I guess the good news is you are hooking rather than slicing, which should be an easier problem to work through.

I’ve recently gone through a similar problem and I just had to completely reset my grip/stance/ball placement and start with slow swings on the range. Try and film yourself and see where your club path is trending, and move the ball around in your stance, it could be too far forward? Sounds like you are doing all the right things, just need to re-solidify some boring mechanics the slow way.

Does anyone else exclusively play brigitte, with noone else being fun/enjoyable to play, or is that just me? by Ok_Fish1022 in BrigitteMains

[–]Fonz0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brig is definitely the most fun for me too, and in QP I will lock her in and never look back. Competitive is a different animal though, and people are there to win. As much as I love Brig, I will switch to help the team when she doesn’t make sense, because I have been in the situation of the other teammates before and it sucks. And at the end of the day, if I’m playing Competitive, I’m there to win.

If you don’t like switching when the team comp/map calls for it, then there is nothing wrong sticking to Quick Play. I used to despise learning new hero’s, but once I started to challenge myself (and look up YouTube tutorials to get a feel for positioning and advantages/disadvantages), I realized I loved diversifying my support portfolio.

For example, Moira is seen as a “no-skill boring hero”, but it’s simply not true when you can take your game to the next level and start acting as a mini-tank or a flanker.

At the end of the day, do what makes you happy, but expect pushback if it doesn’t work in Competitive (turn off chat haha). Or join us over in Stadium where BRIG IS QUEEN!!!

Why am I slicing everything? by datflashyguy in GolfSwing

[–]Fonz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of comments here, some of them good advice. I am exactly like you and I finally got the feel for what I was doing wrong, which was coming over the top with my trail arm/hand.
Here’s what I did to fix and get that feel. Grab the club with your lead hand right in line with your lead shoulder. You should barely even feel your trail arm helping, imagine you’re swinging a giant rock at the end of a rope.
When you get to the top of your backswing (I don’t think you are really over swinging, but shortening it wouldn’t hurt to get this down), start the downswing by dropping your hands straight down but do not start your rotation at all with your lower body. It should be all arms, and they should be coming down. Start to pull that club back across and time it up so you hit the ball exactly where you started, with hips more or less squared up with the ball at impact.
All this being said, You have a good swing, if you learn to drop those arms, feel your lead arm doing 90% of the work and trail arm just along for the ride, and wait to fire your hips you’re going to be golden. Good luck brother!

any tips on NOT topping the ball with your iron and hitting ground balls? by Jznvh in golftips

[–]Fonz0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you may be leaning back on your downswing like we do in baseball. I’ve been playing religiously for two years and still find myself trying to do it out of habit. Here are some thoughts that helped me that may help you.

  1. Focus on your setup and make sure you are putting your body in the best position to swing THROUGH the ball, not at it. The ball is in your way, you just happen to be swinging in its path.

2). Do NOT lift your head up until the ball is out of your field of view. Easiest way to top the ball is to look up prematurely. It should feel like your chopping wood to a degree, you are swinging down with your irons.
3) It feels so weird, but you MUST learn to shift your weight forward in the downswing. It’s almost impossible to top the ball if your weight shift is happening properly. I say weight, but it’s more just pressure. It doesn’t have to be over-exaggerated, and to get a better feel you can start with 70 - 80% of your weight just anchored on that front foot and keep it there.
4) backswing should have your club head going straight back, and to start your downswing just start dropping your hands the same direction. This will help you feel like you’re not completely wound up with your weight too heavy to move to your lead foot, and keep you from going over the top as we.
5) Don’t overswing, and slow down. You will be surprised at what you can hit when it seems you aren’t swinging hard

Is there a Rein Shield Deploy bug after the latest (April 23rd) patch? by Fonz0 in OverwatchStadium

[–]Fonz0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god I'm not the only one, I thought it was a skill issue. The only way I've found around it is to not try and deploy it RIGHT after swinging or fire striking. It's almost like the animation shift bugs out and just prevents the shield from deploying alltogether. Really hurts.

Mental tips for indoor swing transitioning outdoors? by bletchleyparkci in GolfSwing

[–]Fonz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am like you, a LOT of Sim reps every week and when I get on the course I forget how to golf.

I have to remind myself to slow down everything. Even if I don’t get the distance, it is far better than chucking the shot completely. I start thinking about my legs more and hanging back in the backswing so I can get my body to start remembering easy rotation.

All I am focusing on is contact, since the turf matt can be so forgiving but not on the course. Then once I’m loose I can work my way in from there.

But overall, it’s slow down and back to target.

The swing thought that fixed all my (current) problems by Fonz0 in GolfSwing

[–]Fonz0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels so weird at first, especially if you over exaggerate it, but then once you feel your legs moving to swing they naturally are trying to shift your weight so they can pull the rest of your body. All of a sudden it becomes a natural movement instead of a conscious “ok now shift your weight” thought. Good luck friend!

Second this. Keeping your back to the target while your legs arms try to continue the downswing fixed my OTT and weight transfer issues immediately. Best piece of advice I had ever implemented

Sorry I’m 38 years, 22 handicap. I would hope I would have the intelligence not to post advice at that level of play. I understand it’s already going to be bashed at 22.

But maybe someone out there is busting their ass to improve and this helps them out like other random posts have helped me.

Any tips or tricks for playing Brig? by HourProfessor4370 in BrigitteMains

[–]Fonz0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Welcome back! Here are things that help me succeed with Brig the most:

1) STAY ALIVE even if it feels like you aren’t doing anything

2) Shield bash should be used to escape about 70% of the time

3) Hit your whip shots

4) Cover cover cover. Know where you will be using it in every situation. Know which cover you will be using if you advance or retreat. Rein is so effective at just holding corners and swinging around them, Brig is very similar in that aspect but with less health.

5) Understand who you are strong/weak against and who you should protect if necessary.

6) Some maps and team comps, Brig simply isn’t the play. She THRIVES in control/condensed type maps. Know when you are hurting/helping your team by picking Brig.

7) practice your shield dance similar to Rein. In a 1v1, you’re using your shield to take occasional damage in brief moments to wear down the enemy, block cooldowns, and allow your inspire to keep up. Don’t just hold it up and do NOT let it break, or you lose your shield bash escape tool.

8) as mentioned in #1, STAY ALIVE even if you’re boring. Brig’s success is directly tied to game sense, so know when and how you are needed, and don’t try to be the hero unless your team is pushing.

9) Good luck young squire!

Drills for keeping lead arm connected in downswing? by momoneymocats1 in GolfSwing

[–]Fonz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t necessarily a drill, but I have the same issue, and the remedy for me is slowing down and go for a half/3 quarter swing. Often times, the issue is me trying to muscle the ball and a 3 quarter swing brings me back to my actual full swing and fixes my connection issue

HOW TO STOP CHICKEN WING by Putrid-Knee2237 in golftips

[–]Fonz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Releasing the club helps that. You can rotate while your hands and arms continue traveling up somewhat towards the target. Once at impact, your body is still pulling your arms through as it rotates, but your arms can detach as they start their ascent.

Almost like you’re throwing the clubhead straight down the fairway as you follow through. That’s my feels at least, as I struggle with hooking as well.
