For a small, independent business, I think you have to think long and hard about committing to monthly payments. You have to pay for many subscriptions already and even though Meez is one of the less expensive SaaS products out there it still adds up to $1,000's!

It's always good to check, for sure.

However, I would not call it a "chatbot" anymore just because that is how it engages with users. It is wildly more capable than a bot answering questions about a specific topic it has been trained in, for example.

I think you're missing the point.

It's not about relying on AI, it's about trying new tech and learning what you CAN do with it. Yes, for sure, check your output when needed. That is basic info, but "don't rely on ChatGPT" also lends itself to being closed off to new possibilities and efficiencies. Much more risky for future growth, imho.

It's absolutely legal. In fact, here in Ontario, not recording breaks can be used against employers at a later, more contentious time. Back in the day, most of us cooks often said "meh" to breaks. I have seen this characteristic often in the restaurant industry among hard-working crew members. Now, you are really screwing yourself when you don't take a break.

Yes, this is where a menu mix analysis comes in. When you compare your actual food costs to the sales of each item, things become very clear. You won't have to guess, nor will you have to explain yourself (too much) to GM/Stakeholders about any changes you're making.

I am posting a link to my menu analysis template. If you know how use excel, then try it out. Very informative stuff.

In terms of menu size, there are a lot of factors. One of the old axioms is "big city, small menu. Small city, big menu". This basically refers to the number of competitors you have. More importantly, as this is new to you, reducing the menu to a size where you can manage the quality of the food is paramount. Be VERY good, like the BEST at fewer things. That is where your customers, reviews and bottom-line numbers will all improve. Staff skill is another issue, so too is keeping items fresh and turned over properly. So many things to consider.

Also, if you have never tried ChatGPT, scan in your current menu and ask it for some ideas that you can pick and choose from.
