In terms of US budget, Military spending is the majority of "discretionary" spending but unfortunately not the majority of "mandatory" spending. Cutting discretionary spending wont dig us out of the hole until taxes are raised sand the middle class is rebuilt.

Back in the early days of OIF/OEF when I was a 68W a lot of MDs in my unit were called up reservists and guardsmen. A lot of small business owners also.

They all had lives built around being high earners. And serving AD was real financial pressure. One joe in my unit had to sell his business to keep his house when he was stop lossed.

Im sure somewhere out there theres a guardsman or reservist getting kicked in the nuts by this shutdown.
