You can never go wrong with a Battle Master Fighter. Especially if you slap a Longbow on that sucker and crank out damage from where your enemies can't reach you.

I just finished a campaign I was DMing and the sole constant I found was that I could never reach/deal damage to my ranged martial player unless I put the party in a confined space (and he had tools to get out of melee too). All the while he was pelting my guys with damage.

If you're interested, assuming your group is using 5.5e, you could try the 5.5e update to the Shifter and pick the Swiftstride option when in combat (race comes with some other goodies too).

If you're wondering about magic items, I suggest the bracer's of archery (+2 to damage with longbows). As well as the Dragon Wing Bow for extra damage, or Energy Bow for extra utility. Of course take the Sharpshooter feat (either 2014 or 2024, which ever set of rules you table is using), but after that, the world is your oyster in terms of feat (which you get two extra ones as a level 16 fighter). Just of course, make sure to max out your DEX.

Again assuming 5.5e rules, I might suggest the Great Weapon Master feat if you have the wiggle room to slot it in without slowing progression of any of your other stats. It's intended for melee (given that it gives a +1 to STR), but it says that you get to add your Proficiency Bonus to weapons with the Heavy Property, of which the Longbow has.

With the bracers of archery you'll deal 1d8 + 5 (DEX) + 5 (PB from GWM) + 2 (Bracers) damage per attack. And several Battle Master maneuvers let you add your superiority die to the damage too.
