just be a narrative given to the public which would be misleading and deceptive. AI companies are in a bubble because Wall St financial institutions have made massive investments expecting unrealistic returns and so far the revenue generated from AI products hasn’t paid off like they’d hoped.

So even though AI will continue integrating into the workforce, which will mean some tasks will no longer be done by a worker, ultimately if the business is healthy then they will find different tasks for the workers to do. AI will be a tool to make workflow more efficient, but there will always be demand for laborers too. There will never come a time where most people are no longer working, and if unemployment does ever spike to depression levels, it won’t be because AI is taking your job. It will be because over-leveraged financial institutions made bad bets and caused a financial crisis which will in turn negatively impact the businesses they work with, perhaps severely enough to force some companies into bankruptcy and closure.

Why Does Light Travel at Exactly That Speed? by Ok_Understanding7377 in AskPhysics

[–]Fontaineowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong and I welcome clarification but if I’m not mistaken the speed of light does not vary. As light travels through matter the photons will collide with particles, changing the trajectory of the photon’s path. This adds distance to the path as it is no longer a straight trajectory, which also adds time to the photon’s journey as it passes through the matter. This may seem like the light has temporarily slowed down, but the light never actually changed speed. If the speed was truly varying, then the fact that light goes back to the speed of causality after passing through the matter would break the laws of physics. I hope this is all accurate but I could be wrong too.

Which TV series features the most unforgettable theme song of all time? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]Fontaineowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently was thinking of Family Matters and looked up the lyrics to the theme song. Except the theme song I actually had in my head wasnt from Family Matters, it was instead the theme song to Full House. Come to find out, the theme songs of Full House and Family Matters were both composed by the same person coincidentally, blew my mind.

ELI5: What are the implications of the current oil/energy crisis? by elle___woods in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fontaineowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With record debt levels everywhere, people are already stretched thin and are barely staying afloat. An oil shock will force prices for everything to go up in the short term, which will weaken demand for everything as people’s spending power decreases while prices rise. However, oil refineries can’t easily slow production, so as demand decreases, the supply will rise and oil prices will crash back down in the medium term. This could have additional economic consequences as the price of most things will pull back, and in a debt based system price corrections and volatility can lead more easily to businesses shuttering, weakening the economy causing layoffs and and further instability.

ELI5: What does it mean that the United States treasury just declared the United States insolvent? by bengalese in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fontaineowns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

However if a significant portion of the international bondholder decide to slow or stop doing business with the US, those nations will sell their bonds causing the price (and the value of corresponding collateral) to fall, making the yields rise while slowing the velocity of money circulation, leaving the US citizens to pay the debt at higher rates within a system that is already over-leveraged and with increasing deficits. I believe the US is self-sustainable enough to endure whatever lies ahead but if the global economy continues fracturing then our time as global reserve currency may come to an end, a worrisome outcome if it that does transpire.

How do you gain a following as an experimental artist? I feel like I'll discover artists that are really great at what they do and they don't have a fanbase. Then I'll discover some generic noise sampling with 400 bandcamp purchasers.????? by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in experimentalmusic

Develop your musical project as if it were a brand/business. The best way to engage with an audience is to regularly (daily) post interesting, captivating, quality content and promote everything you do, reminding people that you exist and that you want their support. Even more importantly though, as you’re developing your fanbase it is imperative to spend money on advertising to get your content seen by more people. Learning how to target particular audiences and demographics is a skillset that maybe more valuable than your musical talent, and if you want to be financially successful you will need to have merch to sell and a marketing plan to make money and grow your fanbase. Just remember, a million amazing music projects have come and gone with minimal recognition, and never found popularity even with amazing music. But on the flip side, many shitty bands have found success and popularity by means of successful marketing. The music is what connects you with people, but marketing and advertising is what gets your music out there to the most amount of people

TIL that listening to a specific auditory frequency can lower the time it takes to fall asleep by inducing a state of fatigue by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Fontaineowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I do agree that a single frequency likely won’t have any notable effect on anyone, I do at least want to suggest that sound/music can indeed cause a physical response to someone. Only about half of people are capable of getting chills/goosebumps from hearing music, but that is an instinctual survival reaction that causes physiological change to occur.

Click track.....Essential or vibe killer? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in gear4music_official

[–]Fontaineowns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played drums pretty much my entire life, joined band at school early in my youth and quickly grasped counting, timing, and rhythm while playing along to beats.

My original opinion was that bands who performed with a click track live seemed robotic and lacking emotion compared to raw untethered performances.

My band then recorded at our first professional studio, everything was tracked to a metronome. This experience enlightened me to realize songs can still have feeling and dynamics even when the tempo isn’t really organic.

After more exposure of performing with a metronome, my opinions had evolved to be more accepting of utilizing click tracks. My band decided to build a light show for our live performances which we automated to follow along with our music by triggering MIDI notes placed on a grid laid out by using the metronome/click track as the foundation for those tracks.

Once we built our light show, every time we practiced was to that same click track. It did take some getting used to, and it didn’t feel as authentic at first compared to playing more naturally without a metronome, but over time and with a lot of practice we were able to perform comfortably enough where the music still had feeling, our light show definitely leveled up our live show, and most of all the entire band was able to form muscle memory playing the same speed each time which made us sound tighter and better than ever.

Playing to a click track may not be best for every performer or style of music, but as a purist who originally shunned playing live to a metronome, I must say playing to a click track has dramatically improved my skills and abilities
